6.6" Vintage Tommy Singer Navajo sterling silver horses cuff bracelet. Tested and guaranteed solid sterling silver with weight and measurements in pictures. Circa third quarter of the 20th century. Fits up to a 6.5" wrist without adjustment, though .25" or more of careful adjustment is typically very simple. Any adjustment will change the gap size of course which is shown in the pictures. TOMMY SINGER (Navajo b. 1940 2014) Tommy grew up in a small community of Dilcon on the Navajo reservation. Tommy Singer was a Navajo silversmith who specialized in chip-inlay jewelry. His inlaid turquoise, coral, and silver pieces incorporated traditional Navajo designs. Singer gained acclaim as the originator of the chip inlay design. Because of this innovation, Tommy is considered by many as one of the greatest contemporary Indian jewelry silversmiths of our time. Even though he was world renowned, he worked on the Navajo reservation in a small studio surrounded with his family and other tribal members. The Singer family has been involved in silversmithing, stone and beadwork for a very long time, handing the art down from one generation to another. Tommy was a silversmith for over 50 years. He learned the art of silversmithing from his father when he was just 7 years old. His Father Tsinnigine Hathali was a Navajo Medicine man. Tommy incorporates many traditional sandpainting and rug designs of the Navajo People into his jewelry. Tommy began creating jewelry full-time at the age of 21. His early works were done in the silver overlay technique. His work soon began to feature Turquoise stones. While working with scrap turquoise chips, Tommy pioneered the technique of Chip inlay used by thousands of artists to this day. For many years Tommy and his brothers created Jewelry using the Chip inlay style. Later in life, Tommy had returned to his roots by creating Exquisite Silver Overlaid Jewelry with intricate designs. His current work often includes 14 Karat Gold Overlaid on Silver. Tommy also carved storyteller scenes and silver bead necklaces with tremendous skill. When asked about his work, Singer said, "Every piece is made with the various meanings from my traditional ways - the Navajo way of living. My father was asilversmith, too. He taught me, and wanted me to continue this trade. It was my father‘s dream that I learn to silversmith so that I could continue his beliefs." His work is well known internationally and is featured in a number of Indian art publications. One can easily recognize Tommys work. He marks his finished pieces with “T. Singer or with “T and a crescent moon. Whether Tommy created a bolo tie, buckle, ring, necklace, pendant, or bracelet, he stated that, “All my jewelry is made to satisfy my customer. Each piece is unique and is made very different. I try hard to make different styles and designs of my jewelry. His legacy of work will continue to live on for many years. In fact, Rosita (Rose) and the family have continued Tommys legacy by creating jewelry with his designs. Tommy and his wife Rose came up with a new hallmark before his death which is “T&R Singer. Once all of the items he made are sold, the family will be signing the new jewelry with the T&R Singer hallmark. His legacy of work will continue to live on for many years. Read less

Thank you so much<br>for your time and consideration!<br><br>Lester Jackson was born on the Navajo reservation at Indian Wells, Arizona May<br>5, 1951. He was raised there by his parents Stella and Ghee Thomas along with<br>his seven brothers and sisters. As a young boy he watched his mother, Stella,<br>weave tradition rugs which she sold to provide for the family. By the age of<br>six, he was sent to boarding school where he finished the 8th grade. Later he<br>traveled to Oklahoma to complete high school. During this time he spent nine<br>months away and summers at home on the reservation. Preferring life on the<br>reservation, he set off as a young man in 1972 for Holbrook, Arizona determined<br>to learn silversmithing so he could work from home. He began this journey by<br>first learning to work with silver by cutting out piece work from sheets of<br>silver. Through observation and the use of traditional hand made tools, it<br>wasn’t long before Lester picked up the craft and perfected it. If you ask<br>Lester he will humbly tell you he is still learning. To this day Lester still<br>makes jewelry for Indian traders off the reservation and enjoys the independence<br>of working out of his home while spending time with his wife Sally, six children<br>and seven grandchildren. A lifetime spent studying and working in the Northwest Coast Native style is reflected in the diverse body of Greg Horners work. With work ranging from intricately engraved silver bracelets, cast glass sculpture to monumental totem carvings, Greg continues to expand his artistic voice. A life-long Alaskan, Greg was introduced to carving at Alaska Indian Arts in 1974. Apprenticed to some of the finest Native and non-native artists in Alaska, he developed a foundation to further explore this art form in wood, metal and print media. “This work evolves out of my own personal experiences and interpretation of traditional Native art forms and imagery. I strive toward originality and the level of craftsmanship that is the legacy of the Northwest Coast Native art. Greg pursued a formal art education in Seattle, graduating from Cornish Institute of Art in 1987. Not an Alaskan Native, Greg was given a Tlingit name, “Skin Dei, at a Potlach memorial in honor of his mentor, Tlingit elder George Lewis. Greg works year-round in Haines on private commissions and work for private galleries throughout Southeast Alaska. Sehr alte und sehr schöne Arbeit, wahrscheinlich die älteste Uhrenmanschette, die die meisten von uns finden können. Mit einer wahrscheinlich originalen Benrus Windup-Uhr aus der Zeit, die funktioniert. 