6.9" Jock Favour turquoise/ingot silver Navajo revival style cuff bracelet. Tested and guaranteed solid sterling silver, with weight and measurements in pictures, circa last quarter of the 20th century.Born and raised in Arizona, Jock Favour is well known for his old-style jewelry that pays tribute to the classic techniques of Native American jewelry-making. Jock achieves the antique look of his jewelry by combining older stones with ingot silver to create heavy, beautiful pieces. He describes his technique as follows:“I carve tufa stone molds and melt sterling silver. Most of my bracelets are made from square ingot bars, which are then hand-hammered or forged into the desired shape and thickness. These techniques were used historically during the period of 1868-1930. The first ingots were cast from silver U.S. and Mexican coins. Coin silver is 90% pure, while sterling silver is 92.5% pure. I have melted coins and find no difference in the ‘look’ from sterling silver. The mellowness of old coin silver comes from wear and oxidation. I use ingot bars because it allows me total flexibility of size and shape. It is a time-consuming technique not unlike a weaver hand-spinning her wool into yarn, but the look and feel of the pieces is worth the effort.”Jock comes from an artistic family with a love of the outdoors. He lives in Prescott, Arizona with his wife, Deborah.

After growing up around the art of jewelry and learning many skills from his father, Philbert’s natural talent in jewelry-making has given him a name of his own. He is now an expert at overlay, applique, stamp work, cutting, polishing and inlaying stones. After attending the Colorado Institute of Art, Philbert began working with his father part-time and is now a full-time silversmith specializing in sterling silver and 14K gold contemporary Navajo jewelry. He does excellent work and is gaining a reputation as an outstanding smith. He works with many different stones but mainly turquoise, coral and lapis. His silverwork is rooted in traditional Navajo designs and accented with fine, natural stones. Traditional motifs and pictorial subjects create modern, rather than overtly contemporary, designs. He is a member of Kinlichinii Natoh Dine’, the Redhouse Tobacco Clan. He is a fifth-generation silversmith. Born and raised on the Navajo Reservation in Arizona, Harry Morgan began casting jewelry at age seven. His mother Louise inspired him to make jewelry in the old style. The Navajo Tribe offered him a four-year scholarship in engineering, but being a rodeo cowboy was his dream, at the time. He ultimately returned to his passion for silversmithing, and became a silversmith in 1965. He spent most of his life in the Gallup, NM area, and at one point opened a jewelry supply store in Crownpoint, NM.He also operated a smithing studio, and employed many smiths who would also emulate the classic revival style. One of those employed was well-known silversmith Kirk Smith. Many of Harry Morgans stamps were inherited from his parents and uncle, or made by him.Harry Morgan was married to Navajo silversmith Betty Joe, and is the nephew of accomplished silversmiths Charlie Bitsue and Ike Wilson. Brother Henry Morgan is known for his exceptional sandcast pieces. Linda Marble, his sister, was also known for her sandcast pieces.
