  • 15th/16th century vellum antiphonal leaf 2 - Estate Fresh Austin

15th/16th century vellum antiphonal leaf 2

    1 en stock

15th/16th century Vellum Antiphonal leaf. This is on Vellum/hide. There are some tears but it's stable in the frame. For some weird reason there is clear tape on the back of the glass and a little on the front, possibly they taped the two panes together and over time the tape degraded a little, still it displays well. Slightly illuminated in the picture shown. 22.5" x 16" framed. The origins of liturgical music traditionally date back to St. Gregory the Great (d. 604), who was inspired by the Holy Dove to record the principles of 'Gregorian' chant. The Gradual contained the musical parts of the Missal and was sung from the steps (gradus) of the altar. The Antiphoner contained the musical sections of the Breviary. These terms have become interchangeable in modern times. Because of their size and complexity, these manuscripts were still being handmade in the traditional way for centuries after the introduction of printing. They were boldly hand-written and illuminated on large sheets of sturdy vellum so that the entire choir could read from one book.

  • c1968 Apollo 8 Signed Charles Schultz Snoopy Astronaut poster - Estate Fresh Austin

c1968 Apollo 8 Signed Charles Schultz Snoopy Astronaut poster

    1 en stock

1960's Apollo Signed Charles Schultz Snoopy Astronaut poster. Charles Schulz was<br>a huge fan of the American Space Program and Snoopy was a NASA mascot for the<br>space program and was seen on uniform patches at NASA. Guaranteed 100% sure on<br>my life 100% authentic. By inheritance it's from the estate listed below, Debbie<br>is Rep Jerry L. Pettis' daughter Deborah mentioned below. Measures 22" x 16", I<br>have some other related items from the same estate that do help with the<br>provenance but I'm offering them separately as they are difficult to photograph<br>together and I cannot guess whether the potential buyer would be interested<br>enough in the other items. Some would, some won't. Plus I have to find said<br>items. Minor wear but overall clean with no significant issues. There were<br>apollo 8 and 11 items in this estate including signed presidential and signed<br>astronaut items. I'm actually not 100% sure which Apollo mission this poster is<br>from because evidently it's an extremely uncommon poster. It seems there was a<br>snoopy poster for every mission but you won't find them signed by Charles<br>Schultz, the highest result I found was an Apollo 1 poster the same size sold<br>for $3500 in 2018, unsigned.<br><br>SAN BERNARDINO, Calif., Feb. 14 (AP)—Representative Jerry L. Pettis was killed<br>today when a private plane he was piloting crashed, the Air Force reported. He<br>was 58 years old.<br><br>Rose Camaria, the Congressman's administrative assistant, said the plane was<br>down near Beaumont, Calif., and the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department<br>said it had found the wreckage of a plane near that city.<br><br>Mr. Pettis is survived by, his, widow, the former Shirley McCumber; a son, Peter<br>Dwight, and two daughters, Yvonne and Deborah.

15th/16th century Vellum Antiphonal leaf. This is on Vellum/hide. There are some<br>tears but it's stable in the frame. For some weird reason there is clear tape on<br>the back of the glass and a little on the front, possibly they taped the two<br>panes together and over time the tape degraded a little, still it displays well.<br>Slightly illuminated in the picture shown. 22.5" x 16" framed.<br><br>The origins of liturgical music traditionally date back to St. Gregory the Great<br>(d. 604), who was inspired by the Holy Dove to record the principles of<br>'Gregorian' chant. The Gradual contained the musical parts of the Missal and was<br>sung from the steps (gradus) of the altar. The Antiphoner contained the musical<br>sections of the Breviary. These terms have become interchangeable in modern<br>times. Because of their size and complexity, these manuscripts were still being<br>handmade in the traditional way for centuries after the introduction of<br>printing. They were boldly hand-written and illuminated on large sheets of<br>sturdy vellum so that the entire choir could read from one book.

