Auguste Moreau (1834 – 1917) French Bronze sculpture putti with cymbals
Auguste Moreau (1834 – 1917) French Bronze sculpture putti with cymbals. High
quality well cast, heavy solid bronze sculpture from the last half of the 19th
century. 8 5/8" tall, was likely once mounted to a marble base which isn't
present. Austin Aqua Festival 1963,1964, 1957 Regatta Trophy
Austin Aqua Festival 1963,1964, 1957 Regatta Trophy. Selling all three with
provenance. These two Aqua fest Trophies will be the highlight of any Austin
Aqua Fest Collection. They are rare, one of a kind, the type of holy grail
collectibles that you don't even consider the existence of until you encounter
it. I'm including the 1957 trophy because it provides interesting provenance to
the two aqua fest trophies. They are all from the same estate and were won by
the Same man. I'm including a screenshot of his obituary. He was 40 when he won
the 1957 trophy, 46 for the '63, and 47 for the '64. Provenance is not something
usually considered with these types of collectibles, but it is interesting in
this case. I'm selling the lot for one price. If you're in Austin which the
future owner most likely will be, I've met locally to sell earlier skipper pins
and other rare Austin Memorabilia.

The Austin Aqua Festival was created in 1962 to promote Austin and the Texas
Highland Lakes as a top vacation area and to boost the local economy in what was
normally a slow period. The first Aqua Fest occurred Aug. 3-12, 1962. Art
Linkletter was the headliner for the event.

The festival offered many water related events such as a
150-mile canoe race, fishing contests, a sailingregatta and an illuminated night
time parade on the lake. There were many land based events also including the
Miss Austin Aqua Beauty contest, a twilight land parade, a
daytime military parade,
a rodeo, golf tournament, concerts, dances and fireworks.

Patrons of the fest could purchase a book of discount tickets to get into the
various venues. The tickets were called Skipper Script. The next year, the
script gave way to the Skipper Pin, which was purchased and pinned on the goers
clothing, letting the workers know that the wearer was eligible for discounts on
tickets.

The central location for many of the events was "Festival Beach," a small park
on Town Lake between the city-owned power plant and a residential neighborhood.
The city had originally created Town Lake as a cooling pond for the power plant.

In 1964, the festival added one of its most popular and controversial
events, drag boat racing on Town Lake. It also added a water
skiing championship, kite flying championship and an Austin Grand Prix - sports
car racing on city streets.

The 1966 Aqua Fest started out with the world premiere of Batman, with Adam
West and other actors from the movie in attendance. 1966 also saw the start of
the "Battle of the Bands", in which unknown rock and roll bands were judged for
awards and recognition. Battle of the Bands would become the festival's top
draw. The United States Air Force air demonstration squadron,
the Thunderbirds first performed at the Fest the same year.

By 1968, an estimated crowd of 150,000 watched the night lighted water parade,
which had been renamed to Rio Noche parade in 1964. The crowds were starting to
overwhelm Festival Beach causing traffic congestion, parking problems and
security concerns for the residents plus the noise of the events, especially the
drag boats. However, the mostly Hispanic community had very little political
clout to get anything changed.

Theme nightsEdit

Theme nights began in 1969. Various nights of the festival would highlight
different cultures of Texas. This first year there was
Western, German, Czech and Jazz and Rhythm and Blues nights. Throughout the
years the theme nights varied as new ones were tried and unpopular ones not
repeated. These included Mexican, Black Heritage, Italian, American and
International nights. Toward the end of the festival's life, the theme nights
had settled to multiple nights with Western and Mexican themes.

Aero-FestEdit

Also in 1969, Bergstrom Air Force Base, on the southeast edge of Austin, began
an open house in conjunction with Aqua Fest and titled it Aero-Fest. In addition
to the Thunderbirds performing, the gathering showed off many
military airplanes and other hardware. A crowd favorite was a C-5 Galaxy, which
visitors would walk through to get to the main display area. Aero-Fest was an
instant success and in just two years it was drawing 80,000 people to the base.
Aero-Fest ceased when the base closed in 1993.

