Texas Ranger Chief Homer Garrison Jr(1901-1968) Signed Books lot Jake Pickle Bob Alexander Donaly Brice Joe Combs. Selling the lot shown all from the estate of Homer Garrison jr's son. All signed as shown. James Jarrell "Jake" Pickle (October 11, 1913 – June 18, 2005) was a United States Representative from the 10th congressional district of Texas from 1963 to 1995 These and other related items I'll be listing shortly are from the estate of multiple descendants of Homer Garrison Jr. GARRISON, HOMER, JR. (1901-1968). Homer Garrison, Jr., Texas Ranger chief and director of the Texas Department of Public Safety, son of Homer and Mattie (Milam) Garrison, was born in Kickapoo, Anderson County, Texas, on July 21, 1901, the eldest of nine children. After graduation from Lufkin High School he went to work in the office of his father, who was district clerk in Angelina County. Garrison received his first experience as a law officer at nineteen, when was appointed a deputy sheriff of Angelina County. In 1929 he became a state license and weight inspector for the Texas Highway Department, and he joined the Texas Highway Patrol when it was organized in 1930. When the Department of Public Safety was founded in August 1935 Garrison became the first assistant director. Among his initial duties was the task of developing a training program for DPS officers. At the request of the governor of New Mexico, he was sent to that state to help organize the New Mexico State Police. During World War II he was offered an appointment by Gen. Douglas MacArthur to reorganize and supervise the Japanese national police system for the War Department, but he declined in deference to his duties as director of the DPS and chief of the Texas Rangers. Among the many honors bestowed upon him during the nearly thirty years he served as the head of the state law-enforcement agency was the presentation of the sixth Paul Gray Hoffman Award, conferred annually by the Automotive Safety Foundation for distinguished service in highway safety. In 1963 Governor John Connally appointed Garrison director of civil defense and disaster relief for the state of Texas and chairman of the State Defense Council. The same year the governor also named him director of the Governor's Highway Safety Commission. In May 1966 he was elected chairman of the resolutions committee and a member of the steering committee of the Southern Region Highway Policy Committee of the Council of State Governments; in January 1967 he was named a member of the National Motor Vehicle Safety Advisory Council. Colonel Garrison became director of the Department of Public Safety and chief of the Texas Rangers in 1938. Under his leadership numerous major programs were developed, and the organization grew to a total of some 3,400 employees. The programs included crime control, police traffic supervision, driver licensing, vehicle inspection, safety responsibility, accident records, safety education, defense and disaster service, and police training. Garrison married Mary Nell Kilgore on June 1, 1939, and they had one son. Garrison died on May 7, 1968, and was buried in the State Cemetery, Austin. A Texas Ranger museum at Fort Fisher was named for him. BIBLIOGRAPHY: Ben Procter, "The Texas Rangers: An Overview," in The Texas Heritage, ed. Ben Procter and Archie P. Josuë Dupon (Belgian, 1864-1935) Art deco universal exposition Anvers 1930 medal 3 1/8" from side to side. Josuë Dupon | Belgian, 1864-1935 A talented and prolific sculptor whose work, which includes painting and graphics, is still far too little known. After successfully studying at the Roeselare and Antwerp Academies (1887), he received a gold medal for a monumental bronze, Samson killing the lion, in 1890. From that year on, his work appeared regularly in exhibitions at home and abroad. Although not an innovator, he worked in every genre and mastered every technique and material. He was one of the first in Belgium to carve statues in "Off White" (1893), including an exceptionally refined Diana which was bought by the Antwerp Royal Museum of Fine Arts, which also acquired his spectacular bronze Vulture defending its prey a year later. The career that the sculptor subsequently built brought him numerous important awards and an appointment as professor at the Antwerp Academy, as well as commissions for facade sculptures and monuments. Although Dupon did not play a very active part in clubs or associations, he developed into an authority who was associated with reliability and class. The installation of his life-size Camel Driver (1902) on the roof and of his two bronze bird groups at the entrance to Antwerp Zoo confirmed his reputation as a first-rate animal sculptor. The thoroughness with which he approached this specialised area from the beginning is unequalled by any other Belgian sculptor. There were few animal species that did not succeed in inspiring him, and of those that did, he was as faithful to their anatomical detail as he was capable of expressing their nature. It appears from this that Josuë Dupon was in every inch a realist whose technically faultless art, with his sense of the dramatic, his feeling for decorative complexity and his slight tendency towards idealizing, was in every way in keeping with a 19th century conception of art. To describe Dupon as the Belgian Frémiet (1834-1910) is in this light elucidating without implying anything derogatory to either of them. As a gifted specialist in depicting horses – as if we can talk of preferences in this thoroughbred animal sculptor – he created the remarkable equestrian sculpture of Pater C. Lievens in Moorslede (1930). Rather than attempting to provide an overview of his works, exhibitions and honours here, it seems more appropriate mention the telling fact that his pupils at the Antwerp Academy included leading sculptors such as A. Collin (1886-1962), W.Kreitz (1903-1982) and A. Poels (1903-1984).

