He studied with the neo-baroque sculptor Jef Lambeaux (1852-1908). In 1883, at twenty-seven, Van der Straeten moved to Paris. • Geraldine Yazzie Navajo Silver and turquoise cluster concho belt

Geraldine Yazzie Navajo Silver and turquoise cluster concho belt

    1 in stock

Geraldine Yazzie Navajo Silver and turquoise cluster concho belt. 59" total length with no holes in 1" leather belt. New old stock condition, never worn, purchased for 6500k about 20 years ago. High grade turquoise, very high quality workmanship. 3" x 2.5" buckle, (10) 2.5" x 2" conchos. 670 grams. Geraldine Yazzie started creating beautiful silver jewelry in the late 80‘s. Learning from her mother, she supports her own family with her well-crafted belts and other forms. She resides on the Navajo reservation in the area of Smith Lake, New Mexico near Crownpoint, New Mexico. Geraldine is a Navajo silversmith in her early 50‘s who has been smithing silver for over thirty years. She is known for her Traditional Revival style jewelry. Geraldine‘s work is sometimes misrepresented as vintage, old pawn because her detailing is so like the work common to the middle of the twentieth century. She is also particularly adept in her manner of oxidizing her silver so that the patina seems to be due simply to age of the piece. In addition, she pays particular attention to using stamps of a bygone era and sometimes adds small nicks to her pieces to make them look as though they‘ve been worn for decades. Marked or unmarked as shown in pics, weight and other measurements in pics. Sorry but my jewelry is stored in a secure location and cannot be accessed for more pictures,
videos, or measurements until sold. If you look at pictures/description your
question should be answered. Thank you so much for your time and consideration!

All precious metals are tested and guaranteed. A Native American jewelry piece referred to as "silver" or "ingot" is guaranteed to be at least 90% silver. Bracelets are photographed on a 6" women‘s wrist.

  • Gibson Nez (1947-2007) Jicarilla Apache and Navajo, Multi-stone inlay cuff brace - Estate Fresh Austin

Gibson Nez (1947-2007) Jicarilla Apache and Navajo, Multi-stone inlay cuff brace

Gibson Nez (1947-2007) Jicarilla Apache and Navajo, Multi-stone inlay cuff bracelet. 6 1/16" including the 1 1/16" gap. No damage, very clean with hardly any wear whatsoever. Tapers from 9/16" to 7/8" 89.4 grams. Gibson Nez, Jicarilla Apache and Navajo, is known throughout the Indian arts industry and by collectors worldwide as the master of stampwork. No other craftsman comes close to the expert precision of his sharp, clean, impossibly close stamps. Parallel lines, a hairs-breadth apart, encircle bolos and bracelets like radiant energy, drawing your eye to the extraordinary, gem-grade stone Gibson hand-picks to feature in the center. Stampwork of Gibson’s caliber requires extreme patience and an eye for balance. “What is important to me is to make one nice piece, not a lot of mediocre pieces,” said Gibson. Gibson’s pieces have won ribbons and awards at all the major competitions, including Gallup Ceremonial, Santa Fe Indian Market, the Heard Museum, the All Mankind Jewelry Competition in Washington, D.C., and Casa Grande in Arizona. Asked what makes him most proud in his work, Gibson said, “I simply try to make a piece that highlights the stone.” Gibson’s work embodies unrelenting attention to detail. Each hand-struck stamp adds and builds on the last. Single, meticulously placed lines are, together, the power to Gibson’s work - a complete harmony of silver and stone. Gibson sadly passed away on December 1, 2007, but his work will be cherished for years to come. Long after those who knew him are gone he will still be remembered through his powerful jewelry.

  • Grace Lai (1927-2010) Watercolor Painted of Beijing China Motorola Office while

Grace Lai (1927-2010) Watercolor Painted of Beijing China Motorola Office while

    1 in stock

This piece came from the estate of one of the Head Executives of I think most of
Asian Motorola which is headquartered out of Chicago where Grace Lai was from.
She was most likely flown to Asia, I believe this is the Beijing Building, for
this comission. It measures 23"x 30". It was rolled up at one point so I will
likely roll it up for shipping but not too tightly unless the buyer has a major
objection to that. NO issues with painting.

Grace Lai painted downtown Chicago in concrete and steel bloom, for two decades
producing vibrant montages of skyline-shaping buildings as they climbed.

An "on-site" artist who didn't seriously take up painting until nearly 60, Mrs.
Lai donned a hard hat and was unafraid to board construction elevators for rides
high into the sky to complete her work. In winter she'd wrap herself in plastic
garbage bags and substitute rubbing alcohol for water in her paints, so they
wouldn't freeze.

"She just really captured the essence of the dynamic nature of construction,"
said Tom Broderick, executive director of the Construction Safety Council in
Hillside, which has about 100 of Mrs. Lai's paintings on display. "The craft
workers will feel the loss of Grace. She really cared about the industry and the
people who worked in it."

