Passt bis zu einem 7-Zoll-Handgelenk, das ist das Original, von Roderick von Hand gefertigt ... nicht das Massenprodukt, für das er entworfen hat andere später. Solche Stücke, die er selbst gemacht hat, findet man wirklich nicht oft auf dem freien Markt. Roderick Tenorio, Santo Domingo Pueblo, 1955-2013 Roderick Tenorio drückte in seiner Schmuckkollektion „Gentle Rain“ seine Wertschätzung für die Fruchtbarkeit der Erde aus. Rodericks Markensymbole bestehen aus 14-karätigem Gold und geätztem Sterlingsilber und stellen den Regen Katcina, die Sonne, den Mond und den heiligen Mais dar. Roderick gewann 2001 auf der Eight Northern Indian Pueblo Arts and Crafts Fair den Best of Show Award für einen herausragenden goldenen Concho-Gürtel, der im selben Jahr auf anderen Messen im Südwesten wichtige Auszeichnungen gewann. Roderick Tenorio war ein preisgekrönter Künstler aus Santo Domingo. Als Absolvent des Institute of American Indian Arts im Jahr 1981 war Roderick versiert in Bildhauerei, Malerei und Musik. Roderick trat nach der High School in die Armee ein und war zweieinhalb Jahre lang in Lewitsburg, Deutschland, stationiert, wo er in der Feldkommunikation arbeitete. Freunde wollten, dass Roderick den Dienst verlässt und als Sänger in ihrer Band in Deutschland bleibt. Roderick entschied sich, nach Santo Domingo zurückzukehren. Für Roderick war Santo Domingo nicht dasselbe. Er war im Dienst um 30 cm gewachsen und wurde bei seiner Rückkehr zu einer Bedrohung. Er fühlte sich entfremdet und fühlte sich nicht mehr fit. Er begann zu trinken und starrte schließlich auf eine Skulptur in Santa Fe. Ein Sicherheitsbeamter des Institute of American Indian Art (IAIA) fragte ihn, ob er nach dem Standesbeamten suche. Der Wachmann begleitete ihn zum Büro der Schule, wo er seine Tante bei der Arbeit antraf. Sie half ihm, den Papierkram zu erledigen, um mithilfe seines GI-Gesetzes ein Student zu werden. Roderick war einer der älteren Schüler. Er kaufte Alkohol für die anderen Schüler und „alle liebten ihn.“ Rodericks zweijähriges Studium an der IAIA war ein Wendepunkt in seinem Leben. Er begann, sich wirklich auf seine künstlerische Arbeit zu konzentrieren. Er schloss sein Studium mit einem Abschluss in dreidimensionaler Kunst ab. Er bearbeitete gern Stein oder Holz und verkaufte seine Skulpturen im Museumsshop. Roderick begann schon in jungen Jahren mit der Herstellung von Schmuck und fertigte im Alter von 13 Jahren „superfeine“ Heishi aus Schildkrötenpanzer, Türkis und Nadelpanzer an. Seine Großmutter hatte eine Schleif- und Poliermaschine, die mit der langsamen, gleichmäßigen Kraft eines alten Kühlschrankmotors betrieben wurde. Roderick verkaufte seinen Heishi an nahegelegene Galeristen in Santa Fe. Er erinnerte sich, dass er in Gallup mit Heishi aus besonderen Steinkombinationen sehr gut abschnitt. Er verkaufte alles und kam mit 1.500 Dollar nach Hause. In der High School fuhr Roderick einen neuen Pick-up, unterstützt durch seine Heishi-Verkäufe. Aufgrund der Auszeichnungen, die er bei Wettbewerben gewonnen hatte, kaufte Roderick einen vorgefertigten Stahlanhänger und verlegte seine Werkbank in ein 10 x 10 großes Studio. Bei der Retikulierung handelt es sich um einen sequentiellen Prozess, bei dem Silber mit einem Brenner ausreichend stark erhitzt wird, um eine dunkle, mattrote Farbe zu erhalten, um eine Oxidation des Kupfers auf der Oberfläche herbeizuführen. Das Silber wird dann in einer heißen Beizlösung abgeschreckt, eingeweicht, um die Oxidation zu entfernen, und mit Wasser gespült. Der Vorgang wird drei- bis fünfmal wiederholt, wobei die Wirksamkeit abnimmt, die Tiefe der Feinsilberoberfläche jedoch zunimmt. Je tiefer das reine Silber, desto ausgeprägter ist der Effekt. Die Oberflächenschicht knittert beim Abkühlen und zwar in einem anderen Tempo als die Schicht darunter. Der Prozess erzeugt eine Textur, die ins Auge fällt und den Wunsch weckt, die Oberfläche auszustrecken und zu berühren. Die silberne Netzstruktur sorgt für Kontrast, Textur und Tiefe. Es entsteht eine wunderschön gemusterte Oberfläche, die sich ideal für eine Vielzahl von Schmuckdesigns eignet. Roderick kombinierte Edelmetalle und Halbedelsteine auf eine ganz eigene Art und Weise. Tribal Expressions ist stolz darauf, einer der wenigen zu sein, der die erhabenen und substanziellen Kreationen von Roderick Tenorio aus Santo Domingo Pueblo repräsentiert. Roderick ist 2013 verstorben. Wir vermissen seine sanfte Stimme und die Art und Weise, wie er die Inspirationen hinter seinem schönen, coolen Schmuck erklärte. Andy Lee Kirk was a Master contemporary Native American artist of Isleta and Navajo heritage, who died tragically at the height of his career at the age of 54. He created beautiful gold and silver jewelry using the finest materials from 1970 to 2001. Born in 1947, he originally earned a degree in biology continuing on to work for the Fish and Wildlife and Forest Services. Andy had learned the basics of jewelry making at the University of New Mexico and with the urging of Navajo artist, Gibson Nez, he made the decision to become a full time jeweler. Andy Lee Kirk was a consummate artist with many fine skills. He did lapidary work, rolling his own beads, and had mastered many types of precious metalwork including lost wax and sand cast techniques, stamping, engraving, overlay and fabrication. His artistic innovation reached further than aesthetic beauty alone. His designs were brilliant a perfect balance between clean modern lines, meaningful symbolism, and bright southwestern colors such as lapis lazuli, turquoise, and red coral. He was the IACA Artist of the Year in 1996 and earned many other prestigious awards and accolades including First Place and Best of Division at Santa Fe Indian Market and Best of Category at the Inter-Tribal Indian Ceremonial in Gallup, NM.
