Mr. Avery believed that meaning is what makes life more beautiful<br>and this concept continues to drive how we design jewelry to this day. In 2007,<br>53 years after he first founded the company, James Avery officially stepped down<br>as CEO and passed the reins on to his sons, Chris and Paul. Mr. Avery’s mission was simple: to create jewelry with meaning—both for himself and others. With a focus on creating straightforward designs and a core belief of integrity in all things, his jewelry became more than precious metals and<br>gemstones. Guests came to him with their stories—their special moments—so he<br>could craft them into pieces they would wear with pride for a lifetime. From<br>writing letters to greeting Customers, Mr. Avery prioritized developing lasting<br>relationships with each person who connected with his designs.

Pada tahun 1941, Alfred A. Knopf menerbitkan novel Henry Steig, Send Me Down.

Lisa D'Agostino 18k/Sterling modernist earrings 10-11mm square, high quality<br>workmanship and design. No backs included, no other issues. 5.2 grams. For Lisa,<br>working with her hands has been the only thing that has ever really interested<br>her. Her curiosity about the potential for designing and creating with metal has<br>lasted since 1980. That year she participated in her first art fair. The shows<br>were local at first, but gradually developed into national venues that included<br>galleries as well. Except for an additional 12-year foray into baskets (see "The<br>Basketmaker's Art", Lark Publications) her focus has been on jewelry. The designs<br>have evolved over the years but the inspirations have remained the same. Lisa's<br>pieces are informed by geometry and architecture but tempered by the poetic and<br>philosophical aspects presented by astronomy. She ponders a phrase from an old<br>sixties song... "we are stardust - billion year old carbon."The work begins with<br>a loose drawing until a new solution or idea presents itself. It is a balance<br>between intention/chance and spontaneity/deliberation. The contours and forms<br>are simple at first. She likes the rigor and order of basic geometric shapes but<br>then organizing them into something more complex. Shapes are cut out of sterling<br>silver and formed or scored and soldered together. Other parts are distorted<br>through the rolling mill. Surfaces are textured with files or hammers or fused<br>with silver dust or 18K yellow gold. Many techniques may be incorporated into<br>one piece using a variety of hand tools, some of which are her oldest<br>buddies. The final steps involve patination of the piece, and then selectively<br>removing some of the patina to leave combinations of matte or polished surface<br>areas. Earthy rough stones and lustrous pearls are used to further enhance the<br>piece.Lisa was formally introduced to art at college. She earned a Bachelor of<br>Fine Arts degree at Bowling Green State University in 1977, but never really<br>learned to solder well until she was able to work in her own studio. She went<br>back to school, and after 3 years she earned a Master of Fine Arts degree from<br>the University of Kansas in 1991. During this time she continued to show and<br>sell her work at many selected art fairs and galleries across the country. All<br>precious metals are tested and guaranteed, any Native American jewelry referred<br>to as Silver or Sterling is guaranteed to be a minimum of 90% (coin) silver and<br>possibly higher content. Most cuff bracelets are shown photographed on a 6"<br>woman's wrist and will include a photo showing the inside circumference where<br>the metal tip meets the number on the tape measure.