Until her husband, Harry, died in 1985, Mrs. Lai was essentially an artist's
assistant. He maintained a studio on Kinzie Street in the building that now
houses Harry Caray's restaurant, producing signs that graced everything from
theater marquees to train stations.

He was also a fine artist, and on every wedding anniversary, which fell on
Valentine's Day, he gave his wife a painting of a rose.

Mrs. Lai did prep work and handled the books at her husband's business. While
she dabbled in drawing and painting, her husband always told her she needed to
learn the artist's trick of perspective and made her promise she'd one day go to
art school.

So when he died, she enrolled at the American Academy of Art in Chicago. Each
day she took an uncrowded, early morning bus to her classes so she'd have room
for her art materials.

She got off at LaSalle and Adams streets in front of a construction site. With
time to kill, she pulled out a pencil and sketched the action.

"The developers liked it so much they hired her to develop a documentation of
the progression of their buildings," her son said.

Thus the craft of construction became the primary subject of her art. Working in
watercolor or pen and ink, she became a familiar sight at construction projects
around town. Laborers stopped by to chat with the gregarious artist, asking if
they had been sketched in that day, sometimes buying work that bore their
likeness.

In addition to her work on display at the headquarters of the Construction
Safety Council, a longtime patron, Mrs. Lai's paintings are part of the
corporate collection at BP (formerly Amoco) and Northwestern Memorial Hospital,
her son said.

The daughter of immigrants from the Chinese region of Canton, the former Grace
Lee moved frequently in her youth as her family followed her father's various
restaurants. She graduated from Schurz High School in Chicago.

For many years, she was the Sunday school superintendent at Chinese Christian
Union Church in Chinatown.

She kept painting until only recently, working on projects including the Trump
Tower.

"If I lose myself in painting, that's good," she told the Tribune in 2002, still
vibrant as she neared 75.

The soles appear to have never touched the ground. There's a tag on then that
says 3 1/2D and has a price of 1.93 or 7.93, can't tell for sure. The laces are
a little frail, but the leather on the boots is soft like early kid glove
leather. There is some wear to the purple silk lining. They're pretty small
measuring 9.5" long from pointy top to very back of heel, and 2.75" wide at the
widest point.

  • Hand Forged Tortilla Pan with Thick Hammered copper skillet - Estate Fresh AustinCooking Utensils & Gadgets

Hand Forged Tortilla Pan with Thick Hammered copper skillet

    1 in stock

Hand Forged Tortilla Pan with Thick Hammered copper skillet. Personally found by me in an old Barn on a Ranch in Wimberley Texas. I have no way of knowing for sure how old it is but it's obviously old and obviously handmade completely 100% hand hammered copper and hand forged handle. It's functional and ready to use. 20.5" total length with 8 5/8" skillet section 12" handle. This is way thicker and heavier than any copper cookware I have seen. Likely intended for and used over open fire at a camp. I don't know if it's from 1800 or 1960 but a similar pot today would cost a small fortune and not be as well made. No issues, ready to use for whatever. TW224

Hand Hammered Copper Man With Beatnik wall Art c.1960's

This is an incredibly interesting one of a kind item. It's definitely old,
guaranteed 1920's to 1970's, I'm guessing 50's or 60's from the hairstyle and
patina of both the wood and the copper. It's in its original homemade frame with
an old plywood back. Really interesting, definitely not mass produced. Measures
12 5/8" x 9 3/4". I can't find any indication of it's artist. Since I haven't
owned it since it's conception, it's hard to tell if it's in original condition
or has some dents.

    1 in stock

Hand Painted Hochst Porcelain Coffee Set in box. Amazing set from the last half
of the 20th century 100% hand painted each piece signed by the artist. The
quality of this set compares with any of the worlds top porcelain manufacturers
and while Hochst isn't as prolific and sold in as many stores as Meissen,
Herend, Royal Copenhagen, etc it's just as good and a set like this would cost a
few grand if available today. It's mint I believe never been out of the box,
it's from a several million dollar home that was the couples' second home,
rarely visited. It's a demitasse coffee set 4 3/8" wide saucers cups 2 13/16"
wide without handles. It's complete and comes with 8 saucers, 6 cups, creamer,
sugar, and coffeepot. I'm guess it's 30-40 years old and there is minor
degradation to the foam interior of the box and some soiling to the box. there's
a different scene on each piece.

History of Hochst porcelain

The factory at Höchst was founded in 1746 and was supported by the Elector of
Mainz. They at first only produced faience but later (around 1753) mainly
porcelain was produced. The mark used was the wheel mark and later the wheel
mark with the electoral crown above it. Melchior was the most famous of the
figurine designers who worked for Hochst. After a fairly short existence, as was
the case with most of the makers of porcelain in the 18th century, Hochst’s
factory was closed in 1796. Nearly two centuries later, a modern factory was
opened in 1947. While the second factory closed in 1964. A third one followed in
1965 and is still around
