Riley Polequaptewa Hopi Overlay bolo tie sterling bolo tie 40" long, weight and measurements in pics, solid sterling. Riley Polequaptewa has been an active silversmith since the 1970s. His specialty is the traditional Hopi silver overlay technique promoted by the Hopi Arts & Crafts Co-op Guild which was formed in 1947, after World War II, when returning Hopi servicemen were trained at a silversmithing school founded under the G.I. bill. The late Paul Saufkie, Sr. was the technical instructor and the late Fred Kabotie, noted Hopi artist and designer, taught design. Although many techniques of silver work were used, the overlay style gradually emerged as the dominate style. This simple, unique, elegant jewelry is now considered essentially the Hopi style of jewelry. The Guild‘s purpose is to produce, purchase, promote, and sell handcrafts and jewelry. The Hopi Arts and Crafts Co-op Guild has its own building on Second Mesa, Arizona, next to the Hopi Cultural Center & Museum. Any craftsman, potter, basket maker, weaver or silversmith can have his or her work displayed and sold there. Half the building is devoted to work benches and supplies for the silversmiths.

Solid sterling, I think these coins might be solid sterling recasts, or he could have polished and oxidized them. Not sure. Solid silver bracelet by well respected Navajo silvermith. Paul Livingston was born in 1954 and has spent his entire life on the Navajo Church Rock Reservation, where he grew up watching with fascination as his silversmith Uncle crafted raw metal and stone into beautiful jewelry. Through trial and error and a great deal of help from his Uncle, Paul became an accomplished young jewelry maker. By the time he was twenty-two he was ready to launch himself full time into silversmithing. Paul Livingstonis an acclaimed Navajo silversmith who favors substance in his metal work and high-quality, natural stones in all his settings. Today, nearly forty years later, Paul is a nationally known and collected jewelry artist. He is particularly known for a style of jewelry most silversmiths shy away from a technique known as ‘cluster and row work where multiple tiny stones are used together to form a delicate, colorful designs in jewelry. Paul is happy to work with the little stones, even the tiny round “snake eye ones and is renowned for how exquisitely aligned the stone clusters and rows of stones are on his pieces. Even at his age Paul continues to experiment with new jewelry techniques and design styles. He especially enjoys working unusual textures created on metals and will often incorporate a new surface finish or other design application to see if these changes might enhance the jewelrys appearance and appeal. Though his forte has always been more traditional even vintage looking Navajo style jewelry, his contemporary designs are also in high demand. Paul Livingston creates beautiful jewelry using stones that arent often found in Native American jewelry. The intricate ‘saw work designs of his pieces are especially difficult to achieve but so very visually appealing in Pauls finished work.

He is completely self-taught. Unlike many jewelers, he is both a lapidary and a silversmith, and fabricates all of his jewelry by himself. Nothing is cast or manufactured. He is an Elder in the Little River Band of Ottawa Indians, but also considers himself part of Gods Universal Family. His greatest pride comes from his work with animals and caring for the land. ‘I am doubly blessed. I have been able to pursue my passion for art as a career which has enabled me to live the life I have dreamed of. No one could ask for more‘." Art Deco Sterling Danecraft floral bracelet. Weight and measurements in pics. No issues. In the early 1900s, as Italy was continuing to become the world leader in
fashion, the Primavera family worked as jewelry artisans in the beautiful area
of Pescara, Italy. In 1918, the family founded Primavera Designs and by 1921 it
had become the largest jewelry company in the Abruzzo region. It was there that the family became well known throughout the region for their
ability to design and make jewelry for royalty and wealthy families. Often one
of the Primavera jewelry artisans would go directly into the home of a patron to
design and reproduce a cherished object of art into jewelry. This continued in Italy until 1934, when Mr. Victor Primavera, Sr. immigrated to
the United States and incorporated his company in Rhode Island; the jewelry
capital of the United States. Primavera Designs now had a United States
division, known as Danecraft, with a small factory and Mr. Victor Primavera, Sr.
heading up the design and model making teams. His forte in designing product was always timeliness. He often said that it was
easy to design a piece to be shown in a museum, but it took research and talent
to design product that would be worn by a woman with fashion sense. Although the candlelight has been replaced by fluorescent light and some of the painstaking handwork has been supplemented by modern machinery, the rich and
beautiful handcrafted look of distinction continues.

Since 1934, Danecraft has been privately owned and operated by the Primavera
family.

