1970's Mitchell Sockyma Hopi overlay screw back earrings sterling

    1 in stock

Mitchell Sockyma Hopi overlay screw back earrings sterling. Solid sterling. Weight and measurements in pics. Mitchell Sockyma was born in Hopiland in 1942 and spent his childhood in the third Mesa village of Hotevilla. In 1973, he landed a job at the Hopi Crafts Shop, a workshop and studio new his home where his two older brothers were also silversmiths. Over the years, Mitchell has expanded his range of skills, including soldering 14k gold onto silver, which embellishes the traditional Hopi symbols he uses. As a member of the Corn Clan, his use of corn stalks is important, as is the Kokopelli, turtles, bear paws, and claws and wave designs. Unlike many other Hopi artists, he combines several of these design elements into one piece. He also incorporates brightly colored gemstones, natural turquoise, lapis and coral into the design. Considered one of the finest contemporary Hopi jewelers today, Mitchell has won numerous awards for his stunning pieces from the Northern Arizona Museum and Gallup, New Mexicos Annual Intertribal Ceremonial. He still resides with his family in Hopiland where he maintains a lifestyle in which art and beauty are intertwined with his Hopi religion and values in his everyday life. Retired James Avery 14k shell earrings

    1 in stock

Retired James Avery 14k shell earrings. No issues, weight and measurements in pics. Missing original backs, I put new silicon backs on them. James Avery founded his company in 1954, initially crafting jewelry in a two-car garage in Kerrville, Texas, with just $250 and a desire to create lasting value for others. Mr. Avery believed that meaning is what makes life more beautiful and this concept continues to drive how we design jewelry to this day. In 2007, 53 years after he first founded the company, James Avery officially stepped down as CEO and passed the reins on to his sons, Chris and Paul. Mr. Averys mission was simple: to create jewelry with meaning both for himself
and others. With a focus on creating straightforward designs and a core belief
of integrity in all things, his jewelry became more than precious metals and >gemstones. Guests came to him with their stories their special mementos he could craft them into pieces they would wear with pride for a lifetime. From writing letters to greeting Customers, Mr. Avery prioritized developing lasting relationships with each person who connected with his designs.

  • Ramon Dalangyawma Hopi sterling earrings - Estate Fresh Austin

    Ramon Dalangyawma Hopi sterling earrings

    1 in stock

Ramon Dalangyawma Hopi sterling earrings. No issues, weight and measurements in pics. Capital letters spelling DALANGYAWMA identify the sterling overlay jewelry produced by Hopi/Navajo silversmith Ramon Dalangyawma. Born Ramon Albert, Jr. at the Grand Canyon Village, January 26, 1954, Ramon was raised by his grandparents, and, aunts in the pueblo at Hotevilla, Arizona. In his formative years, Ramon worked the family five acre farm growing corn, beans and squash. He vividly remembers the time spent checking the plants daily for worms, and the unmistakable aroma of home made piki bread. As an initiated member of the Hopi Kachina Society, responsible for tending his five acre field, hauling the family water (five gallons per bucket, sometimes hauling twobuckets per day), one wonders where he finds time to make jewelry. Ramon moved from the pueblo to study at the IAIA school in Santa Fe for two years, transferring to Phoenix Indian High School high school, where he graduated in 1972. After high school, he enlisted in the Marine Corps. He was promoted from Private to Corporal taking his training at the Communications school in Twenty Nine Palms, California. He says that President Nixon is his “big hero because it was his decision to begin the withdrawal of troops from Viet Nam that kept him from being shipped overseas as a Field Radio Operator. Ramon completed a 12 month tour on Okinawa, in the pacific, and after the military, he worked for a short time with the Bureau of IndianAffairs in Tuba City. Ramon returned to Hotevilla in 1978 and began Silver work at the Hopi Arts and Crafts center. Working in copper, brass, and bronze, he signed his earliest work with stylized initials RA. (Ramon Albert) Many of Ramons works went unsold because they lacked a distinguishable Hopi surname. Like his father before him, Ramon was named after the son of Lorenzo Hubbell, who owned and operated the New Oraibi Trading Post. His grandmother gave Ramon Albert, Jr. the Hopi name Dalangyawma, which he has adopted as his hallmark. Ramon sells most of his jewelry at Indian art and craft fairs. Ramons designs often reflect his Hopi culture. Designs such as clouds, thunderbolts, and rain reflect the importance of weather in an area where there is no irrigation. Clan symbols, such as the bear, spider, and antelope, mixed with prayer feathers, kachinas, Kokopelli and corn are all combined in Ramons work. Ramon dislikes doing the smaller pieces not because of limited space for his hallmark, but because holding and cutting small pieces of silver is difficult and tedious. He prefers to work on larger items. Marked or unmarked as shown in pics, weight and other measurements in pics. They both made jewelry since the 1940s and Lee has said that they sold to wonderful traders like C.G. Wallace, R. L. Wallace, Joe Tanner and Dude Kirk. They also sold beautiful jewelry to Don and Nita Hoel over the years. Lee was born in 1929 and Mary in 1933. Lee and Mary married in 1949 and started making jewelry together shortly after. Greg Schaaf stated in his book “American indian Jewelry: 1200 Artist Biographies that “they were one of the best husband-wife teams in the history of Zuni jewelry. Lee did most of the silver work while Mary was the stone cutter, which she learned to do from Lees mother, Lula. She is known for her master stone cutting skills which are very unusual because of the rounded edges on the stones. They both then set the stones. Retro Sergio Bustamante Mexican modernist sterling dangle earrings

