6.5" James Little Navajo modernist sterling silver turquoise cuff bracelet. Tested and guaranteed solid sterling silver, with weight and measurements in pictures, circa 70's-80's.James Little (b. 1947) is a master Navajo (Diné) jeweler celebrated for his innovative fusion of traditional Navajo symbolism with sleek, contemporary design. Raised in a remote region of the Navajo Nation in northeastern Arizona, Little grew up in a traditional family setting, herding sheep and observing his mother’s intricate rug weaving and his uncle’s silverwork—formative experiences that would deeply influence his artistic path.Born with a severe hearing impairment, Little faced challenges in communication and formal education. However, after undergoing a series of ear operations in his late teens, he gained partial hearing and pursued his passion for silversmithing. He studied under the legendary Kenneth Begay at the Navajo Community College in Many Farms, Arizona, where he developed the foundational skills and artistic discipline that would define his career.Under Begay’s mentorship, James Little refined a distinctive style that blends traditional Navajo motifs—such as Yei figures and woven patterns—with minimalist and modern forms. His jewelry is known for its clean lines, symbolic depth, and impeccable craftsmanship. Whether working in sterling silver or incorporating high-grade stones, Little’s pieces reflect both cultural heritage and refined artistry. In 1979, Little was prominently featured in Arizona Highways magazine’s special Collector’s Edition, “The New Look in Indian Jewelry,” which spotlighted the emergence of contemporary Native American jewelry. This recognition solidified his place among the leading Native American jewelers of the Southwest.Today, James Little is recognized as one of the foremost Native American silversmiths, with work featured in galleries, museum collections, and private collections worldwide. His legacy is built on a foundation of cultural pride, technical excellence, and timeless design—making his jewelry a significant part of the ongoing evolution of Navajo art.

Ike Wilson Navajo (1900-1942) 1930's vintage sterling silver ashtray thunderbird accents. Weight and measurements in pictures. Tested and guaranteed solid sterling silver with no issues. Apparently unmarked, circa second quarter of the 20th century. Ike Wilson (1900-1942) hallmark signature of bow and arrow symbol.Diné silversmith Ike Wilson worked for many years for the Kelsey Trading Company at Zuni. He did silverwork for many of the Zuni lapidary artists including Ida Vacit Poblano. He often collaborated with his wife, Katherine Wilson.Navajo Nation artist Ike Wilson (1900-1942) would sign his creations with his bow and arrow hallmark. There has been some confusion in the past about the hallmark of Ike Wilson (1901-1942). It seems that sometimes his work was attributed to Austin Wilson. Both men were born in the same year and in a similar area of the reservation and both men worked at times for trader C. G. Wallace and the Kelsey Trading Company. Ike Wilson’s work is signed with a bow and arrow. After his death in 1942, his wife Katherine Wilson (1907-1985) continued to use his hallmark. The bow and arrow hallmark was initially attributed to Ike’s contemporary, Austin Wilson, but the corrected attribution was published in Messier, 2014.

He was born at Crystal, NM, the son of Slender Maker of Silver who had learned silverwork from Atsidi Chon, one of the first Navajo silversmiths. He apprenticed with his father until the elder’s failing eyesight forced him to stop working. Peshlakai worked briefly at Maisels Indian Trading Post in Albuquerque before moving on to temporary jobs such as cowboying and acting. Returning to silversmithing, he opened a shop on Olvera Street in Los Angeles where he worked for nearly 20 years. His brother, Frank, worked for him there for several years. In 1950 Peshlakai had a shop at Hotel Escalante in Cedar City, UT. After that time his jewelry production decreased. Peshalakai’s work is widely collected because of his innovative designs and use of high quality stones.