A life-long Francophile, in July of 1956, she made the first of many trips to Europe, this initial journey on the venerable Queen Elizabeth. Foree always had an artistic bent. At various times, she was a painter, clothes designer, and interior decorator. Her greatest success, however, came as a jewelry manufacturer when she started a company in 1987 called Medalias by Foree Hunsicker. At one time employing nearly fifty people, Medalias specialized in luggage tag jewelry, reproducing in sterling silver a wide variety of Victorian-era luggage tags and fashioning them into earrings, necklaces, and other accessories. Navajo Ray Tracey Knifewing Modernistic Inlaid Earrings 1.25" wide square. Light scratches, no deep scratches, bends, or damage to stones. The Creative Process Fueled by Inspiration “God blesses everyone with a variety of gifts and talents.” The Creator blessed Ray with the spirit of Creativity. Inspiration is the basis for his creative spirit. Inspiration arrives in many forms and disguises when least expected. Hiking the canyons of the Southwest, where his ancestors did the same, gives Ray a feeling of reverence. Walking in peace with gratitude and thanksgiving opens up the senses to receive ideas. Petroglyphs carved on canyon walls turns into wearable art. Stories from an ancient past are re-lived on the faces of Yei pendants. The evening sky’s transformation of color inspired the Earth and Sky jewelry line. Once while golfing, a white butterfly landed on Ray’s golf bag and accompanied him down the fairway. This incident brought the Butterfly and Dragonfly design concept to reality. Having awareness of this special gift, he aspires to know the origin. Artist Ray Tracey has had a life-long love of jewelry. As a child growing up in Sawmill, AZ, Asa Tracey, his Grandfather, influenced him with his stories of working the goat bellows for his uncle. Asa would pump the goat bellows all day long to fuel the fire in the forge that would melt silver in a small cast iron crucible. This process was very labor intensive and his grandfather hated it. The molten silver would then be poured into a tufa stone mold to form an ingot. The jeweler would then execute his craft and a new piece of jewelry would be created. “I wanted to see finished jewelry and wanted to learn everything I could. Whenever we would go to Gallup, NM, I would visit curio stores to see creations in silver.” Ray spent time viewing jewelry designs at the Gallup Intertribal Indian Ceremonial and at the Navajo Nation Fair. Anywhere, there was jewelry on display; Ray could be seen viewing the works of art. Ray’s family moved to Ganado, AZ when he was six years old. One summer day when he was nine years old, he complained to his mother of how bored he was. The next day his mother enrolled him into summer school and changed his life forever. He went straight to art class and found a silver smithing table in the corner. He remembered his grandfather’s stories and the rest is history.  “In class I fabricated my first ring out of silver for my Mother. I found an unknown stone and made a cabochon. I tried to copy an old style ring design that I had seen at Hubbells Trading Post. One teardrop flanked the sides of the stone. It was a very simple design but it took me a week to finish. I kept melting the silver. I made my next silver and stone creation at the age of 21 and gave it to my mother. It was another ring, but this time it was a split shank with three ribs and three tear drops on the side of the stone.” I told my father, I want to make jewelry for the rest of my life.” Ray continued making jewelry while attending Brigham Young University. Studying chemistry and physics by day and making jewelry at night. “The designs were simple, my first love was Old Style Navajo jewelry. Weekends were spent traveling to Gallup, NM, to sell his work. While at BYU another opportunity arose to express his creativity—acting. “I wasn’t a very good student so Hollywood had an instant appeal. My gift of creativity carried over into acting. Acting was just another outlet of creative expression.” His adventurous nature allowed Ray to spend several years as an actor in feature films and television. This acting detour never made him lose interest in jewelry design. Eventually, Ray’s love of jewelry brought him back to New Mexico to permanently pursue this art form. “One time while traveling to Albuquerque from Gallup, I noticed the horizon over Laa Pueblo. I saw steps on a mesa. I incorporated this imagery of tiered steps into a bracelet design.” “Another time, while golfing at Hobble Creek Golf Course, I saw pebbles aligned in a  row on the river bottom. Those pebbles became my inspiration to place them on the sides of an inlaid bracelet.” “Sometimes my creativity comes to a screeching halt. When this happens I go to my roots; Old Style jewelry. That is the place of fascination. The Old Ones utilized rudimentary tools to create their simple, yet perfected, pieces of craftsmanship. From this point I am able to create from an inspiring idea. On the flip side, sometimes my mind becomes flooded with more designs than I can remember. Ideas come so quickly I can’t draw them fast enough.” “When I see someone wearing one of my designs, it takes me back to the time when the piece was created. Sometimes I can recall what I was eating or even the music I was listening to. I will remember the inspiration that helped create that design.” Ray has found his path or gift of self-expression that has blessed, enlightened, and influenced his life and others. Awareness of this special gift, fuels his energy and creativity. Inspiration helps to translate his creativity into artistic-visual expression. His creations stand as transitional figures from traditional to contemporary.  He creates something good as he is drawn toward untouched fields of yet-to-be-discovered imagery. Unknowingly he is creating a legacy from which generations can learn and grow. Ray has learned to appreciate and embrace the journey of life and its gifts.

The item you are purchasing is the exact item photographed as we only have one.******* Retired James Avery De Flores sterling and turquoise earrings. 5/8" 5.2 grams<br>with no issues.<br><br><br>James Avery founded his company in 1954, initially crafting jewelry in a two-car<br>garage in Kerrville, Texas, with just $250 and a desire to create lasting value<br>for others. Mr. Avery believed that meaning is what makes life more beautiful<br>and this concept continues to drive how we design jewelry to this day. In 2007,<br>53 years after he first founded the company, James Avery officially stepped down<br>as CEO and passed the reins on to his sons, Chris and Paul.<br><br>Mr. Avery’s mission was simple: to create jewelry with meaning—both for himself<br>and others. With a focus on creating straightforward designs and a core belief<br>of integrity in all things, his jewelry became more than precious metals and<br>gemstones. Guests came to him with their stories—their special moments—so he<br>could craft them into pieces they would wear with pride for a lifetime. From<br>writing letters to greeting Customers, Mr. Avery prioritized developing lasting<br>relationships with each person who connected with his designs.

