Andrews - Rollin Karg Art Glass Paperweight no cracks, chips, scratches, or dings. 3.5" wide x 1.5" tall.   As you can see these two names Andrews and Karg are in two different handwriting,  this was made by both artists.   Rollin Karg, is a renowned glass artisan from the Midwest who designs and creates small and massive sculptural pieces from molten glass, usually shaped in a free-form, asymmetrical manner.  He brings the glass to life through his dynamic use of color, especially dichroic colors – a color that transmits one color while reflecting another – which adds a unique dimension to the piece. While Karg prefers to use traditional techniques of glass making that are thousands of years old, he also adds his own inventive techniques to each project.  It is amazing and awe-inspiring to watch him create massive works of art through the use of a five-foot blowpipe. Although Karg spent the first part of his career as an industrial engineer, photographer, potter and woodworker before becoming a full time glass artist in 1983, he has quickly gained notoriety for his contribution to the world of glass art.  He has won many awards in competitions and shows throughout the United States and his work has been exhibited throughout most of North America.

c1915 22" Bronze Sculpture of Salome with John the Baptist's Head by Philipp<br>Modrow<br><br>A rare work from a rather obscure sculptor, this example captures the famous<br>Biblical scene of Salome with John the Baptist's head. Herod's second wife,<br>Herodias, originally the wife of his brother Philip, had her daughter Salome<br>dance before Herod and his entire court in hopes of manipulating him against<br>John the Baptist. John was outspoken in his reproach of Herod for taking his<br>brother's wife and Herodias wanted him executed for this, though Herod would not<br>comply. However, greatly pleased by her dancing and drunk with his guests, Herod<br>promised to give Salome anything she asked for, up to half of his kingdom.<br>Salome asked to have the head of John the Baptist on a plate, as he was<br>presently held in the king's prisons. Placed in an awkward position in front of<br>his court, he was forced to grant her request despite his own personal<br>objections. The scene is moving in it's exceptional rendering of Salome's<br>careless and selfish nature. She clutches her prize with a certain grotesque<br>pleasure, an unsettling image of one so led astray for the vengeance of her<br>mother to an empty and ugly result. Modrow has sculpted her ingeniously to be<br>equal parts beautiful and repulsive. She stands before a naturalistic rock<br>backdrop. The sculpture is signed on the right and impressed by the foundry on<br>the left. Philipp Modrow (German, 1882-1925) is documented in the E. Benezit<br>Dictionary of Artists (Gründ, Vol. IX, p. 1080) as being the student of Emil<br>Cauer Jr. and that he is noted for his 1923 sculpture "Monument to Spengler" in<br>Davos, where he died in December of 1925.

c1890 Mt Washington Burmese Hobnail Creamer and Sugar Rare and Authentic<br>Guaranteed circa late 19th century. Selling both for one price. Creamer is 5.75"<br>tall x 5" wide with handle. Sugar is 4" tall x 6.25" handle to handle. A few<br>minor imperfections from production, no cracks, chips, or restorations. Both<br>with ground Pontils, creamer marked #130, they glow under blacklight.<br><br>Burmese glass is a type of opaque colored art glass, shading from yellow to<br>pink. It is found in either the rare original "shiny" finish or the more common<br>"satin" finish. It is used for table glass and small, ornamental vases and<br>dressing table articles.<br><br>It was made in 1885 by the Mount Washington Glass Company of New Bedford,<br>Massachusetts, USA. Burmese glass found favor with Queen Victoria. From 1886,<br>the British company of Thomas Webb & Sons was licensed to produce the glass.<br>Their version, known as Queen's Burmeseware, which was used for tableware and<br>decorative glass, often with painted decoration. Burmese was also made after<br>1970 by the Fenton art glass company.<br><br>Burmese is a uranium glass. The formula to produce Burmese Glass contains<br>uranium oxide with tincture of gold added. The uranium oxide produced the<br>inherent soft yellow color of Burmese glass. Because of the added gold, the<br>characteristic pink blush of color of Burmese was fashioned by re-heating the<br>object in the furnace. The length of time in the furnace will determine the<br>intensity of the color. Strangely, if the object is subjected to the heat again,<br>it will return to the original yellow color.<br>tw133