1970–1979Edit

The new decade saw Aqua Fest's continued growth with the addition of more new
events such as a photography contest and motocross in 1971 and the Pet Parade in
1972. But the growth of the event brought confrontation with the neighborhoods
surrounding Festival Beach. Complaints had gone unheeded and people finally took
to the streets in protest. The anti-Fest coalition was led by Paul Hernandez and
a group calling itself the "Brown Berets." Protesters were arrested and they in
turn sued the City of Austin and Aqua Fest. By the end of the decade, the drag
boat races were gone from Town Lake and pressure was on to find a new location
to hold other Aqua Fest events.

1980–1989Edit

Due to continued protest and growing crowds, Aqua Fest was moved from Festival
Beach to Auditorium Shores, a larger park along Town Lake about a mile to the
west of Festival Beach. This larger area meant the festival could now have
multiple stages for entertainment. The festival organizers signed up corporate
sponsors and local radio stations to co-sponsor the entertainment and began
booking national acts.

The City of Austin, which had subsidized Aqua Fest in its early years, now
believed the Fest was self-sufficient and withdrew its financial support. The
city began charging the festival for use of Auditorium Shores.

In 1985, attendance at Aqua Fest peaked at 252,000. More criticism came at the
festival for lack of parking, excessive noise and alcohol abuse issues. This
time the rebuke was from residents of the Bouldin Creek neighborhood just south
of Auditorium Shores. The opponents of the festival were able to force a
non-binding referendum to move Aqua Fest to Lake Walter E. Long in far east
Austin. The measure passed but promised corporate support to build a new
facility went away as Texas entered an oil bust in the middle of the decade.
Aqua Fest stayed at Auditorium Shores.

1990–1998Edit

With its multiple stages for entertainment, Aqua Fest changed from a civic event
to a live music event. The organizers began to book bigger and bigger acts, even
paying premiums to get popular acts such as Dolly Parton in 1992. This drove
ticket prices up and attendance down. By 1993, the festival only drew 44,000
people and as a result lost $722,000. The festival organization exhausted its
cash reserves and asked its largest creditor, the City of Austin, for permission
to pay off its debt in annual installments.

In 1994, Aqua Fest returned to its roots with more local acts and an all
volunteer staff and in 1995 brought back the popular theme nights. They also
tried drag boat races again, this time at Lake Walter E. Long, but the races
drew little interest. It was all too little, too late and the Austin Aqua
Festival folded in 1998.

Austrian Cold Painted Bronze 3 Cats at Bowl
Austrian Cold Painted Bronze 3 Cats at Bowl. 2.5" wide x 1" tall, great piece from the first half of the 20th century with no damage and minimal wear to paint. I've seen this mold before with the Bergman mark, this one just has Austria mark so I'm not sure but it's his style and nice quality. Franz Bergman was an Austrian entrepreneur best known for his Viennese foundry which produced many patina- and cold-painted bronze sculptures of figures, animals, Orientalist scenes, and mythological creatures. Bergman is often misidentified as a sculptor, but he himself was not the original artist for the works—rather, he hired many anonymous sculptors to execute his ideas. He signed many of the works produced by his foundry with the pseudonym Nam Greb, so as to conceal his name from the authorities and avoid penalties for immorality. Born in 1861 in Vienna, Austria, he initially inherited a bronze factory from his father and later opened his own foundry. Bergman died in 1936 in Vienna, Austria figshelf

Autographed President Bill Clinton Photo with/to Andrew Sharp Peacock
Autographed President Bill Clinton Photo with/to Andrew Sharp Peacock. Authentic
White house photo from the Living Estate of Australian Ambassador Penne Korth
Peacock, Wife of Andrew Sharp Peacock. I cannot explain why the signature is
faded, maybe an accident, maybe sun, maybe a change in political views? Not
sure, but This is an official White House Photo of the president and an
Australian Politician/diplomat given to him while in office and signed by the
President. It's in a simple frame behind glass and I will keep it that way to
preserve it. The photo is 8" x 10".

Andrew Sharp Peacock AC GCL (13 February 1939 – 16 April 2021) was an Australian
politician and diplomat. He served as a cabinet minister and went on to become
leader of the Liberal Party on two occasions (1983–1985 and 1989–1990), leading
the party to defeat at the 1984 and 1990 elections.

