Early Native American Beaded Amulet/points/large necklace beads. I'm assuming
these beads went on a necklace and this pendant hung on that and that it was
sometime in the 19th century. I found this pile together in a small box in a
drawer of a local estate I purchased the entire contents of years ago. The
pendant is 3 3/8" wide and oobviously missing some of the outer beads which
appear to be shell or seeds of some sort. The points are high quality, sharp and
thin. These are unrelated items as the points are much older than the pendant
but they were kept together for possibly generations and found together by me.
nativedrawer

2 Large Native American spear points. Selling the two antique estate fresh
arrowheads, these were with some other rough smaller arrowheads, I'm confident
they were found not purchased. One is 4 1/16" long, the other 3.5" long, the top
one is really well made, the bottom one has a curve to it and apparently the
bottom part of the haft has a clean break that I believe was repaired long ago.
Selling both.
nativedrawer

sz7.75 Felicita Eustace (1927-2016) Cochiti pueblo sterling carved turquoise and coral ring 8 grams. Felicita Eustace Felicita was born in 1927 and raised at Cochiti Pueblo. She learned to make traditional pottery and storytellers from her parents. After her marriage during the World War II years, she moved to her husband Ben’s home in Zuni. Ben taught her some basics of jewelry-making. She sold her first ring to legendary Zuni trader C.G. Wallace. Over the years she become and accomplished jeweler in her own right, while developing a large following for her pottery and storytellers. “There are always more orders for my claywork than there’s time to do them,” she said. The Eustaces show strong respect for the materials and time-honored processes of their art. Felicita still makes her storytellers the traditional way. Her jewelry features an old family design copyrighted in the early 1960s: a domed, natural leave motif in sterling silver alongside a carved, bezeled and polished turquoise stone. Felicita and Ben have passed their respect for quality on to their 13 children, many of whom create their own pottery and jewelry.Daughter Bernadette Eustace says, “My parents told us that if we were going to do jewelry at all, we would have to do it their way, the right way. It wasn’t the designs they were talking about, it was the technical aspects of our work: setting stones, welds, engravings and so on. They were the ones who would be selling these items for us, so they would make sure that a certain standard of quality was being met.”All precious metals are tested and guaranteed,

6 3/8" Jared Chavez San Felipe Sterling silver heavily worked bracelet, clean
with no issues. Unmarked, purchased directly from the Artist in 2002. With
obvious quality, style, and workmanship. I've had quite a few both Richard and
Jared Chavez pieces that weren't marked but were purchased directly from them.

Jared J. Chavez
I began my journey as an artist learning to craft jewelry from my father,
Richard I Chavez, a renowned lapidary artist. I was not given exact direction as
to what to make but was only given the tools and instruction on how to use them.
Along the way my work would be critiqued by my father and I would continually
strive to evolve my designs and fabrication processes. He stressed the quality
of the design and construction making sure that every aspect of a piece looked
“finished” and no corners were cut.

Along with all that I learned in my father’s studio, I would receive a Bachelor
of Arts from Georgetown University in Studio Arts with a focus in Digital Art
and Printmaking. After I graduated, I would attend The Revere Academy of Jewelry
Arts’, Intensive Bench Jeweler Program in San Francisco. Each of these
educational experiences added a particular technical or visual aspect to my work
and would encourage me to continue to explore all the ways I could enhance my
designs.

My current work focuses on the reflective nature of polished silver. Though
fabrication, metal stamping, and some casting, I explore how light and
reflection interacts with the materials I utilize. I’ve found that polished
silver takes in the colors and the light of the world around, and through the
use of surface texture a dynamic play of light is created across the surface of
my designs. I further enhance my work thought the use of semi-precious stones
(agates, quartz, jades, etc.). However one of the most important qualities in my
selection of stones is often translucency. I’ve found that by allowing light to
shine though a stone an overall rich and warm effect is created in the overall
design.

Along with my yearly schedule of shows where I sell my designs, I’ve also made
it a point to educate the public about my work. Growing up in my father’s
studio, I always saw just how much of himself he put into his designs and how
sometimes he was met with disbelief as to how much work was put into his pieces.
I found this to be a similar case when I entered the business, as the general
public only sees the finished piece. For that reason, though in person
demonstrations and self-produced video mini-documentaries, we’ve made it a point
to show the skill, time, and passion that goes into every design. I continually
strive to evolve my work and hold every design to the exacting standards that my
father established when he created Chavez Studio 50 years ago.

All precious metals are tested and guaranteed, any Native American jewelry
referred to as Silver or Sterling is guaranteed to be a minimum of 90% (coin)
silver and possibly higher content. Anything marked is guaranteed to be what
it's marked, most bracelets are photographed on a 6" wrist (non hairy), rings
photographed on the appropriate sized finger when possible. With bracelets if
the measurement is not given in the description then inside circumference is
shown where the metal meets the number on the the cloth tape measure.

