This is part of a large collection of artifacts I'm helping liquidate, all purchased from reputable sources over the last quarter of the 20th century, money was no object. I'm pricing everything at a small fraction of what it cost from the galleries/auctions. Just the displays alone must've cost a small fortune. They come in a very fancy Steel/acrylic display case, case measuring 5.25" tall x 3.5" wide, some wear/adhesive residue to case, Artifact is 2.5" tall x 2.25" wide and appears to have some loss at the base, possibly part of something larger.

Arthur Bishop Jeffreys (American/Texas, 1892-1970) large Texas landscape painting. 22" x 29" canvas 28" x 35" framed. No damage or notable issues. Nice old painting from the second quarter of the 20th century. Arthur Bishop Jeffreys, 1892-1970, was born in Hillsboro, Texas. He had a mixed career as a painter and newspaper journalist. Starting late to paint in 1923, when in his early thirties, he was employed, 1942 through 1969, by one newspaper, which changed its name three times: the Tyler Morning Telegraph, Tyler Courier-Times, and Courier-Times-Telegraph. He had moved to Tyler, Texas from Dallas in 1936, and for the newspaper worked primarily as a proofreader. However, using the name Arthur Bishop, he also wrote feature articles and shorter columns. As a young man, his destiny lay elsewhere, he was employed by the Missouri, Kansas and Texas Railway Company, apparently in Dallas, where he worked until 1918 as a road master's clerk, secretary to the chief engineer, and secretary to the general manager. Though he briefly studied in New York with Frederick Jarvis, Jeffreys was essentially self-taught. He died in Tyler, and is buried there. He was a member of the Art Students League, New York City; Chicago Art League, Illinois; Dallas Art Association; and Society of Independent Artists. His work is in the collections of the Hilton Hotel, Waco; and La Grange College, Georgia. His landscapes appeared in magazines including Holland's and Literary Digest in 1926. His 1927 painting of Charles Lindbergh's Spirit of St. Louis, autographed by the flyer, sold for $2,000 at an auction in New York City. Jeffrreys was able to make money from his similarly autographed paintings of World War I ace fighter pilot Eddie Rickenbacker, and Amelia Earhart, the first woman aviator to cross the Atlantic. Shows with Jeffreys work include the Exhibition of Texas Artists, Nashville Museum of Art, Tennessee (1927 prize); and Painters of Texas 1900-1950, Museums of Abilene (1989).