Peacock was born in Melbourne and attended Elsternwick Primary School and Scotch
College before studying law at the University of Melbourne. A former president
of the Young Liberals, he was elected to Parliament at the age of 27, filling
the blue-ribbon seat of Kooyong, vacated by Sir Robert Menzies. Peacock was
appointed to cabinet in 1969 by John Gorton and later served under William
McMahon and Malcolm Fraser. He held a variety of portfolios, most notably
serving as Minister for Foreign Affairs from 1975 to 1980. He unsuccessfully
challenged Fraser for the Liberal leadership in 1982, but was then elected as
Fraser's successor following the party's defeat at the 1983 election.

At the 1984 election, the Peacock-led Coalition slightly reduced the Labor
Party's majority. He resigned the Liberal leadership the following year after
failing to have his deputy John Howard removed; he was duly replaced by Howard.
He remained a member of the shadow cabinet, and in 1987 unsuccessfully
challenged Howard for the leadership; he was instead elected deputy leader.
Peacock returned as leader in 1989. However, his second term lasted less than a
year, as he resigned after another electoral defeat in 1990; he had won the
popular vote but failed to win enough seats. Peacock left politics in 1994 and
was later appointed Ambassador to the United States, serving from 1997 to 1999.

b1

Benny and Valerie Aldrich sterling intarsia inlay cross pendant
Benny and Valerie Aldrich sterling intarsia inlay cross pendant. No issues, weight and measurements in pics. Nestled in the mountains of Durango, Colorado, Benny and Valerie Aldrich and their staff of four maintain a group purpose: operating in harmony and balance, to create expressions of perfection and love for themselves and others. Using the elements of the earth and sea, their works of art pass from hand to hand to create jewelry of unique heirlooms of uncompromised beauty. The Aldrichs style of intarsia inlay incorporates old world style combined with the new world of vivid colors and craftsmanship. From earth tones to extreme shimmer and sparkle, the jewelry reminds you of natures butterflies and humming birds. Valeries use of combining vivid colors and Bennys expertise of gold and silver-smithing is executed masterfully; framing them into wearable art that is unsurpassed. The Aldrichs were pioneers in incorporating faceted gemstones into southwestern style jewelry in the early 1970s. They were among the first to re-introduce spiney oyster and purple burro shell to the blooming industry. Their relationship with worldwide miners and importers is crucial to obtaining the magnificent colors they are famous for. This is a result of searching gem and mineral shows for over 45 years. All precious metals are tested and guaranteed, any Native American jewelry referred to as Silver or Sterling is guaranteed to be a minimum of 90% (coin) silver and possibly higher content. Most cuff bracelets are shown photographed on a 6" woman‘s wrist and will include a photo showing the inside circumference where the metal tip meets the number on the tape measure. All precious metals are tested and guaranteed. A Native American jewelry piece referred to as "silver" or "ingot" is guaranteed to be at least 90% silver. I rarely use the word "sterling" when referring to older Native American silver or really any older silver jewelry as silver contents vary and "sterling" is 92.5% silver. No older jewelry is going to be exactly 92.5% silver, some a little over, some a little under. It wasn‘t an exact thing with handmade jewelry. I‘ve seen thousands of pieces xrf‘d to prove this. A member of the Snow Clan, his Hopi name is Masaqueva, which means “Wings of the Sun or “Little Sun. His works are included in the collection at Harvard Universitys Peabody Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology as well as at other museums from California to New York and many private collections. As she had learned from her parents she has been a teacher to her two sons Carl Etsate a fetish carver and Todd Etsate as well as her daughter Tracy Bowekaty, a jewelry maker who is also following in her mothers and grandparents paths. She has over 40 years of experience in her craft. Over that time, she has become one of Zuni‘s foremost jewelers. Her work ranges through all the traditional techniques of Zuni: mosaic inlay, raised inlay, animated, pictorial inlay, and also needlepoint. She creates overlay and inlay figures, blossoms, holiday themes, corn style inlay, and needlepoint. Some of her favorite designs are kachinas, mudheads and bears. Bev Etsate Zuni Sterling snowman pendant/pin
Bev Etsate Zuni Sterling snowman pendant/pin, nice quality with no issues. Weight and measurements in pics. Bracelets are photographed on a 6" women‘s wrist.