c1940's Matilde Poulat screw back earrings 1.25" x 1" with no issues. 14.8 grams.MAT-MATILDE POULAT & RICARDO SALAS JEWELRY Matl is the mark that appears on some of the most beautiful and unique jewelry in Mexico. Matilde Eugenia Poulat introduced MATL in 1934 and, since her death in 1960, her designs and techniques have been carried on by her nephew, Ricardo Salas. For sr. Salas, who can recite poetry in the language of the Aztecs, the mark matl, has greater meaning in its reference to the Nahuatl or Aztec word for water, atl.As a young woman, Matilde Poulat studied painting at the prestigious San Carlos academy of fine arts in Mexico city, she went on to teach painting classes at an art school until her interest turned exclusively to silver. Matilde Poulat´s designs for jewelry and figures were part of the new cultural vision among Mexico’s intellectuals after the revolution in 1920s, artists were searching for Mexican aesthetic, rejection European subjects in favor of the art of the pre-conquest Indians and of the Mexican pueblos. Sra. Poulat found inspiration in the mextec gold jewelry discovered in 1932 at Monte Alban. Her choice of motifs the dove, flowers, and tiny bells are reminiscent of the whimsical subjects of contemporary Mexican folk art.Matilde Poulat received international recognition for her jewelry when she was asked in 1941 to participate in an exhibit of Latin American silver at the pan American union in Washington, D.C. as a result of increasing demand for matl silver during world war ii , the number of silversmiths in the taller increased to thirty-three. In 1950, Srta. Poulat and her nephew opened a showroom on the first floor of her home, where she also had the workshop. Ricardo Salas recalls that they made three thousand types of silver jewelry and one hundred different pieces.Ricardo Salas worked closely with his aunt from the time he was eleven years of age. He says she recognized his artistic talent when she saw him do a play with puppets he had made himself. Sr. Salas was sent to the San Carlos academy, where he received the premio Diego Rivera. As a youth, he learned the techniques of the silversmith and perfected the carving of "Off White", coral, turquoise, and other stones used in the jewelry and figurines. From sr. Salas perspective, he and his aunt collaborated so closely as designers, that there really cannot be a comparison of their work.In 1955, William Spratling wrote of Matilde Poulat: “she has continued to produce some of the most charming native jewelry in Mexico, intensely her own. Her jewelry has the same charm and delightful surface and colorful quality of the old lacquer work of Uruapan. Spratling`s admiration for matl silver reflects his recognition of their shared appreciation for Mexican native art. This mutual inspiration led each of the two artists in different directions within the same medium. The exuberance of matl silver resembles the interiors of the churches in Puebla, like the chapel of Santa Maria Tonantzintla, where Indians covered the interior of the dome with polychromed and gilded angels. In matl silver, the introduction of color is accomplished with bits of coral, turquoise, and amethyst quartz. The surfaces are decorated with applied wire and elaborated with embossing and repousse of astounding complexity (pl.XXIII-1, XXIII-10). Matilde Poulat and Ricardo Salas have been successful in incorporating the artistic language of the Mixtecs into jewelry and silver figures with imagination, drama, and with a style that is completely personal.

