6 3/8" Armband aus Sterlingsilber, Türkis und Koralle von Carmelita und Dan Simplicio, 8 mm breit.Der Zuni-Silberschmied Dan Simplicio (1917-1969) lernte die Kunst der Schmuckherstellung von seinem Onkel Juan DeDios, einem von ihnen der früheste Zuni-Silberschmied. Der Navajo-Silberschmied Gary Reeves wurde 1962 in Gallup, New Mexico, geboren und starb im Juli 2014. Er begann 1974 mit der Silberverarbeitung. Circa mid 20th century. <br><br>Zuni Pueblo artist Horace Iule learned silversmithing from his father and eventually became an expert of the casting method. He was one of the first from Zuni Pueblo to create the Knifewing God in silver. Horace began working as a silversmith in the 1930s after returning from school in Phoenix where he had studied blacksmithing.<br><br>Horace Iule (1901-1978) Aiule was a third-generation silversmith. His grandfather, a man known as Sneezing Man, was identified by John Adair in his book The Navajo and Pueblo Silversmiths as one of the first silversmiths at Zuni Pueblo.<br><br>Horace Iule also taught jewelry making at Zuni Day School, teaching and influencing a whole generation of Zuni smiths. Unterwegs wurde meine Arbeit von meinem Vater kritisiert und ich war ständig bestrebt, meine Designs und Herstellungsprozesse weiterzuentwickeln. Er betonte die Qualität des Designs und der Konstruktion und stellte sicher, dass jeder Aspekt eines Stücks „fertig“ aussah und keine Abstriche gemacht wurden. Zusammen mit allem, was ich im Atelier meines Vaters gelernt habe, erhielt ich einen Bachelor of Arts von der Georgetown University in Studio Arts mit Schwerpunkt auf digitaler Kunst und Druckgrafik. Nach meinem Abschluss besuchte ich das Intensive Bench Jeweler Program der Revere Academy of Jewelry Arts in San Francisco. Jede dieser Bildungserfahrungen fügte meiner Arbeit einen bestimmten technischen oder visuellen Aspekt hinzu und ermutigte mich, weiterhin alle Möglichkeiten zu erkunden, wie ich meine Designs verbessern könnte. Durch Fertigung, Metallstanzen und etwas Guss erforsche ich, wie Licht und Reflexion mit den von mir verwendeten Materialien interagieren. Ich habe festgestellt, dass poliertes Silber die Farben und das Licht der Welt um sich herum aufnimmt und durch die Verwendung von Oberflächentexturen ein dynamisches Lichtspiel auf der Oberfläche meiner Designs entsteht. Ich verfeinere meine Arbeit zusätzlich durch die Verwendung von Halbedelsteinen (Achate, Quarz, Jade usw.). Eine der wichtigsten Eigenschaften bei meiner Steinauswahl ist jedoch oft die Lichtdurchlässigkeit. Ich habe festgestellt, dass, wenn man Licht durch einen Stein scheinen lässt, insgesamt ein reicher und warmer Effekt im Gesamtdesign entsteht. Neben meinen jährlichen Ausstellungen, auf denen ich meine Designs verkaufe, habe ich es mir auch zum Ziel gesetzt, die Öffentlichkeit über meine Arbeit zu informieren. Als ich im Atelier meines Vaters aufgewachsen bin, habe ich immer gesehen, wie viel von sich selbst er in seine Entwürfe steckte und wie sehr er manchmal ungläubig war, wie viel Arbeit in seine Stücke gesteckt wurde. Als ich in das Geschäft einstieg, stellte ich fest, dass dies ähnlich ist, da die breite Öffentlichkeit nur das fertige Stück sieht. Aus diesem Grund haben wir es uns zum Ziel gesetzt, durch persönliche Vorführungen und selbst produzierte Video-Minidokumentationen das Können, die Zeit und die Leidenschaft zu zeigen, die in jedem Design stecken. Ich bin ständig bestrebt, meine Arbeit weiterzuentwickeln und jedes Design an die hohen Standards zu halten, die mein Vater vor 50 Jahren festgelegt hat, als er Chavez Studio gründete. Alle Edelmetalle werden geprüft und garantiert. Jeder als Silber oder Sterling bezeichnete Schmuck der amerikanischen Ureinwohner besteht garantiert zu mindestens 90 % (Münz-)Silber und möglicherweise zu einem höheren Gehalt. Chavez I began my journey as an artist learning to craft jewelry from my father, Richard I Chavez, a renowned lapidary artist. I was not given exact direction as to what to make but was only given the tools and instruction on how to use them. Along the way my work would be critiqued by my father and I would continually strive to evolve my designs and fabrication processes. He stressed the quality of the design and construction making sure that every aspect of a piece looked “finished” and no corners were cut.Along with all that I learned in my father’s studio, I would receive a Bachelor of Arts from Georgetown University in Studio Arts with a focus in Digital Art and Printmaking. Each of these educational experiences added a particular technical or visual aspect to my work and would encourage me to continue to explore all the ways I could enhance my designs.My current work focuses on the reflective nature of polished silver. Though fabrication, metal stamping, and some casting, I explore how light and reflection interacts with the materials I utilize. I’ve found that polished silver takes in the colors and the light of the world around, and through the use of surface texture a dynamic play of light is created across the surface of my designs. I further enhance my work thought the use of semi-precious stones (agates, quartzs, jades, etc.). However one of the most important qualities in my selection of stones is often translucency. I’ve found that by allowing light to shine though a stone an overall rich and warm effect is created in the overall design.Along with my yearly schedule of shows where I sell my designs, I’ve also made it a point to educate the public about my work. Growing up in my father’s studio, I always saw just how much of himself he put into his designs and how sometimes he was met with disbelief as to how much work was put into his pieces. I found this to be a similar case when I entered the business, as the general public only sees the finished piece. For that reason, though in person demonstrations and self-produced video mini-documentaries, we’ve made it a point to show the skill, time, and passion that goes into every design. I continually strive to evolve my work and hold every design to the exacting standards that my father established when he created Chavez Studio 50 years ago.