Selling both, not an exact match.<br><br>Ishmael Soto, longtime Austin ceramicist and teacher, died Monday after a battle<br>with cancer. He was 84.<br><br>“Ishmael’s passing is a loss for us all in the community,” said Sylvia Orozco,<br>director of Mexic-Arte Museum. “He was a great human being, teacher and artist.<br>Ishmael was one of the first, if not the first Mexican-American Austinite to<br>become a professional visual artist.”<br><br>Artist and teacher Ishmael Soto died Feb. 27 at age 84. Contributed by Tahila<br>Mintz<br><br>Soto won many prizes and was exhibited frequently in group and solo shows.<br><br>A native Austinite, Soto earned his first degree from the University of Texas<br>and his second from the famed Cranbrook Academy of Art in Michigan. 4 Antique Barber Bottles Amethyst Cobalt Blue Opalescent Glass. Selling all four for one price they range in height from 6.5" to 7 3/8" all late 19th to early 20th century. No cracks, chips, or restorations. Fancy barber bottles were popular in the second half of the 19th century. Barbers made their own hair tonic and other hair products or bought them in large containers and poured them into their own barber bottles. Most barber bottles weren’t labeled, but the barber knew what was inside each bottle because of its shape and color. Some were made for specific customers and were labeled with the customer’s name. Most have a bulbous bottom and thin neck. The bottles were made in cranberry, cut, hobnail, milk, opalescent, spatter, vaseline and other types of art glass in many colors. Most were blown. Look for a pontil mark on the bottom of the bottle. The stopper is also a good clue to the bottle’s use. If it has a sprinkler top, it’s not a liquor bottle. The Pure Food and Drugs Act of 1906 made it illegal to use refillable bottles without labels in a barbershop, and the bottles were no longer used.

Alfred J Bennett(1861-1923) British Pencil Signed Engraving Westminster Abbey. 17.75" x 13" framed. Slight discoloration only visible on border, clean frame. Alfred John Bennett (1861 – c.1923) was an Englishartist who worked in oils, watercolour and etching. Life and work Bennett was born in London which became a major source of inspiration to the artist. His paintings, drawings and etchings, more often than not, depicted well known landmarks of the capital city. In December 1889 Bennett married Catherine Avery (They had one daughter, Mary Catherine) and spent a short amount of time living with her family in East Hyde, Bedfordshire.[1] During this period Bennett worked as a Jeweller, whilst also regularly submitting paintings to the Royal Academy of which four were exhibited between 1861-1880.[1][2] After this success, Bennett left the jewellery trade and concentrated on his art, first moving to Thornton Heath, Surrey and then relocating his studio to Knebworth.[3][4] Exhibitions Bennett exhibited extensively, regularly contributing work to the Royal Watercolour Society (17 pictures) and British Institution (2 pictures) exhibitions.[2] A further painting titled The Hill Farm was exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1916, and he achieved more success with solo and joint shows at the prestigious Walker's Gallery in New Bond Street, London in 1918 and 1923.[4] In addition, he also exhibited works at the Fine Art Society, New English Art Club, Grosvenor Gallery, International Society, and the Royal Institute of Oil Painters.[3] Many of Bennett's works are found in public art collections, including two watercolours in the collection of Brighton Museum & Art Gallery. Navajo Ray Tracey Knifewing Modernistic Inlaid Earrings 1.25" wide square. Light scratches, no deep scratches, bends, or damage to stones. The Creative Process Fueled by Inspiration “God blesses everyone with a variety of gifts and talents.” The Creator blessed Ray with the spirit of Creativity. Inspiration is the basis for his creative spirit. Inspiration arrives in many forms and disguises when least expected. Hiking the canyons of the Southwest, where his ancestors did the same, gives Ray a feeling of reverence. Walking in peace with gratitude and thanksgiving opens up the senses to receive ideas. Petroglyphs carved on canyon walls turns into wearable art. Stories from an ancient past are re-lived on the faces of Yei pendants. The evening sky’s transformation of color inspired the Earth and Sky jewelry line. Once while golfing, a white butterfly landed on Ray’s