Gold, silver,<br>bronze and precious stones inspired the creation of fine jewelry, a creative<br>expression of human intelligence.<br>Through the ages, Greek goldsmiths have estab- lished an exceptionally unique<br>presence in the history of fine jewelry, evident across the Mediterra- nean,<br>spanning through the Archaic, Classical, Hellenistic and Byzantine eras of<br>Greece. The indestructible nature of fine jewelry exudes -like qualities, a<br>timelessness that surpasses the ages of style and trend. The Konstantino style<br>emerged from the roots of these traditions, paving the way for its own unique<br>style, one re-defining the blueprint of the classical Greek identity.<br><br>1958: Birth of a legend<br>Konstantino was born in Filiadona, a small village outside Athens where the<br>Ancient city of Melitea once stood. There he watched his father closely as he<br>worked on the farm, building machines and tools of his own. Here Konstantino<br>developed a great appre- ciation for the art of hand craftsmanship.<br><br>1978: A musical influence<br>Following his love for music, the young Konstantino became a disc jockey in the<br>city of Athens, playing everything from Carlos Santana to Lou Reed. These icons<br>and many more, inspired a stylistic fluidity that introduced an essence of glam<br>rock to the scene. By way of music, Konstantino began curating his own aesthetic<br>identity, as a creative mind and style icon. Where, these legends continue to<br>influence the rule breaking spirit that drives the design team at Konstantino to<br>this day.<br>about-image-4<br>1983: Jewelry saved my life<br>Konstantino fled the music scene of Athens in search of an oasis, he took a trip<br>to the island of Hydra where he lived for the next 15 years. It was on this<br>magical island, where Konstantino fell in love with jewelry. He began collecting<br>and curating jewelry, whereby in 1988 the first Konstantino store opened.<br><br>1991: Annette<br>Hydra is not only the birthplace of Konstantinos love for Jewelry but was also<br>where he met his soon to be wife and creative partner, Annette. Together, from<br>the ground up, Konstantino Jewelry soon estab- lished its presence in the US and<br>global market.<br><br>1998: Global Impact<br>As the admiration and craze for Konstantino spread, the dream continued to grow,<br>where now our designs can be found in 10 countries globally. With the addition<br>of a longstanding presence in Neimans, Sax, etc. etc. Konstantino is proud to<br>represent an evolution of the Greek style to the world of fine jewel- ry lovers.<br><br>2016: A Family Future<br>Konstantino and Annette’s children, Julian and Phaedra joined the team, further<br>continuing the legacy of love, risk, and passion for gold smithery and design.<br>This new generation leads with humility, knowledge and a natural instinct for<br>the dynamic of the Konstantino brand. Preserving the core philoso- phies of the<br>brand and expanding on its already established style, is a challenge that’s been<br>taken on with confidence.

He was a journalist and<br>teacher in New York for a time, but returned to Asheville, North Carolina in the<br>1950's to start jewelry crafting. It is not understood how he moved from one<br>profession to the next. His jewelry was mostly abstract in design, as was most<br>of the other hand crafted jewelry of the time. He worked in sterling silver and<br>enamel, as far as is known. His work was sold mostly in the Southern Highlands<br>Handicraft Guild located in Asheville, North Carolina, which had been<br>established in the 1930's to educate the region and arts community on the<br>importance of craft and its ability to impact the local creative economy. John<br>Bryan died in 1982 in North Carolina.

c1960 MCM Matisse Renoir Enamel Clip on earrings set. Unused condition, they<br>were tucked away in a box when I found them. 1 3/16" wide.<br><br>HISTORY OF MATISSE RENOIR VINTAGE JEWELRY<br>Matisse jewelry and Renoir jewelry are two separate lines housed under the same<br>umbrella. They first came into the market during the mid-20th century. Both<br>vintage jewelry lines used solid copper, which was once again available during<br>the post-World War II years.<br><br>Arts and Crafts Movement Influences<br>From the 1890s, and extending through several decades, the Arts and Crafts<br>Movement influenced several United States decorative art styles, including<br>jewelry making. The movement’s enthusiasts believed in a strong connection<br>between the artist and their handcrafted work.<br><br>First and foremost, Arts and Crafts artisans emphasized the use of top-tier<br>materials and functional designs.<br><br>For example, jewelry makers, like Matisse Renoir, insisted on using solid copper<br>rather than a copper-coated base metal. The artisans didn’t compromise on this<br>basic tenet. This was true whether they made a copper bracelet and matching<br>earrings or a striking copper brooch and clip-on earrings.<br><br>Due to metal purification advances, jewelry makers were able to access<br>higher-quality raw copper materials.<br><br>And, improved knowledge of copper’s properties enabled artisans to manipulate<br>the copper better, producing intricate designs.