[Accessed Wed Aug 7 11:36:57<br>US/Central 2002].<br><br><br>Mary Starr Barkley<br><br>was a life-long resident of Austin whose penchant for local history led her to<br>write numerous colorful books, articles, and essays about her hometown and<br>Central Texas. Known to friends and colleagues as "Mamie", she liked to refer to<br>herself as a "housewife-historian".<br><br>Barkley's roots in Austin extended back four generations. She was born in 1907<br>to James Patrick Starr and Mary Ellen Dolan Starr (Nellie), devout Irish<br>Catholics who belonged to St. Mary's Parish in Austin. Mary attended St. Mary's<br>Cathedral School until her graduation in 1923. Her close ties to the Catholic<br>Church greatly influenced both her historical research and her charitable<br>activities throughout the rest of her life.<br><br>Mary attended the University of Texas for two years and then went to work for<br>Austin National Bank where she met her future husband, Fred C. Barkley. The two<br>were married in 1930. During World War II, when Fred was in service, Mary began<br>to write fiction and essays. One of her favorite personal anecdotes concerns the<br>time in 1946 that she sent out three articles and received a check for each one.<br>"After that", she said, "I could never quit writing." She regularly sold<br>stories, essays and articles to magazines such as The Cattleman, Farm and Ranch,<br>Catholic Digest, the Houston Chronicle Sunday Magazine, and the Atlanta Journal<br>Magazine .<br><br>Mary Starr Barkley wrote predominantly about Austin and the surrounding<br>communities. She liked to set out at about nine o'clock in the morning one day<br>each week and drive to communities within a fifty mile radius of Austin. She<br>conducted a substantial amount of her research through oral interviews and<br>enjoyed talking to "old timers" who could tell her all about the history of<br>their communities. Barkley's method of history writing was to weave human<br>interest stories into traditional date-oriented narratives; she called this<br>style her "trademark". Barkley also carried a camera with her during her travels<br>and took many of the pictures that accompanied her articles.<br><br>In addition to her work as an amateur historian, Barkley was involved in several<br>organizations, many of which were affiliated with the Catholic Church. In 1950,<br>she helped organize the Seton Hospital Auxiliary to which she ultimately gave<br>over 17,000 hours of her time during a 30-year period. In 1950, Barkley also<br>helped organize the Friends of the Adoration Convent, a group that served as<br>both the auxiliary and the fundraising arm of the Austin Adoration Convent. In<br>her later years, she served as the Chair of the Travis County Historical Survey<br>Committee, an organization dedicated to the preservation of the historical<br>buildings within Travis County.<br><br>Barkley was the author of several published works including: Fifty Years of the<br>Seton Hospital (1952), O ne Hundred Years: The History of St. Mary's Cathedral<br>(1952), The History of Travis County and Austin, 1839-1899 (1963), A History of<br>Central Texas (1970), St. Mary's Church (now a Cathedral) (1972), The History of<br>St. Mary's Cathedral, 1874-1974 (1974), and numerous essays and articles<br>published in local and national periodicals. She also wrote a book on the<br>history of the Austin National Bank, and tried her hand at fiction. In addition<br>to her activities as a writer, Barkley conducted extensive genealogical research<br>about her own family and composed an unpublished family history, "A Four Staff<br>Family".<br><br>Principle organizations Barkley belonged to include: Seton Hospital Auxiliary,<br>the Travis County Historical Survey Committee, the Adoration Convent, Austin<br>National Bank, and St. Mary's Cathedral Parish.<br><br>Mary Starr Barkley succumbed to cancer in 1981.