GEORG JENSEN (1866 - 1935) When the 37-year-old Georg Jensen, with both an apprenticeship as goldsmith and sculptor behind him, made silver his way of living by establishing his silver smithy in Copenhagen in 1904, it was with the fine craftsmans understanding and appreciation of the material combined with the accomplished artists sense of form. Through his childhood in the picturesque surroundings of Raadvad north of Copenhagen Georg Jensen was inspired to become an artist. He succeeded in becoming both sculptor and ceramist but it was by way of his talent as a silver smith that he achieved the most remarkable recognition. The Georg Jensen Silversmithy created some of the most original and epoch-defining jewelry, hollowware and cutlery patterns. At Georg Jensens death in 1935 the smithy was acknowledged as one of the most important silversmithies in the world. Georg Jensen was instrumental in defining the character of the twentieth century Scandinavian Design by drawing on Danish traditions and infusing them with a progressive design rationale. He rejected the popular taste of the time for romantic and historicist ornamentation and ostentation, instead embracing the avant-garde Art Nouveau style with its simple organic forms and craft-based approach to production. Georg Jensen was a sensitive artist endowed with a great talent which made it possible for him to turn his vision into reality.

Weight and measurements in pics, appears unworn. Native American jewelry artisan Kirk Smith, or Kiyaa Alani Shush Dine (his Dine tribe name, meaning “towering house bear people clan), created a long-lasting legacy in a tragically short life. His work is highly regarded for its quality craftsmanship and his use of stones of only the highest quality and richest coloring. Kirks pieces, primarily his concho belts for which he was best known, have long been coveted and collectible, with their value only increasing as a result of his unexpected, early death. His story is an interesting one. HIS LIFE: Kirk Smith first began working with silver at around age 7 in his grandfathers hidden workshop, that according to Smiths interview with Perry Null Trading, “you would not see it unless you knew it was there. His grandfather also made jewelry and Kirk used to aid him by first learning to run the bellow to heat the charcoal that would allow his grandfather to work with the silver at high temperatures, and then eventually began to work with beads and bracelets and necklaces himself. He later used these primitive skills to craft jewelry for his uncle, who would exchange clothes and shoes for his pieces. In 1972, Kirk struck out on his own, primarily working in silver cast work, until the price of silver went up in 1974 and he went to work doing different things like working in the mine or a refinery in Galveston. He returned to jewelry making in the early 1980s when his mother got sick and he desired to be nearer to her. Thats when his craft took a turn. HIS MENTORS: Of course, his grandfather was his earliest influence, and perhaps the most profound on Kirk as a person, but when it comes to his craftsmanship, the game-changer for him was his brother-in-law. Kirks sister was married to an artisan named Harry Morgan, a well-known name in the world of Native American jewelry. Harry was known for his intricate stamp work and the way he would style his silver to give it an antique look, believing that overly polished silver hid the detailing and the beauty of a piece. It was Harry who really taught Kirk about design and style in terms of his craft. HIS CRAFT: Kirk is probably best known for his concho belts, like the one we found in Audreys closet, that we thought was too beautiful not to share with yall after being tucked away for too long. He was known for his unrelenting insistence on working his silver by hand, resulting in beautiful pieces of heavy silver and high-grade stones. In addition to concho belts, Kirk crafted gorgeous statement cuff bracelets with turquoise and red coral and some of the most striking blue lapis youve ever seen, as well as some rings, pendants, earrings, and even a few squash blossoms. As we mentioned, his work is highly collectible, not only because of its stunning beauty, but because sadly, there wont be any more made; Kirk was tragically killed in 2012. HIS DEATH: On September 17, 2012, Kirk was in an altercation in a parking lot with a young man whose truck had struck Kirks vehicle as the man was attempting to back into a parking spot. When the driver, who was intoxicated, tried to flee the scene, Kirk jumped onto the hood of the mans truck. When he was eventually unable to maintain his grip, Kirk was flung from the moving vehicle and suffered injuries which resulted in his death in an Albuquerque hospital a little while later. The driver did succeed in fleeing the scene, but eventually collided with another truck and a barrier on Interstate 25 and was apprehended after a violent struggle with police; he was found to have had a blood alcohol concentration of 0.16, twice the legal limit. Incredibly, the driver, who was 16 at the time, was only sentenced to 90 days in a treatment center and two years probation. As you might imagine, Kirks surviving family does not feel that justice was done in the wake of his death, but they are carrying on his legacy in a positive way despite the circumstances. Marked or unmarked as shown in pics, weight and other measurements in pics. Sorry but my jewelry is stored in a secure location and cannot be accessed for more pictures, videos, or measurements until sold. If you look at pictures/description your question should be answered. Thank you so much for your time and consideration! All precious metals are tested and guaranteed. A Native American jewelry piece referred to as "silver" or "ingot" is guaranteed to be at least 90% silver. Bracelets are photographed on a 6" women‘s wrist.
