sz13 Mitchel Sockyma Hopi 14k gold sterling silver Kokopelli men's ring. Nice ring from the last quarter of the 20th century. Mitchell Sockyma was born in Hopiland in 1942 and spent his childhood in the third Mesa village of Hotevilla. In 1973, he landed a job at the Hopi Crafts Shop, a workshop and studio new his home where his two older brothers were also silversmiths. Over the years, Mitchell has expanded his range of skills, including soldering 14k gold onto silver, which embellishes the traditional Hopi symbols he uses. As a member of the Corn Clan, his use of corn stalks is important, as is the Kokopelli, turtles, bear paws, and claws and wave designs. Unlike many other Hopi artists, he combines several of these design elements into one piece. He also incorporates brightly colored gemstones, natural turquoise, lapis and coral into the design. Considered one of the finest contemporary Hopi jewelers today, Mitchell has won numerous awards for his stunning pieces’ from the Northern Arizona Museum and Gallup, New Mexico’s Annual Intertribal Ceremonial. Circa fourth quarter of the 20th century. 46" long. Frank Yellowhorse was an acclaimed Navajo artist known for his bold and colorful geometric inlay jewelry. Frank was born on February 14, 1933 in Holbrook, Arizona to parents Arthur and Anna Beasley. He was part of the Towering House People Clan. He served in the US Navy during the Korean War for four years.In addition to creating beautiful jewelry, Frank was the co-founder and operator of the famous Chief Yellowhorse Trading Post, which is located in Lupton, Arizona, on Interstate 40 at the New Mexico border. The Chief Yellowhorse Trading Post started in the 1950s as a roadside stand where the Yellowhorse family sold Navajo rugs and petrified wood to tourists passing by. In the 1960s, Frank and his brother Juan "Chief Yellowhorse" built out the trading post, which included jewelry, and added gas pumps for those adventuring on Route 66. Frank was a kind and generous man who enjoyed interacting with the wide variety of people he met at the trading post.Frank and his wife, Elsie had eight children. Two of their sons are talented and well-known jewelers, Alvin Yellowhorse and Bryon Yellowhorse. Frank taught Alvin and Bryon the art of silversmithing, and they both have excelled in advancing Frank’s legacy of inlay jewelry, each in their own unique way.Frank passed away on August 13, 2020 at the age of 87.

Dan Simplicio Zuni sterling silver snake belt buckle turquoise/branch coral. Tested and guaranteed solid sterling silver with weight and measurements in pictures. Fits up to a 1" belt, circa third quarter of the 20th century. Unmarked, attributed. Dan Simplicio (1917-1969) is best known for innovative turquoise and coral settings as well as his impeccable silver work. Dan worked at C.G. Wallace’s trading post and ultimately Wallace became one of the biggest Simplicio collectors. He used branch coral it its natural form, which was unheard of during this time period. He innovated the natural coral and turquoise style of jewelry while simultaneously excelling with his silver work. He was also a master of inlay, which he did only in his formative years of which we have few examples of today. Simplicio worked with silver in a very interesting way, a way that his son credits to his time overseas in WWII. He was influenced by the French, German and Italian use of leaf patterns. It is this leaf work that sets Simplicio’s pieces apart from traditional Zuni work.

Fits a 1.5" belt.Award winning Kewa Pueblo artist Mitchell Calabaza has been making excellent Southwest Indian Jewelry since the 1970s.Residents of Kewa Pueblo have taken advantage of their proximity to trade routes since ancient times to sell their handmade jewelry and pottery. Before the Spanish arrived in 1540, they were actively involved in the trade of turquoise mined at the nearby Cerrillos mine. When the Spanish established the Camino Real, the trade route that connected Mexico City with Santa Fe, Kewa Pueblo was one of the stopping points along the way. In the early 20th Century, both the railroad and Route 66 traversed the Pueblo. This has given artists a venue to sell their wares and allowed them to maintain their traditional religious practices and social structure. Almost every family has at least one member involved in the production of jewelry making.Calabaza was born in 1949 and lives at Kewa Pueblo today (formerly known as Santo Domingo Pueblo). He is married to Marie Christine Trujillo. He has been an award winner at Santa Fe Indian Market and has exhibited there and at Eight Northern Pueblos Arts & Crafts Show and at the Museum of New Mexico portal display site in Santa Fe. The artist‘s hallmark is made up of the letters CLBZ under a large M which was first used by him in 1977.