1856 Texas Governors Elisha M. Pease/Edward Clark Signed Document. Interesting<br>document because it's signed by the Current Governor at the time Elisha Pease<br>and the Then Secretary of state and later Governor for a short time Edward<br>Clark. 12" x 16" document in 20" x 15" matting. It's loosely mounted to thick<br>framing paper and could easily be removed for re-matting. Expected toning with<br>no major issues, embossed state of Texas seal that may not show in the pics.<br><br>Clark moved to Texas in 1842 and set up a law practice.[1] He served in the<br>Texas Annexation Convention and two terms as a state representative in the Texas<br>Legislature. During the Mexican–American War he served on the staff of Major<br>General J. Pinckney Henderson and fought in the Battle of Monterrey.[2] When the<br>war ended, he served as secretary of state under Governor Elisha M. Pease and as<br>lieutenant governor serving under Governor Sam Houston.[1] When Sam Houston<br>refused to take an oath of allegiance to the Confederacy, Clark became<br>governor.[2]<br><br>Slave quarters of Edward Clark's home in Austin. He enslaved nine people.<br>Among Clark's first actions was to order the surrender of all fire arms and<br>ammunition from private merchants to the state. Furthermore, all privately owned<br>firearms were to be canvassed. Few weapons were ever turned in and most Texans<br>did not comply for fear of future confiscation.<br><br>After losing the governor's race by 124 votes to Francis Lubbock, Clark became a<br>colonel in the Texas militia during the American Civil War. In 1863 he joined<br>the Confederate States Army and was commissioned colonel of the 14th Texas<br>Infantry Regiment. He commanded the unit, as part of the Greyhound Division,<br>until being wounded in the Battle of Pleasant Hill.[1] A promotion to brigadier<br>general wasn´t confirmed by the Confederate Congress and he left the service;<br>however, in 1865 he was made a brigadier in the militia. He fled briefly to<br>Mexico at the end of the American Civil War, and returned home to Marshall,<br>Texas.[1]<br><br>Elisha Pease bio<br><br>Texas Republic<br>A native of Enfield, Connecticut, Pease moved to Mexican Texas in 1835. He soon<br>became active in the Texas independence movement and after the Texas Revolution<br>began, Pease became the secretary of the provisional government. He served as<br>the assistant secretary at the Convention of 1836 but was not an elected<br>delegate to the Convention. After independence had been won, Pease was named the<br>comptroller of public accounts in the government of the new but temporary<br>Republic of Texas.<br><br>Texas State<br>Following the annexation of Texas to the United States, Pease was elected to the<br>Texas House of Representatives in 1845 and reelected in 1847. In 1849, he ran<br>for the Texas Senate from District 11 (Brazoria and Galveston counties) but lost<br>to John B. Jones who was sworn in on November 5, 1849. Pease contested the<br>election, was declared the winner, and was sworn in four days later on November<br>9, 1849.<br><br>Pease first ran for governor in 1851 but withdrew from the race two weeks before<br>the election. He was elected in each of the next two elections, 1853 and 1855.<br>As governor, he paid off the state debt and established the financial foundation<br>that the state would later use to finance its schools and colleges.<br><br>In 1856, surveyor Jacob de Córdova of the Galveston, Houston, and Henderson<br>Railroad Company named a newly discovered river in West Texas the "Pease River"<br>after the governor.<br><br><br>The E. M. Pease Middle School is located at 201 Hunt Lane across from El Sendero<br>subdivision in the Northside Independent School District in San Antonio, Texas.<br>Civil War and aftermath<br>During the American Civil War, Pease sided with the Union. He nonetheless<br>enslaved several people; census records show ten enslaved people living and<br>laboring at Pease's Austin plantation in 1860.[2] After the war, he became a<br>leader in the state Republican Party and was appointed as the civilian governor<br>of Texas in 1867 by General Philip H. Sheridan, who was the military head of the<br>Reconstruction government. Pease's policies as governor alienated both<br>ex-Unionists and ex-Confederates and he resigned in 1869.<br><br>Elisha and his wife donated land to the City of Austin that would eventually<br>become Pease Park.<br><br>Pease died of apoplexy in Lampasas, Texas. He was buried in Oakwood Cemetery in<br>Austin, Texas.