Jolene Eustace (Cochiti/Zuni) 18k/14k/sterling Carved Turquoise, coral, and
shell necklace. Jolene is an extremely talented artisan, the galleries that
carried her work seem to be mostly out of stock. I believe she has always been
quality over quantity, producing a very limited amount of jewelry as you can
tell she invests a lot more time/skill/money into her pieces than a large
percentage of todays Native American artisans'. Amazing piece as shown. Bottom
piece has 18k, 14k, and sterling(marked and tested), two side pieces 14k and
sterling. Approximately 17" total length, 144.6 grams total weight.

Jolene A. Eustace-Hanelt is respected as a master jeweler. She comes from a
family of jewelers and potters. She grew up helping her parents. In a cover
story for Indian Artist Magazine, Jolene shared: "I was eight when I made my
first piece. I got an order to do 100 tie tacks...That was over 100 bucks." She
bought a 10 speed bike with the money. She added, "Then I realized I could be
self-sufficient with my work as an artist...My work is my release. My work is my
meditation. It's a way of going back to Mother Earth." (Zuni/Cochiti, active
1985=-present: contemporary, gold, silver leaf, set stones jewelry, alabaster
sculptures)

(A note from Keishi Jewelers a retailer of her wearable art) Sharing our Keshi
"Jolene" story: Jolene is (obviously) quite a beautiful woman, and the staff of
Keshi commonly referred to her as "the jewelry dess." One day, someone fessed up
and told Jolene what she'd been nicknamed, and her reply was "I'm not the
jewelry dess, I MAKE jewelry FOR desses!" That response certainly endeared her
to us even more!

Jolene is a daughter of well-known artists Ben and Felicita Eustace. Ben, from
Zuni, was a jeweler who, in turn taught his Cochiti wife Felicita the art of
jewelry making. Felicita is also a potter, specializing in traditionally made
storytellers. The Eustaces passed their demand for quality on to their 13
children, including Jolene.

Jolene was educated at the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe. She
learned jewelry making from her parents and Hopi jeweler Duane Maktima. She has
been fabricating jewelry since the mid-80s.

Always seeking challenges, Jolene relocated to Essen, Germany in the mid-1990s
with her German-born former husband and infant son. Several times a week, she
commuted by train between her home and Europe’s renowned art school, the
Künstakadamie, in Düsseldorf. There she studied frawing and painting. Jolene is
a recipient of a fellowship from the Southwestern Association for Indian Arts
(SWAIA) and has worked with SWAIA’s mentor program, teaching jewelry techniques
to Native students.

Jolene’s jewelry is characterized by the quality of materials and its striking
individuality. She says, “Whoever said you have to play by the rules? I want my
jewelry to say something. It cannot be just jewelry. In my jewelry, design and
fabrication have to deal with personal experiences and traditional values
conflicting and collaborating with present society.”

Jolene’s parents once said to their children, “If you’re going to do jewelry at
tall, you have to do it our way, the right way.” It wasn’t the designs they were
talking about, it was the technical aspects of their work: setting stones,
welds, and engravings. From the time of their training, the Eustace kids learned
a respect for materials and techniques of their art.

Jolene’s hallmark is a stamped “JAE” and a trademark design which represents
sage that was designed by her Dad long ago.

Tribal Affiliation
Cochiti/Zuni

All precious metals are tested and guaranteed, any Native American jewelry
referred to as Silver or Sterling is guaranteed to be a minimum of 90% (coin)
silver and possibly higher content. 6.5" Mike Bird Romero San Juan and Taos Pueblo Agate and Onyx bracelet, fits up
to a 6.5" wrist with no issues.

Mike Bird-Romero is an accomplished jeweler known for his technical mastery,
innovation, and respect for historical techniques and designs. Born in 1946 in
San Juan Pueblo, his artistic interests were fostered in a household of
creativity. His grandmother Luteria Atencio was a respected potter whose works
are in the Smithsonian Institution. His mother Lorencita Bird was an
accomplished and well-known Pueblo textile artist and educator. After learning
some basic metal-working skills in junior high school, Mike began serious work
with metals in the late 1960s, teaching himself from books on the topic and
buying some old tools while making others. By the 1980s, Mike had emerged as a
major figure in contemporary Native American jewelry making. Selecting only the
best, most dramatic materials, Mike became known for bold, sculptural
interpretations of traditional designs.

Although he is largely a self-taught artist, Mike’s work has been influenced
both by extensive research into historic Navajo and Pueblo jewelry and by
observing great silversmiths who lived near his home including Mark Chee and
Julian Lovato. A true student of Pueblo tradition, Mike is inspired by old
photographs of Indians wearing historical jewelry. “I am trying to revive the
old jewelry,” he explains.

Mike’s hallmark, two small birds, is found on the back of his pieces.

Tribal Affiliation
San Juan and Taos Pueblo

All precious metals are tested and guaranteed, any Native American jewelry
referred to as Silver or Sterling is guaranteed to be a minimum of 90% (coin)
silver and possibly higher content.