    1 in stock

Retro Sergio Bustamante Mexican modernist sterling dangle earrings. No issues, weight and measurements in pics. -anderas Sergio Bustamante is a Mexican artist best known for his depictions of animals and inventive humanoid creatures. Working in paper maché, wood, bronze, ceramic and silver, Bustamantes sculptures are often painted or glazed, allowing him to bring even greater heights of imagination and surrealism to his creatures. Born in 1942 in Sinaloa, Mexico, he went on to study architecture at the University of Guadalajara, leaving before he finished his degree in order to focus on craft making and fine art. Bustamante had his first exhibition at Galeria Misrachi in Mexico City in 1966, and continues to exhibit his work around the world. The artist lives and works in Mexico. All precious metals are tested and guaranteed. A Native American jewelry piece referred to as "silver" or "ingot" is guaranteed to be at least 90% silver. I rarely use the word "sterling" when referring to older Native American silver or really any older silver jewelry as silver contents vary and "sterling" is 92.5% silver. No older jewelry is going to be exactly 92.5% silver, some a little over, some a little under. It wasn‘t an exact thing with handmade jewelry. I‘ve seen thousands of pieces xrf‘d to prove this. Bracelets are photographed on a 6" women‘s wrist.

Retired James Avery sterling cross earrings and charm. Weight and measurements in pics, no issues. James Avery founded his company in 1954, initially crafting jewelry in a two-car garage in Kerrville, Texas, with just $250 and a desire to create lasting value for others. Mr. Avery believed that meaning is what makes life more beautiful
and this concept continues to drive how we design jewelry to this day. In 2007, 53 years after he first founded the company, James Avery officially stepped down as CEO and passed the reins on to his sons, Chris and Paul. Mr. Averys mission was simple: to create jewelry with meaningboth for himself
and others. With a focus on creating straightforward designs and a core belief
of integrity in all things, his jewelry became more than precious metals and
gemstones. Guests came to him with their storiestheir special momentsso he
could craft them into pieces they would wear with pride for a lifetime. From
writing letters to greeting Customers, Mr. Avery prioritized developing lasting relationships with each person who connected with his designs.