<br><br>In particular, Arts and Crafts-inspired jewelry often features nature images,<br>such as leaves and berries. A Matisse green enamel leaf brooch is a good example<br>of this nature-themed motif.<br><br>American Mid Century Designers’ Creative Inspirations<br>The Arts and Crafts Movement certainly influenced 1940s and 1950s jewelry<br>designers. Many mid-century modern designers incorporated abstraction and<br>surrealism into their pieces. And, numerous items display biomorphism, or shapes<br>that bear a resemblance to organic forms.<br><br>The bold copper motifs appealed to forward-thinking women who no longer wanted<br>to wear their mother’s or grandmother’s understated jewelry. For these ladies, a<br>copper choker, cuff bracelet, or Nefertiti necklace made the perfect accessory<br>for a night on the town.<br><br>Renowned Mid-Century Costume Jewelry Houses<br>During the post-World War II years, copper was a striking base material for<br>different jewelry genres. Deco, Native American, and modernist designs<br>prominently showcased this versatile metal.<br><br>Numerous costume jewelry manufacturers jumped on the copper jewelry bandwagon,<br>each introducing its own line of jewelry accessories. Copper is an extremely<br>adaptable metal. Not surprisingly, specialized copper jewelry makers understood<br>its properties best.<br><br>As a result, several renowned manufacturers produced most of the highest-quality<br>vintage jewelry available today. Matisse Renoir copper pieces carry a notable<br>pedigree. In addition, copper jewelry by Bell Trading Co., Francisco Rebajes,<br>and Gret Barkin remains very collectible.<br><br>Matisse Renoir Copper Jewelry Origins<br>In 1945, Jerry Fels, a Brooklyn, New York native, moved to California.<br>Previously a fighter pilot in World War II, Fels had cultivated his design,<br>painting, and sculpture talents at New York’s National Academy of Design. In<br>1946, a new jewelry style began to take the United States by storm, and Fels was<br>at the forefront of it.<br><br>Upon his arrival in the Los Angeles area, Fels and his brother-in-law Kurt<br>Freiler teamed up to create “Renoir of Hollywood.” The two later changed the<br>name to “Renoir of California,” then to “Hand Made Renoir of California,” before<br>finally settling on “Renoir.” Renoir specialized in creating copper jewelry that<br>incorporated bold geometric forms.<br><br>Not content to rest on his laurels, Fels launched “Matisse Ltd.” in 1952.<br>Matisse (which later became part of the Renoir jewelry business) also produced<br>finely crafted copper jewelry. Matisse’s decorative enameled embellishments set<br>it apart from Renoir.<br><br>From the mid-1950s until 1960, Renoir also marketed a third jewelry line called<br>“Sauteur Sterling Silver Jewelry.” The Sauteur pieces are much less common than<br>the companies’ copper jewelry items.<br><br>Renoir: A Jewelry Industry Innovator<br>Renoir was an innovator in the jewelry industry. Besides being at the forefront<br>of a jewelry style revolution, Renoir jewelry displayed three distinctive<br>product finishes that set it apart from its competitors. The first finish is the<br>“Copron” coating, which minimizes tarnishes from fingerprint oils.<br><br>Some Renoir jewelry also contains a corrosion-inhibiting shiny lacquer finish<br>that Fels obtained from an Air Force chemist friend. Unfortunately, Fels didn’t<br>note the formula, and the company’s chemists couldn’t successfully re-create it.<br><br>Finally, the third finish is the shadow. Some modernist jewelry makers<br>exaggerated their soldered copper marks by adding a black shadowing effect<br>around the soldered area. Collectors who buy these pieces are advised not to<br>polish the area to avoid eliminating the shadow.<br><br>The Renoir jewelry fabrication facility also pioneered three other innovations.<br>First, skilled machinists handled all the pre-production prep work. This left<br>the artisans free to finish, brush, and polish each piece by hand. As a result,<br>the jewelry attained a handcrafted appearance.<br><br>The Renoir shop area benefited from a complicated ventilation system that<br>prevented workers from breathing dangerous fumes. And, Fels and Freiler often<br>hired disabled and minority workers, a very uncommon practice during the 1940s<br>and 1950s. Matisse’s Curtis Tann was a highly respected African American enamel<br>artist of the era.<br><br>Matisse Renoir Ceases Production<br>Three unfortunate events collectively led to the end of Matisse and Renoir<br>jewelry production. During the early 1960s, jewelry sales were strong, and the<br>companies expanded their production facilities.<br><br>Then, American jewelry tastes began to change, and the demand for bold geometric<br>jewelry waned. At the same time, Matisse and Renoir were frequently mounting<br>expensive legal defenses against cheap copycat manufacturers.<br><br>Finally, the companies faced constant problems with a popular (and troublesome)<br>enamel design. High rejection levels led to massive losses, and finally, the two<br>companies went bankrupt and closed in 1964.