THE JUDD COMPANY WALLINGFORD, CN 1830 - 1954 The Judd ancestry can be traced back to Deacon Thomas Judd who came from England and settled in Cambridge, MA in 1633/4. Deacon Morton Judd, born in 1808, learned his trade in a brass foundry and then, established his own business in 1830. In 1833, Morton's brother, Oliver S., joined the company as partner and the name was changed to M & O.S. Judd. In 1853, Morton's eldest son, Albert, replaced Oliver S. as the business partner. And, the company's name was changed to M. Judd & Sons. In 1863, Albert purchased the business and sold it back to his uncle, Oliver S. In 1865, Morton and Albert formed their own company to manufacture "Builder's Hardware" in New Haven, CN. In 1870, the business evolved to the Judd Manufacturing Company when Edward, Oliver S.'s brother, became President. In 1877, Morton and his three sons, Albert, Hubert L. & Edward, erected a plant in Wallingford, CN where they began a busness to manufacture Stationers' and Druggists' hardware. It was during this time that the company became well known for their still and mechanical banks. (The first mechanical bank had been introduced in 1869. This bank was known as "Hall's Excelsior" made by J.& E. Stevens.) Judd banks were usually finished in a brown or maroon lacquer and were washed in a green coloring. Not until the early 1910's, did the company start making "Cast Iron " decorative products, such as, Doorstops, Bookends, Doorknockers, Inkwells. The Judd Company was sold to the Stanley Works Company in1954. isshelf

Hand written retailers name Wright, Tyndale &<br>Van Roden Philadelphia on back of each. No damage, wear, or restorations to any.<br><br>Wright, Tyndale & Van Roden Philadelphia was a very high end store which<br>specialized in selling porcelain during the approximate period 1880 until 1930<br>in Philadelphia. It sold Minton historical scene plates as well as many other<br>Minton, Limoges and comparable quality makers of porcelain. Later, similar<br>stores were Caldwells and Bailey Banks. Its predecessor store had Tyndale in the<br>name.<br><br>The term "Dresden porcelain" refers more to an artistic movement than a<br>particular line of figurines or dinnerware. Several decorating studios emerged<br>in this Saxony capital in response to the rise of "Romanticism" during the 19th<br>century. Dresden was an important center of this artistic, cultural and<br>intellectual movement, which attracted painters, sculptors, poets, philosophers<br>and porcelain decorators alike. In 1883, in response to the exciting<br>developments happening all around them, four prominent ceramic decorators<br>registered the famous blue crown Dresden mark, and the widely popular "Dresden<br>style" was born.