Louis-Ernest Barrias (French, 1841 - 1905) Ferdinand Barbedienne (1810-1892) Diminutive Bronze footed vase with Child hanging from vines. A Barrias work cast by Barbedienne. A fantastic piece from the last quarter of the 19th century that everyone has room for. 4.25" tall x 4" handle to handle, solid bronze, extremely heavy for it's size, great patina. Louis-Ernest Barrias (13 April 1841 – 4 February 1905) was a French sculptor of the Beaux-Arts school. In 1865 Barrias won the Prix de Rome for study at the French Academy in Rome. Barrias was involved in the decoration of the Paris Opéra and the Hôtel de la Païva in the Champs-Élysées. His work was mostly in marble, in a Romantic realist style indebted to Jean-Baptiste Carpeaux. He was born in Paris into a family of artists. His father was a porcelain-painter, and his older brother Félix-Joseph Barrias a well-known painter. Louis-Ernest also started out as a painter, studying under Léon Cogniet, but later took up sculpture with Pierre-Jules Cavelier as teacher. In 1858 he was admitted to the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris, where his teacher was François Jouffroy. In 1878 he was made a knight of the Legion of Honour, an officer in 1881, and a commander in 1900. Barrias replaced Dumont at the Institut de France in 1884 then succeeded Cavelier as professor at the École des Beaux-Arts. In 1900-03 he served on the Council for the National Museums. Among his students were Josep Clarà, Charles Despiau, Henri Bouchard, Fernand Hamar, and Victor Ségoffin. Ferdinand Barbedienne (1810-1892) was the inspiration and driving force behind one of the most important French art foundries. He pioneered the use of mounts and, more commonly, bronze sculpture including figures and animals. Barbedienne produced catalogues of bronze reproductions of Greek and Roman classical sculpture and experimented with champlève and cloisonné enamels during the third quarter of the century. Barbedienne exhibited several pieces of furniture at the 1855 Paris Exhibition including an ormolu mounted oak dressing table and an ormolu mounted ebony veneered bookcase. Both pieces were executed in his favoured Renaissance revival style for furniture. Furniture with mounts signed by Barbedienne is extremely rare. The Barbedienne foundry handled the casting of numerous national monuments and architectural schemes. Ferdinand Barbedienne himself also took an active part in the promotion of contemporary sculpture and became one of the founders for Davis d'Angers' medallions as well as much of Rude's sculpture. His signature varied from hand written capitals to stamp in capitals, usually F. Barbedienne, Fondeur or BARBEDIENNE PARIS. In 1839 Barbedienne collaborated with the inventor Achille Collas who had succeeded in enlarging and reducing works of art to arbitrary sizes by a simple mathematical calculation, allowing the accurate reduction of classical and contemporary marbles for the purpose of reproduction in bronze. In 1850 Barbedienne was commissioned to furnish the Paris town hall for which he was awarded with the 'medaille d' honneur' at the Paris Exposition Universelle in 1855. Barbedienne's awards: Paris, 1878; 'Grand Prix', 'Grande Médaille d'Or', 'Diplôme d'honneur' , and 28 'Médailles de Coopérateurs'. Vienna 1873; 2 'Diplômes d'Honneur', 'Médailles de Progrès', and 25 'Médailles de Coopérateurs'. Paris 1867: 'Jure Rapporteur (Hors Concours)'. London 1862; 3 Medals for Excellence. Paris 1855; 'Grande Médaille d'Honneur'. London 1851; 2 Council Medals. A somewhat confusing piece made by an artist that seemed to be able to think for oneself and combine many styles but didn't care to sign such a work of art. A fantastic Mid century style to the silver mounting which I have no way of know is period or not, really good lapidiary work on a level that has never really been common in the US, but the scene sure reminds me of an Arizona mountain landscape. All hand done approaching micromosaic level. Tests sterling, completely unmarked. 29 grams 3.5" tall x 2.5" wide. Vintage Tommy Jackson Navajo Sterling multistone Overlay Style bracelet. 7" very high quality with no issues 43.5 grams .5" marked and tested sterling. Tommy Jackson was born in Phoenix, Arizona on January20, 1958 but grew up in the heart of Navajo land in Chinle, Arizona. He went to high school in Chinle, the town at the mouth of the legendary Canyon de Chelly—a stronghold for 19th century Navajo, known then as the “Lords of the Land”. Steeped in mythology, this landscape echoes the strength and beauty in the Navajo bedrock of beliefs—foremost of those is responsibility to family and clan. A husband, father, and grandfather, Tommy is also a world-renowned gold and silversmith, his award-winning pieces on exhibit in museums and treasured in collections around the world. As a premier Navajo Silversmith he counted amongst those few known as “The Supersmiths.” Jackson started silversmithing in 1973, learning at the bench of his parents, renowned silversmiths Gene and Martha Jackson. (He is also the nephew of Dan Jackson, another well-known silversmith.) However, it was his mother who urged him to pursue a degree, and he followed her footsteps into education, eventually teaching elementary school at Wide Ruins on the Reservation. But jewelry-making called to him in his spare time, in the after-hours, in the late night, and by 1988 he was winning prestigious awards, and has continued winning nearly every year since at the big shows, including Santa Fe Indian Market and the Heard. He was also chosen as Navajo Tribal representative for the Salt Lake City Winter Olympics. A striking example of Tommy’s pieces is the motif of Navajo rug designs. He sometimes works these patterns directly into the gold or silver; or he inlays stones in visually stunning creations that reflect the complexity of Navajo tapestries. Other pieces are a declaration of his passion for high-grade American turquoise. These pieces are all about the great stone. He will use heavy-gauge silver, and in keeping with the old style tradition then chisel or hand-stamp, all with an eye of showcasing a great old American turquoise stone such as Bisbee, Morenci, Lander Blue or Candelaria. He is known for integrating traditional Navajo designs with a modern flair, working with gold and silver and a variety of precious and semi-precious stones. He has won numerous awards for his beautiful and unique jewelry from the Heard Museum Show in Phoenix, Santa Fe Indian Market and The Museum of Northern Arizona, to name a few including First at Indian Market, as recently as 2014. He and his wife, Marie, who does much of the stone-cutting for his pieces, have pieces featured in national publications.