77,3 Gramm, 1 1/8 Zoll Abstand, passend für ein 6 5/8 Zoll großes Handgelenk. Ursprünglich wahrscheinlich von einem Mann mit kleineren Handgelenken getragen, aber die heutigen Uhren sind größer, sodass es sich jetzt um Unisex-Uhren handelt.

6 5/8" Battle Mountain Turquoise Navajo cuff bracelet Richard Henry Yazzie. Historic Battle Mtn. Blue Gem Turquoise The Blue Gem Turquoise Mine was located in the Copper Basin area southwest of Battle Mountain, Nevada, USA. Production of this turquoise mine started about 1934 and continued until the 1970's. Blue Gem Turquoise is still some of the finest turquoise ever found, and unlike most turquoise mines, (in which the majority mined is chalky and only usable if stabilized) most of the turquoise found there was of gem-quality. There is a distinctive aqua color that some people associate with Blue Gem turquoise, although it produced a great variety of colors, especially when intense blue was combined with deep green in one stone.The mine no longer exists due to the extensive copper (and gold) mining operations of the Copper Canyon Mining Company (all of the copper was extracted by 1968). Doc Wilson, one of the previous owners of the Lone Mountain Turquoise Mine, owned the Blue Gem Turquoise Mine from 1938 - 1981 when he leased it to Lee Hand. Lee Hand owned and operated the mine until 1970 when he sold his interest to the Elquist family of Battle Mountain, Nevada.Lee Hand knew the Patania Family in Arizona and C.G.Wallace in Zuni and regularly supplied those traders with turquoise for Navajo and Zuni carvings and jewelry. While the Blue Gem Turquoise mine was very prolific at one time, today it is considered extremely rare, valuable and collectible turquoise. Most of the "finished" Blue Gem turquoise today is in private collections and museums, rarely offered for sale.The Blue Gem Turquoise mine was located deep underground, accessed by tunnels as deep as 800 feet. This is of interest because the Blue Gem Turquoise Mine and the Bisbee Turquoise Mine in Bisbee, Arizona are the only two Turquoise mines (that we know of) where turquoise was found that deep in the earth. One of the rarest forms to see in Blue Gem TurquoiseJewelry is the Pyrite Variety. Pyrite-bearing quartz veins are closely associated with this turquoise although pyrite in Blue Gem Turquoise is still unusual to see. Durango Silver has some examples of this pyrite material in Turquoise Jewelry. Another interesting fact about both Blue Gem Turquoise and Bisbee Turquoise being found so deep underground as that both deposits produced some of the hardest and truest blue Turquoise ever found. Nice, well made bracelet. Contemporary bracelet, hardly worn. Born and raised on the Navajo Reservation near Teesto, Arizona, Billy Betoney tended livestock for his parents until he entered primary education in the local boarding school. He transferred to Oklahoma and enrolled in a five-year program, where his art interest grew while watching students create works of art using pencil. He began drawing with pencil, not knowing he could make money as an artist. During the mid 1970s, Billys wife, Betty, taught him the art of silversmithing as a way to ease the pain she felt after losing her mother. Being artistic in nature, he was a natural at the craft. Soon he was making rings, bracelets, and eventually large necklaces. Betty and Billy Betoney found jewelry-making to be satisfying, especially after selling their first piece in Second Mesa, Arizona. With more experience, Billy no longer needed to draw his patterns ahead of time. The designs were visionary. He began to incorporate his mothers rug designs into the jewelry he made. He cut 1/8-inch-high silver strips and formed them to the desired shapes, creating a unique, original form of design. In the late 1980s, Billy tried entering Santa Fe Indian Market on five separate occasions and was denied each time. Determined to show his work, a close relative allowed him to share a booth at Indian Market in 1989. That year he won "Most Creative Design - Any Class, and continued to win numerous first- and second-place prizes in consecutive years. Billy Betoneys style is unmistakable, with his use of duster, petite point, diamond-shape, oval, and round stones combined with rug designs formed from silver strips. Billy continues to concentrate on new ideas and designs for his work. He says, “As time continues, I will use the skills God has given me. I don‘t plan on relaxing; if I do time will leave me behind.