Antonio Pineda
(1919-2009)In the mountain town of Taxco in Mexicos state of Guerrero,
large-scale mining can be dated to thesixteenth century, and silver is a way of
life. In the years following the Mexican Revolution (191020), jewelry and other
silver objects were crafted there with an entirely innovative approach,
informedby modernism and the creation of a new Mexican national identity. Today,
at the age of 89, AntonioPineda is one of two living members of the Taxco School
and is recognized as a world-class designerand a Mexican national treasure.
Nearly two hundred examples of Pinedas acclaimed silver work willbe displayed
in Silver Seduction: The Art of Mexican Modernist Antonio Pineda, a
travelingexhibition debuting at the Fowler Museum Aug. 24, 2008.Significantly,
given Pinedas many accomplishments and international renown, he identifies
himselfprimarily as a taxqueño, or Taxco, silversmith. From its inception, the
Taxco movement broke newground in technical achievement and design. While
American-born, Taxco-based designer WilliamSpratling has been credited with
spearheading the contemporary Taxco silver movement, it was agroup of talented
Mexican designers who went on to establish independent workshops and develop
thedistinctive “Taxco School. These designers incorporated numerous aesthetic
orientationsPre-Columbian art; silverwork, images, and other artwork from the
Mexican Colonial period; andlocal popular artsmerging them within the broad
spectrum of modernism.Pineda himself is lauded for his bold designs and
ingenious use of gemstones. Silver Seduction tracesthe evolution of his work
from the 1930s70s, and includes more than fifty each of necklaces andbracelets,
as well as numerous beautiful rings, earrings and diverse examples of his
hollowware andtableware. All of the works feature Pinedas hard-to-achieve
combination of highly refined and hand-wrought appeal.Pinedas jewelry is
especially known for its elegant acknowledgment of the human form. It is
oftensaid that a Pineda fits the body perfectly, that it feels right when it is
worn. So, for example, a thickgeometric necklace that might at first glance seem
too weighty or rigid to wear comfortably is, in fact, faceted, hinged, or
hollowed in such a way that it gracefully encircles the neck or drapes
seductivelydown the décolletage. In addition, no other taxqueño jeweler used as
many costly semiprecious stones or set them with asmuch ingenuity, skill, and
variety as did Pineda. Only the most talented of silversmiths could master

Hector Aguilar Taxco Mid Century Modernist sterling silver screw back earrings

Hector Aguilar Taxco Mid Century Modernist sterling silver screw back earrings. Selling the earrings shown with no issues. Hector Aguilar was a master silversmith, jewelry maker, and the first graduate from William Spratling’s famous apprenticeships in Taxco, Mexico. He met
Spratling almost by chance while bringing a load of tourists to Taxco from
Mexico City in the 1930s. Aguilar was one of Spratling’s best pupils, who often
worked with close-to-pure silver (rated at 980 instead of the 925 of sterling
silver on the silver scale). Aguilar was also a great businessman who only
stayed at Spratling’s workshop for three years before finding investors for his
own workshop, Taller Borda.

Aguilar’s Taller Borda became a huge success in 1943, when they secured a
contract with an American jewelry company, Coro. They produced several notable
designs for Coro throughout the 1940s. Hector kept Taller Borda running until
1966 when he closed up shop and enjoyed a nearly 20-year retirement, his place
in the firmament of great Mexican silversmiths already secured.

What kind of art did Hector Aguilar make?
Hector Aguilar was a silversmith, jewelry designer, and artist whose work helped
popularize Mexican silver in the 1940s and 1950s. His workshop’s pieces for the
retailer, Coro were instrumental in this endeavor. That relationship lasted
nearly a decade and produced some of Aguilar’s most vital work. As with most of
the Mexican silversmiths from this time, these designs were heavily inspired by
pre-Columbian artifacts and the folk art of Mesoamerica. Aguilar’s work
continued to innovate over the next several decades, bolstered the quality of
his pieces, which often used much more pure silver than his competitors. These
days Aguilar’s jewelry is highly sought after for his mastery of the craft of
silversmithing as well as its extremely high silver rating.

How did silversmith Hector Aguilar get started?
Hector Aguilar was born in 1905 in Mexico City. Not much is known of his early
years, but a chance encounter with William Spratling in the early 1930s set him
on a silversmithing career that would span three decades. Aguilar brought
tourists from Mexico City to the small town of Taxco, a place that as fate would
have it also was where Spratling was starting his silver workshop. Aguilar
worked for several years as the shop manager for Spratling while also becoming
an apprentice silversmith. After three years, Aguilar left to start his own
workshop, Taller Borda. That workshop would create countless beautiful pieces,
with unceasing quality up until its closure in 1966.

M Navajo Basket form sterling/copper pendant/pin earrings set. No issues, I'll put new (possibly not sterling) replacement backs on the earrings before shipping as they are missing. It wasn't an exact thing with handmade jewelry. I've seen thousands of pieces xrf'd to prove this. Bracelets are photographed on a 6" women's wrist.
