sz7,75 Felicita Eustace (1927-2016) Cochiti Pueblo Sterling geschnitzter Türkis- und Korallenring, 8 Gramm. Felicita Eustace Felicita wurde 1927 geboren und wuchs in Cochiti Pueblo auf. Von ihren Eltern lernte sie, traditionelle Töpferwaren und Geschichtenerzähler herzustellen. Nach ihrer Heirat während der Jahre des Zweiten Weltkriegs zog sie in das Haus ihres Mannes Ben in Zuni. Ben brachte ihr einige Grundlagen der Schmuckherstellung bei. Sie verkaufte ihren ersten Ring an den legendären Zuni-Händler CG Wallace. Im Laufe der Jahre wurde sie selbst zu einer erfolgreichen Juwelierin und entwickelte gleichzeitig eine große Fangemeinde für ihre Töpferwaren und Geschichtenerzähler. „Es gibt immer mehr Aufträge für meine Tonarbeiten, als Zeit dafür bleibt“, sagte sie. Die Eustaces zeigen großen Respekt vor den Materialien und altbewährten Prozessen ihrer Kunst. Felicita macht ihre Geschichtenerzähler immer noch auf die traditionelle Art und Weise. Mary unfortunately passed away in 1993. They both made jewelry since the 1940’s and Lee has said that they sold to wonderful traders like C.G. Wallace, R. L. Wallace, Joe Tanner and Dude Kirk. They also sold beautiful jewelry to Don and Nita Hoel over the years.Lee was born in 1929 and Mary in 1933. Lee and Mary married in 1949 and started making jewelry together shortly after. Greg Schaaf stated in his book “American indian Jewelry: 1200 Artist Biographies” that “they were one of the best husband-wife teams in the history of Zuni jewelry”. Lee did most of the silver work while Mary was the stone cutter, which she learned to do from Lee’s mother, Lula. She is known for her master stone cutting skills which are very unusual because of the rounded edges on the stones. They both then set the stones. They are very well know for their interesting cluster work but they also did other types of work using beautiful high quality stones. sz8 Ben Nighthorse Campbell (Cheyenne, b. 1933) Sterling and turquoise ring<br><br>Ben Nighthorse Campbell was born to a poor family in Auburn, California in 1933.<br>He grew up to be a Northern Cheyenne chief, Korean War veteran, judo wrestler,<br>U.S. Olympian, jewelry designer and the first Native American serving in the<br>U.S. Senate.<br><br>Campbell dropped out of high school and joined the air force, serving in the<br>Korean War. While serving in the military he received his GED high school<br>diploma. He studied the martial arts and became a judo wrestler. He captained<br>the judo team in the 1964 Olympics in Tokyo. After returning to the States he<br>graduated from San Diego State University with a degree in physical education<br>and fine arts. He also attended Meiji University in Tokyo and received more than<br>200 awards for his jewelry designs.<br><br>Campbell began his political career in 1982 becoming a state legislator in the<br>state of Colorado. In 1987 he moved to the U.S. House of Representatives and<br>then in 1992 became a senator from Colorado. He was reelected in 1998.<br><br>Senator Campbell serves as a member of the Appropriations Committee, Energy and<br>Natural Resources Committee, Veteran’s Affairs Committee and the Indian Affairs<br>Committee. He also chairs the Helsinki Commission. He was the first Native<br>American ever to chair the Indian Affairs Committee. He has worked to pass<br>legislation settling Native American water rights and protecting Colorado’s<br>wilderness areas. Ernest Begay Navajo Übergroßer türkisfarbener Cluster-Ring. Größter und bester Ring aller Zeiten mit natürlichem Nevada-Türkis höchster Qualität. Typischerweise liegt ein großer Ring im Bereich von 30 Gramm, dies entspricht 110,5 Gramm Größe 8, ein zeitgenössischer Ring von einem bekannten und angesehenen Kunsthandwerker ohne Beschädigung oder erkennbare Abnutzung. 3" x 4" Fläche. Der Navajo-Künstler Ernest R. Begay Sr. wurde in Kayenta - Chilchinbeto, AZ geboren und wuchs dort auf. 1975–76 besuchte Ernest einen Silberschmiedekurs an der Monument Valley High School. „Wir haben im Unterricht Kupfer verwendet, aber da habe ich angefangen. Ich nahm an dem Kurs teil, weil er Spaß machte und einfach zu machen schien. Ich habe meinem Schwager und seinem Vater bei der Schmuckherstellung zugeschaut, sie gaben mir Altsilber zum Arbeiten“, erinnert sich Ernest. Ernests Karriere in der Schmuckherstellung kam erst richtig in Schwung, als er einige ziemlich herausragende Stücke zur Navajo Nation Fair und zum Gallup Intertribal Indian Ceremonial einreichte. Hier erhielt er zahlreiche Auszeichnungen und Auszeichnungen, die ihm den Beginn seiner Karriere als Schmuckkünstler erleichterten. Im Laufe der Jahre hat sich Ernest langsam einen Ruf für Korallen- und Türkis-Clusterarbeiten auf schwerem Silber mit tiefen, individuell gestalteten Stempelarbeiten aufgebaut. Charles Johnson Charles wurde im Alter von etwa 15 Jahren von seinen Eltern im Silberschmieden unterrichtet und lernte im Sommer selbstständig weiter. Seine Eltern sind lebenslang Silberschmied, die Familie seiner Mutter besteht aus 5 Generationen und die Familie seines Vaters aus 2 Generationen. Charles arbeitet seit seinem 20. Lebensjahr hauptberuflich als Silberschmied. Im Alter von 13 Jahren begann er einige Jahre lang mit der Intarsienarbeit und lernte dabei beides. Charles begann mit traditionellem Navajo-Schmuck, wechselte dann zu zeitgenössischem Navajo-Schmuck und dann zum Western Stil mit Ausschnitten im Wirbeldesign. Der Großteil seines Schmucks besteht aus ausgeschnittenen Überzügen auf Armbändern und Schnallen mit Petroglyphen-Motiven (Anasazi-Zeichnungen). Er mag auch Armbandüberzüge im Western-Stil und Wirbeldesign. Charles' Clans sind Ashii (Salt People) und Todich'ii'nii (Bitter Water Clan).