Large Pre-Mayan Olmec Articulating Arms Pre-Columbian figure. 10" tall x 7" wide, very old restoration on one shoulder and to neck I believe, very old stable fissures at hips. Rare, museum quality with unusual complex articulating arms likely intended to hold various size offerings. The arms move smoothly and fluidly with no evidence of a string as seen with simpler versions of these. This was made by a master potter approx 2500 years ago. Authenticity guaranteed. This is part of a large collection of artifacts I'm helping liquidate, all purchased from reputable sources over the last quarter of the 20th century, money was no object. I'm pricing everything at a small fraction of what it cost from the galleries/auctions. Olmec, the first elaborate pre-Columbian civilization of Mesoamerica (c. 1200–400 BCE) and one that is thought to have set many of the fundamental patterns evinced by later American Indian cultures of Mexico and Central America, notably the Maya and the Aztec. The Nahuatl (Aztec) name for these people, Olmecatl, or Olmec in the modern corruption, means “rubber people” or “people of the rubber country.” That term was chosen because the Olmecs extracted latex from Panama rubber trees (Castilla elastica) growing in the region and mixed it with the juice of a local vine (Ipomoea alba, moonflower) to create rubber. The chief Olmec sites are San Lorenzo, La Venta, Laa de los Cerros, and Tres Zapotes in what is now southern Mexico. Much of what is known about the Olmecs was inferred from archaeological excavations at those sites, which have uncovered large earthen pyramids and platforms and monumental stone carvings. The Olmecs are especially identified with 17 huge stone heads—ranging in height from 1.47 to 3.4 metres (4.82 to 11.15 feet)—with flat faces and full lips, wearing helmetlike headgear. It is generally thought that these are portraits of Olmec rulers. Other Olmec artifacts include so-called baby-faced figures and figurines. These display a rounded facial form, thick features, heavy-lidded eyes, and down-turned mouths, and they are sometimes referred to as were-jaguars. The Olmecs lived in hot, humid lowlands along the coast of the Gulf of Mexico in what is now southern Veracruz and Tabasco states in southern Mexico. The first evidence of their remarkable art style appears about 1200 BCE in San Lorenzo, their oldest known building site. This site is remarkable for its many stone monuments, including some of the colossal carved heads mentioned above. In the late 20th century a stone slab engraved with symbols that appear to have been the Olmec writing system (sometimes called epi-Olmec, or Isthmian) was discovered in the village of Cascajal, near San Lorenzo. The Cascajal stone dates to approximately 900 BCE and may be the oldest example of writing from the Americas. Other objects containing glyphs include the Tuxtla Statuette, the Chiapa de Corzo shard, the O’Boyle mask, and the La Mojarra stela (discovered 1986). The last object, which displays 465 glyphs, greatly facilitated the interpretation of the epi-Olmec language, though many questions remain. The Olmecs developed a wide trading network, and between 1100 and 800 BCE their cultural influence spread northwestward to the Valley of Mexico and southeastward to parts of Central America. The constructions and monuments of the Olmecs, as well as the sophistication and power of their art, make it clear that their society was complex and nonegalitarian.

These are actual slides of course and nothing is going to clean off of them, I was very careful I just didn't see that was on the outside. I wouldn't mention it but I think it might help date them as I think they are one of a kind slides from the University. I think these were custom ordered by the University and likely shown at an important event there. I have no idea, but these are the only three I have. Hawkes in Corning, New York, which is in Steuben County, from which the company name was derived. Hawkes was the owner of the largest cut glass firm then operating in Corning. Carder was an Englishman (born September 18, 1863) who had many years' experience designing glass for Stevens and Williams in England. Hawkes purchased the glass blanks for his cutting shop from many sources and eventually wanted to start a factory to make the blanks himself. Hawkes convinced Carder to come to Corning and manage such a factory. Carder, who had been passed over for promotion at Stevens and Williams, consented to do so.In 1918, Steuben was acquired by Corning Glass Works and became the Steuben Division. In July 2008, Steuben was sold by Corning Incorporated for an undisclosed price to Schottenstein Stores,[2] which also owns 51% of Retail Ventures, a holding company for DSW, Filene's Basement, and formerly Value City Department Stores; Value City Furniture, which changed its name to American Signature Furniture; 15% of American Eagle Outfitters, retail liquidator SB Capital Group, some 50 shopping centers, and 5 factories producing its shoes, furniture and crystal. On September 15, 2011, Schottenstein announced it was shutting down Steuben's Corning factory and Manhattan store, ending the company's 108-year history. Soon after, Corning Incorporated repurchased the Steuben brand. In early 2014, The Corning Museum of Glass announced that it would work with independent contractors to reproduce Steuben using a new, lead-free formula and their classic leaded crystal.Carder period (1903-1932) Steuben Glass Works started operation in October 1903. Carder produced blanks for Hawkes and also began producing cut glass himself. Carder's great love was colored glass and had been instrumental in the reintroduction of colored glass while at Stevens and Williams. When Steuben's success at producing blanks for Hawkes became assured, Carder began to experiment with colored glass and continued experiments that were started in England. He soon perfected Gold Aurene which was similar to iridescent art glass that was being produced by Tiffany and others. Gold Aurene was followed by a wide range of colored art glass that eventually was produced in more than 7,000 shapes and 140 colors.Steuben Glass Works continued to produce glass of all sorts until World War I. At that time war time restrictions made it impossible for Steuben to acquire the materials needed to continue manufacture. The company was subsequently sold to Corning Glass Works and became the Steuben Division. Carder continued as Division manager without any real change in the company's operation except that he now had reporting responsibilities to Corning Glass Works' management. Corning's management tried, mostly unsuccessfully, to limit the articles that Steuben made to only the most popular. Production continued until about 1932.In 1932, there was a major change in Steuben management. The nationwide depression had limited the sale of Steuben and there was a lessening of public interest in colored glass. In February 1932, John MacKay was appointed to Carder's position. Carder became Art Director for Corning Glass Works. Steuben then produced primarily colorless art glass.Steuben still produced colored art glass, but mostly to fill special orders. A few new colors were added after Carder transitioned into his new role with Corning Glass Works, but the last known sale for colored art glass by Steuben was in 1943isshelf