Native American jewelry artisan Kirk Smith, or Kiyaa Alani Shush Dine (his Dine tribe name, meaning “towering house bear people clan), created a long-lasting legacy in a tragically short life. His work is highly regarded for its quality craftsmanship and his use of stones of only the highest quality and richest coloring. Kirks pieces, primarily his concho belts for which he was best known, have long been coveted and collectible, with their value only increasing as a result of his unexpected, early death. His story is an interesting one. HIS LIFE: Kirk Smith first began working with silver at around age 7 in his grandfathers hidden workshop, that according to Smiths interview with Perry Null Trading, “you would not see it unless you knew it was there. His grandfather also made jewelry and Kirk used to aid him by first learning to run the bellow to heat the charcoal that would allow his grandfather to work with the silver at high temperatures, and then eventually began to work with beads and bracelets and necklaces himself. He later used these primitive skills to craft jewelry for his uncle, who would exchange clothes and shoes for his pieces. In 1972, Kirk struck out on his own, primarily working in silver cast work, until the price of silver went up in 1974 and he went to work doing different things like working in the mine or a refinery in Galveston. He returned to jewelry making in the early 1980s when his mother got sick and he desired to be nearer to her. Thats when his craft took a turn. HIS MENTORS: Of course, his grandfather was his earliest influence, and perhaps the most profound on Kirk as a person, but when it comes to his craftsmanship, the game-changer for him was his brother-in-law. Kirks sister was married to an artisan named Harry Morgan, a well-known name in the world of Native American jewelry. Harry was known for his intricate stamp work and the way he would style his silver to give it an antique look, believing that overly polished silver hid the detailing and the beauty of a piece. It was Harry who really taught Kirk about design and style in terms of his craft. HIS CRAFT: Kirk is probably best known for his concho belts, like the one we found in Audreys closet, that we thought was too beautiful not to share with yall after being tucked away for too long. He was known for his unrelenting insistence on working his silver by hand, resulting in beautiful pieces of heavy silver and high-grade stones. In addition to concho belts, Kirk crafted gorgeous statement cuff bracelets with turquoise and red coral and some of the most striking blue lapis youve ever seen, as well as some rings, pendants, earrings, and even a few squash blossoms. As we mentioned, his work is highly collectible, not only because of its stunning beauty, but because sadly, there wont be any more made; Kirk was tragically killed in 2012. HIS DEATH: On September 17, 2012, Kirk was in an altercation in a parking lot with a young man whose truck had struck Kirks vehicle as the man was attempting to back into a parking spot. When the driver, who was intoxicated, tried to flee the scene, Kirk jumped onto the hood of the mans truck. When he was eventually unable to maintain his grip, Kirk was flung from the moving vehicle and suffered injuries which resulted in his death in an Albuquerque hospital a little while later. The driver did succeed in fleeing the scene, but eventually collided with another truck and a barrier on Interstate 25 and was apprehended after a violent struggle with police; he was found to have had a blood alcohol concentration of 0.16, twice the legal limit. Incredibly, the driver, who was 16 at the time, was only sentenced to 90 days in a treatment center and two years probation. As you might imagine, Kirks surviving family does not feel that justice was done in the wake of his death, but they are carrying on his legacy in a positive way despite the circumstances.
