Monique Sakellarios Impressionist New Hampshire Beach Oil on Board

Description

Monique Sakellarios was born in Egypt and was educated at the Leonardo Da Vinci
School of Art and the American University in Cairo. She moved to the United
States while in her twenties.

She has painted professionally for almost twenty years and has accumulated an
impressive number of national awards and has participated in dozens of juried
exhibitions. Ms Sakellarios is a member of the New Hampshire Art Association, a
signature member of the National Oil and Acrylic Painters Society and an
associate member of the Oil Painters of America, the Hudson Valley Art
Association and the Catharine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club. She has been profiled in
The Artist's Magazine (March 1997 and September 1997) as well as in The
International Artist Magazine (August/September 1999).

Her paintings are characterized by their impressionist style and by their rich
warm palette - an effect achieved in part through Ms Sakellarios' practice of
priming her canvases with cadmium red. She paints wet on wet and the resulting
works reflect a fluidity of style and an immediacy which capture her subjects
with compelling integrity. Her landscapes are gentle, reflective worlds which
are imbued with a quiet dignity and elegance. As silent observer, Ms Sakellarios
immortalizes the private world to which she often bears witness. Figures may
serve as distant focal points: a young child standing in a sea of wildflowers,
lost in some moment of child reverie ...a woman reading quietly amidst the
shadows of a summer garden. Ms Sakellarios' compositions resonate with light and
sentiment and speak to a universally appealing theme of serenity and grace."

16.5" x 18.5" frame, 8" x 10" masonite panel. Original work. No issues with
painting, some wear to frame and soiling to matting.