David Lotton Art Glass Birdhouse. 10.25" tall x 4.25" wide, unused with paperwork and take, signature shown in last pic. No cracks or chips but roughness in inner rim of factory ground base, likely always been like that.DAVID LOTTON David Lotton is a second generation American glassblower. He is the oldest son of Charles Lotton and was introduced to the world of glassblowing at a very young age. In 1970, Charles started building a furnace and began blowing pieces of glass from melted down pop bottles in a shed behind their house. David was there in this infancy and he was Charles first assistant at the age of ten. David has vivid memories of his childhood working in the shop with his father. When most children were playing childhood games he was spending time after school and on the weekends helping him at the bench. By the age of 14 he started learning how to do finishing work, polishing the bottom of the glass flat. David eventually followed in his fathers' footsteps and by the age of 15 began making paperweights. That ignited a passion to begin glass blowing.David has been creating his one of a kind vessels since 1978. His unique handcrafted works are designed with precise attention to detail. Developing his own glass formulas, David has created a complex palette of colors, giving him the ability to create his multi-layering and sculpting style. Each year David continues to study and refine the techniques he uses in creating his art.David's Clematis Reflection Series, Hollyhock Paperweight Series and Mixed Bouquets Series all reflect his floral patterns which capture his love for detail. He combines color and layering to create depth and beauty. His Organic Sculptures reflect movement and rich hues of a summer sunset. David is inspired by all nature. He has a successful ranch in the hills of Kentucky where he is inspired to evolve, change, and grow continually. He commutes back and forth to fulfill both loves.

c1890 Mt Washington decorated burmese Shot glass. 2.75" tall x 2.25" wide with no damage.MT. WASHINGTON AND PAIRPOINT GLASSMt. Washington and its successor, the Pairpoint Corporation, was one of America’s longest-running luxury glass companies (1837-1957), one that rivaled its better known contemporaries, Tiffany and Steuben. It constantly reinvented and re-invigorated its business through creativity in texture, decoration, pattern, and color - developing a variety of styles and decorating techniques which were so technically complex that few are even practiced today. The Mt. Washington Glass Company was founded in South Boston in 1837, and moved to New Bedford, Massachusetts, in 1870. In 1880, Thomas J. Pairpoint, an English silversmith, was hired to run the Pairpoint Manufacturing Company, another company in New Bedford which Mt. Washington’s owners established to produce ornate silver-plated mounts for Mt. Washington glass. In 1894, the Pairpoint Manufacturing Company absorbed Mt. Washington, and the company was renamed the Pairpoint Corporation in 1900, which remained the company’s name until it went out of business in 1938. It was revived briefly as the Gundersen-Pairpoint Glass Company but closed permanently in 1957. The company’s most successful years were from 1880 (in the height of the opulent Gilded Age) to 1930 (the end of the exuberant Roaring Twenties).MT. WASHINGTON ART GLASS AND CUT GLASSEnglishman Frederick Shirley was hired in 1872 to run Mt. Washington’s chandelier department, and two years later was put in charge of the entire company. Shirley was entrepreneurial and litigious, quick to adopt new designs and quick to complain if he thought any other firm was copying his wares. By the time he resigned in 1891, he had amassed a total of 27 patents and five design patents for various types of glass, most of which were quite successful. In 1885, Shirley introduced Burmese glass, a translucent glass that shaded from yellow to pink, which was highly decorated in the elegant and sophisticated style characteristic of the day. It became an immediate success on the Art Glass market. Shirley was a good businessman and took advantage of the dawning age of advertising to promote Burmese glass extensively.Mt. Washington’s large decorating shop specialized in enameling. The decorators who worked on Burmese glass also applied their skills to a variety of other decorated glasses with exotic names like Royal Flemish, Crown Milano, Colonial, and Pearl Satin Ware. By 1890, the company was advertising itself as “Headquarters in America for Art Glass Wares.” toothpickdrawer

This created a yellow opaque glass which on reheating turned to a salmon color shading into the yellow. Further reheating turned the salmon color back to yellow as shown on the scalloped base of this figurine. The uranium in the glass causes the vase to fluoresce brightly when exposed to black light.