golf bag and accompanied him down the fairway. This incident brought the Butterfly and Dragonfly design concept to reality. Having awareness of this special gift, he aspires to know the origin. Artist Ray Tracey has had a life-long love of jewelry. As a child growing up in Sawmill, AZ, Asa Tracey, his Grandfather, influenced him with his stories of working the goat bellows for his uncle. Asa would pump the goat bellows all day long to fuel the fire in the forge that would melt silver in a small cast iron crucible. This process was very labor intensive and his grandfather hated it. The molten silver would then be poured into a tufa stone mold to form an ingot. The jeweler would then execute his craft and a new piece of jewelry would be created. “I wanted to see finished jewelry and wanted to learn everything I could. Whenever we would go to Gallup, NM, I would visit curio stores to see creations in silver.” Ray spent time viewing jewelry designs at the Gallup Intertribal Indian Ceremonial and at the Navajo Nation Fair. Anywhere, there was jewelry on display; Ray could be seen viewing the works of art. Ray’s family moved to Ganado, AZ when he was six years old. One summer day when he was nine years old, he complained to his mother of how bored he was. The next day his mother enrolled him into summer school and changed his life forever. He went straight to art class and found a silver smithing table in the corner. He remembered his grandfather’s stories and the rest is history.  “In class I fabricated my first ring out of silver for my Mother. I found an unknown stone and made a cabochon. I tried to copy an old style ring design that I had seen at Hubbells Trading Post. One teardrop flanked the sides of the stone. It was a very simple design but it took me a week to finish. I kept melting the silver. I made my next silver and stone creation at the age of 21 and gave it to my mother. It was another ring, but this time it was a split shank with three ribs and three tear drops on the side of the stone.” I told my father, I want to make jewelry for the rest of my life.” Ray continued making jewelry while attending Brigham Young University. Studying chemistry and physics by day and making jewelry at night. “The designs were simple, my first love was Old Style Navajo jewelry. Weekends were spent traveling to Gallup, NM, to sell his work. While at BYU another opportunity arose to express his creativity—acting. “I wasn’t a very good student so Hollywood had an instant appeal. My gift of creativity carried over into acting. Acting was just another outlet of creative expression.” His adventurous nature allowed Ray to spend several years as an actor in feature films and television. This acting detour never made him lose interest in jewelry design. Eventually, Ray’s love of jewelry brought him back to New Mexico to permanently pursue this art form. “One time while traveling to Albuquerque from Gallup, I noticed the horizon over Laa Pueblo. I saw steps on a mesa. I incorporated this imagery of tiered steps into a bracelet design.” “Another time, while golfing at Hobble Creek Golf Course, I saw pebbles aligned in a  row on the river bottom. Those pebbles became my inspiration to place them on the sides of an inlaid bracelet.” “Sometimes my creativity comes to a screeching halt. When this happens I go to my roots; Old Style jewelry. That is the place of fascination. The Old Ones utilized rudimentary tools to create their simple, yet perfected, pieces of craftsmanship. From this point I am able to create from an inspiring idea. On the flip side, sometimes my mind becomes flooded with more designs than I can remember. Ideas come so quickly I can’t draw them fast enough.” “When I see someone wearing one of my designs, it takes me back to the time when the piece was created. Sometimes I can recall what I was eating or even the music I was listening to. I will remember the inspiration that helped create that design.” Ray has found his path or gift of self-expression that has blessed, enlightened, and influenced his life and others. Awareness of this special gift, fuels his energy and creativity. Inspiration helps to translate his creativity into artistic-visual expression. His creations stand as transitional figures from traditional to contemporary.  He creates something good as he is drawn toward untouched fields of yet-to-be-discovered imagery. Unknowingly he is creating a legacy from which generations can learn and grow. Ray has learned to appreciate and embrace the journey of life and its gifts.