Tyrus Raymond Cobb Born: December 18, 1886 Georgia Died: July 17, 1961 (aged 74) Atlanta Georgia Awards And Honors: Baseball Hall of Fame (1936) Most Valuable Player (1911) Baseball Hall of Fame (inducted 1936. Triple Crown 1x MVP 12x batting champion Ty Cobb, in full Tyrus Raymond Cobb, byname the Georgia Peach, (born December 18, 1886, Narrows, Georgia, U.S.—died July 17, 1961, Atlanta, Georgia), professional baseball player, considered one of the greatest offensive players in baseball history and generally regarded as the fiercest competitor in the game. Cobb took to baseball early in his life: by age 14 he was playing alongside adults on the local baseball team in Royston, Georgia. In 1904 he joined a semiprofessional team in Anniston, Alabama, and the following year he signed with the minor league Augusta (Georgia) Tourists. While playing with the Tourists, Cobb had his personal life jolted by an unusual tragedy: on August 8, 1905, his mother shot and killed his father, who was atop the family’s porch roof in an attempt to catch her being unfaithful and whom she purportedly mistook for a burglar. That event overshadowed his promotion to the Detroit Tigers later that month. His combative reaction to his subsequent rookie hazing created animosity between Cobb and his teammates that lasted for years, which greatly helped to establish the antagonistic public persona that would become one of Cobb’s hallmarks. He spent 22 seasons as an outfielder with the Tigers (1905–26) and also managed the team from 1921 through 1926. Cobb led the team to three consecutive American League (AL) pennants (1907–09), but the Tigers lost all three World Series in which he appeared. A member of the Philadelphia Athletics when he retired in 1928, Cobb hit .323 in his last season, at age 41. He batted left-handed and threw right-handed, stood about 6 feet 1 inch (1.9 metres), and weighed 175 pounds (79.4 kg). During his 24-season career in the AL, Cobb established numerous batting records. His career hits record of 4,189 lasted until it was broken by Pete Rose in 1985. He also set the runs-scored mark of 2,246, a total that was not surpassed until 2001 by Rickey Henderson. Cobb’s total of 892 stolen bases was surpassed in 1979 by Lou Brock. Finally, Cobb’s lifetime batting average of .366 was unequaled through the 20th century. (It should be noted that there is disagreement among sports statisticians as to the exact figure for Cobb’s batting statistics.) Cobb led the AL in batting 12 times. Three times his batting average topped .400 (1911, .420; 1912, .409; and 1922, .401), and for 23 straight years he batted at least .300. In the first election to the Baseball Hall of Fame, in 1936, Cobb received the most votes. He invested his baseball earnings shrewdly and amassed a comfortable fortune. Cobb’s historic baseball accomplishments are occasionally overshadowed by his notorious personality. Known for sharpening his spikes in order to cause the most damage to opponents’ legs when sliding, he was one of the most aggressive players in baseball history, and his short temper led to numerous on-field scuffles (he even attacked a heckling fan in the stands on one occasion). His autobiography, My Life in Baseball, ghostwritten by sportswriter Al Stump, was published in 1961. Stump amended the record in 1994 with Cobb: A Biography, which presents a far more honest view of the great player. Cobb’s racism, misogyny, and volatile and violent personality are covered in Stump’s second book, which was the basis of a 1994 film, Cobb.

Tomasita Montoya(1899-1978) San Juan Pueblo pottery vessel 5" wide x 3.75" tall, no damage or restorations, very minor exterior wear. Comes with tag from when it was last purchased. Tomasita Montoya was one of the original 7 San Juan potters who revived the art form in the 1930’s. Her daughters Rosita de Herrera and Dominguita Herrera learned to make pottery from her. The Pueblo had a wonderful history of pottery making, but by about 1890 there were no potters left. In 1930 Regina Cata organized a pottery study group at San Juan Pueblo with the intent of revitalizing pottery production. The group studied ancient potsherds of wares made at San Juan in earlier times and selected Potsuwi‘i Incised Ware (1450-1500) as a basis for a contemporary pottery type. By the late 1930s, further development resulted in deeply-carved polychrome wares, and incised wares, both of which are still being produced today. Tomasita was especially known for her incised red ware jars, bowls, and vases. The decoration on these vessels was primarily fine line geometric hatching. On occasion she utilized micaceous clay, adding some texture and sparkle to the geometric elements. Tomasita also made deeply carved polychrome pieces which included designs of clouds, kiva steps, and plants.

Albert & Josephine Vigil worked together on their pottery. They began making pottery in 1945. Josephine made the pottery and Albert painted the designs. Albert Vigil (1927-2009) was a nephew of Maria Martinez. He was also the son of noted San Ildefonso painter Romando Vigil, one of the members of the San Ildefonso School of watercolor artists and also know for his work with Walt Disney Studios. Josephine Cordova Vigil (1927-2001) was from Taos Pueblo and she moved to San Ildefonso when she married Albert. Josephine learned pottery making by watching her aunts-in-law Maria Martinez, and Maria’s sister Clara Montoya, who are considered San Ildefonso Pottery Matriarchs. Maria Martinez taught Josephine how to coil-shape the clay and Clara Montoya taught her how to polish the pottery before it was designed or painted. They began making pottery in 1945. Josephine and Albert used the traditional methods of hand-coil, polishing, and traditionally open fired pottery.