One appears to be signed LL on the base. Selling all three with no issuesTL 1908 - 1980 Torborg Lindberg-Carlsson from Storbäck in Dorotea, Västerbotten. Torborg was born in Högland and then moved at the age of 4 to Röttanberg in Vilhelmina. Torborg found his home in Storbäck. Her creations mainly resulted in the production of smaller statuettes connected to Sami culture. The attention she attracted also led to church decorations in, among others, Ormsjö, Högland's chapel and Risbäck church. At first she carved in aspen, but after a while she switched to Al, which was the material she mainly used, she bought the wood home and let it dry, she had wood for several years lying around to dry.  She usually had a number of figures that were in production where she switched between the figures, on the tray where the figures were usually on the kitchen table where the production took place. Then the figures were painted with watercolor paint in the Southern Sami colors. On average, she carved 2-3 old men per day, which were sold to various customers, but the sales were interrupted until Hemslöjden, where she then received honorary degrees for her work.

9.5" Michael Wainwright/Sandra Baccus Amalfi Salad plate set. Selling the exact 4 plates shown all with no wear or damage. I'm not totally sure if this is the Turquoise Amalfi or a different color designed exclusively for Sandra Baccus whom was a very important collector of African American art among many other things, she donated her multi-million dollar collection after her death in 2012.All Michael Wainwright pieces are finished with real 24K gold and real platinum. These plates are heavy and beautiful. They measure 12.5" in diameter. Many of Wainwrights designs evolved out of studies in Italy, his love of nature, his appreciation of fine art. Because he comes from the Studio ceramic art world, he creates wabi-sabi (the art of imperfection)handmade details in every piece. Inspirations of late, include the Japanese technique of Kintsugi, (Mezza Collection) and artists such as Gustav Klimt, (Vienna Collection) among others. Wainwright created his first collection of tableware in 1991, the same year he founded his company. He initially sold his wares at street fairs and craft markets, but it wasn't long before he was discovered by high-end retailers. By 1995 Wainwright's collections were being sold in national and independent luxury goods stores across the country. Today, Michael Wainwright Inc. has evolved from a one-man operation to a well-established presence in the luxury goods marketplace. His designs can be found in such luxe stores as Neiman Marcus, Bloomingdales , as well as smaller fine home stores and boutiques. Wainwright is the sole designer of every piece in his collections. Regardless of material, almost all his work is finished with 24k gold or platinum, and all designed in his Great Barrington, MA studio.

15th/16th century Vellum Antiphonal leaf. This is on Vellum/hide. There are some tears but it's stable in the frame. For some weird reason there is clear tape on the back of the glass and a little on the front, possibly they taped the two panes together and over time the tape degraded a little, still it displays well. Slightly illuminated in the picture shown. 22.5" x 16" framed. The origins of liturgical music traditionally date back to St. Gregory the Great (d. 604), who was inspired by the Holy Dove to record the principles of 'Gregorian' chant. The Gradual contained the musical parts of the Missal and was sung from the steps (gradus) of the altar. The Antiphoner contained the musical sections of the Breviary. These terms have become interchangeable in modern times. Because of their size and complexity, these manuscripts were still being handmade in the traditional way for centuries after the introduction of printing. They were boldly hand-written and illuminated on large sheets of sturdy vellum so that the entire choir could read from one book.

Guaranteed 100% sure on<br>my life 100% authentic. By inheritance it's from the estate listed below, Debbie<br>is Rep Jerry L. Pettis' daughter Deborah mentioned below. Measures 22" x 16", I<br>have some other related items from the same estate that do help with the<br>provenance but I'm offering them separately as they are difficult to photograph<br>together and I cannot guess whether the potential buyer would be interested<br>enough in the other items. Some would, some won't. Plus I have to find said<br>items. Minor wear but overall clean with no significant issues. There were<br>apollo 8 and 11 items in this estate including signed presidential and signed<br>astronaut items. I'm actually not 100% sure which Apollo mission this poster is<br>from because evidently it's an extremely uncommon poster. It seems there was a<br>snoopy poster for every mission but you won't find them signed by Charles<br>Schultz, the highest result I found was an Apollo 1 poster the same size sold<br>for $3500 in 2018, unsigned.<br><br>SAN BERNARDINO, Calif., Feb. 14 (AP)—Representative Jerry L.
