42.5" Bernard Dawahoya Hopi overlay man in the maze sterling silver concho belt. Tested and guaranteed sterling silver. Weight and measurements in pictures. Fits up to a 42.5" waist but can of course be worn shorter by being linked on a shorter loop. Each concho hallmarked with Bernard Dawahoya‘s hallmark. Hopi artist Bernard Dawahoya was considered by all to be a master silversmith. His bold and clean designs along with the precise matting or texture he worked into the negative areas of this pieces, made his work easily recognizable. His Hopi name was Masaqueva (Wings of the sun). He was born in the second Mesa village of Shungopavi. Not only a master jeweler, but a respected storyteller and a man of great talents. He passed away in 2010. His work is displayed in Museums across the country and in many publications.

His mother Louise inspired him to make jewelry in the old style.The Navajo Tribe offered him a four-year scholarship in engineering, but being a rodeo cowboy was his dream, at the time. He ultimately returned to his passion for silversmithing, and became a silversmith in 1965. He spent most of his life in the Gallup, NM area, and at one point opened a jewelry supply store in Crownpoint, NM.He also operated a smithing studio, and employed many smiths who would also emulate the classic revival style. One of those employed was well-known silversmith Kirk Smith. Many of Harry Morgans stamps were inherited from his parents and uncle, or made by him.Harry Morgan was married to Navajo silversmith Betty Joe, and is the nephew of accomplished silversmiths Charlie Bitsue and Ike Wilson. Brother Henry Morgan is known for his exceptional sandcast pieces. Linda Marble, his sister, was also known for her sandcast pieces. She passed away in 2004.Of his five children, three have taken up silversmithing. Harry Morgan won awards at every major Indian art show, and had an exhibit of his creations at the Heard Museum in 2007, a year before he passed way.

Navajo silversmith Wilson Jim was born July 13, 1949 on the Navajo Reservation near Jeddito Trading Post, Arizona. He has been an active Silversmith since 1969. Wilson comes from a family of silversmiths. His grandfather was Bedoni and he is the brother of Thomas Jim. He has received numerous awards for his work and is highly acclaimed for his detail in every piece he creates. Rocking Horse Ranch in Arizona (owned by Lani Mastrangel and Kevin Randall) was a renowned producer of high-quality Navajo silver jewelry from the 1970s onwards. It served as a workshop for master Navajo silversmiths like Edison Smith, Fidel Bahe, and Thomas Curtis, revitalizing early 1900s design techniques.

Born on the Acoma Reservation, Wolf Robe was the son of Chief Day Break (Edward Proctor Hunt), Chief of the Delight Makers -- a man instrumental in the improvement of relations between the Acomas and whites. His mother, Morning Star, whose own father was Governor of Acoma seven times, was a potter and weaver. Wolf Robe learned silver-smithing from his older brother on the reservation. Wolf Robe achieved recovnition and fame for his jewelry and art work, winning the prestigious Philbrook Art Center's Grand Award in 1967. In addition, he was a businessman, with his own arts and crafts store in Tulsa, a lecturer, international traveller, author, and translator for the Bureau of American Ethnology. He assited L. A. White in his extensive studies of the Acoma Indians and made recordings for the National Anthropological Archives. Wolf Robe was particularly interested in the preservation of tribal customs, language and culture, and devoted his own time to this and the encouragement of others in similar efforts. Solid 14k gold with just one sheet of sterling on the back. The bezel and all the top part is solid 14k gold (tested) you can clearly see where the thinner plate of sterling is bonded to the back. There is a lot more gold than sterling in the bracelet, I believe the sterling is just there for spiritual/health/traditional reasons, weight and mearements in pics. Wayne (1942-2006) and his wife Virginia (1940- ) were born in Zuni, NM and started making jewelry in the 1960‘s. He learned from his mother, Alice Quam. They were/are award winning smiths and lapidarists and their jewelry is highly collectible. Both he and she are referenced in Schaaf‘s "American Indian Jewelry I and III", Hougart‘s "Native American and Southwestern Silver Hallmarks", Wright‘s "Hallmarks of the Southwest" and Bassman‘s "Zuni Jewelry".