Billy Molokeng LISTED South African ARTIST Pastel Drawing Warrior with Spear
Frame measures 25.75" x 18.5" dimensions inside inner matting is 12" x 19". It's
triple matted. Frame shows some wear, picture and matting are perfect.

Billy Molokeng

Born 1944 - Gauteng

About the Artist

Billy Molokeng was born in 1944 in the Alexandria Township in Johannesburg. He
was orphaned at a very young age and brought up by his sisters. In order to make
a day-to-day living he started selling his drawings, and later, paintings. This
brought him to the attention of a wealthy sponsor, who enabled him to attend a
private art school, which in turn helped to develop his style and technique.

Molokeng is an unusual and dynamic personality who enjoys and excels in all
forms of creativity. He composes and performs his own songs, enjoying enormous
popularity under the stage name of “Billy Africa”.

Style and Format

Versatility, dynamism and inventiveness have kept Billy Molokeng’s work fresh
and ever changing, ensuring that both he and his art do not become stereotyped.
This is demonstrated by the fact that his work was initially typically
“township” in character, but developed into his own more unique style in later
years.

His early paintings portray scenes taken directly from life in the townships.
The compositions of these early works are dense and on a single plane, usually
with several figures depicted in a bold and heavy manner. His individuality and
originality, however, is still strongly evident. His figures are lively and
filled with movement, containing a subtle humour, underlying joy and
light-heartedness which so many art lovers relate to, and enjoy.

During the 1970s and 1980s, this South African artist’s work became more
sophisticated, both technically and conceptually, representing a more mature
artist at work. Molokeng’s work started to move away from direct township
depictions towards a fusion of the urban experience with African motifs and
culture.

Compositionally, his African art became lighter and began to incorporate more of
the figurative and abstract than the literal. Many of his paintings began to
display a more sketchy landscape background, containing forms such as huts,
missionary churches, ox wagons, oxen and human figures in tribal and rural dress
partaking in traditional customs.

Towards the end of the 1970’s, a calligraphic element within his work began to
emerge. This, together with the Bushman-like figures that started to populate
his township art, gave his work a potent African flavour that still exists to
this day, and makes Billy Molokeng’s work so appealing to South Africans and
foreigners alike.

In the 1980’s Molokeng’s work witnessed further developments, resulting in a
more refined technique and style. Township life, once again, became important
subject matter, although it was rendered in a more personal manner and blended
with the African landscape. The landscape element of this newer work is more
solid and is rendered as an integral part of the more abstract compositions and
forms. Influenced by life and politics within the townships during the most
volatile period of South African history, Molokeng’s work began to demonstrate
strength and a sensitivity that were to remain an intrinsic part of his work.

Exhibitions

Molokeng had his first exhibition at Dorkey House, Eloff Street, Johannesburg.
In 1974 he participated in several group exhibitions – at the Canadian Embassy,
Gallery 101, Lidchi Art Gallery and at the Herbert Evans Art Gallery,
Johannesburg. In 1976, he participated in the Second International Art Fair in
Tel Aviv, Israel. This was followed by a one-man show in Germany in 1979. The
next year (1980), he took part in group shows in Athens and in Rome and
subsequently had a one-man show at the Lidchi Art Gallery in Johannesburg. In
1981, Billy Molokeng was awarded one of the three prizes for painting at the
Republic Art Festival.

Molokeng has also been featured in a group exhibition at the World Bank offices
in Washington, U.S.A. along with other artists chosen from Cameroon, Ghana, Mali
and Nigeria.

Currently, Billy Molokeng presents a strong sense of “Africa” within his
paintings. Their potency and appeal lie in his bold use of colour, his strong
compositions and his unique use of his medium. The acrylic and oils are used as
an overlay, which is often scratched away to create different textures and
layers, as well as expose various underlying colours. His use of black
strengthens and enhances the burnt sienna, ocher, gold, greens and blues as well
as emphasizing his trademark white and black eyes of his figures.

Billy Molokeng’s South African artworks are appreciated by thousands and are
part of many private and public collections both in South Africa and abroad.
