  • 1930's Ronson Art Metal Works English Bulldog Table Lighter

1930's Ronson Art Metal Works English Bulldog Table Lighter

    1 in stock

1930's Ronson Art Metal Works English Bulldog Table Lighter. 4.5" tall x 5.25" long. rare and unusual.Along with the Touch Tip, the Striker lighters are probably the most desirable Ronson Lighters for collectors. It is evident the craftsmanship that the Art Metal Works put into these well made lighters. To use striker lighters, one pulls out the wand, which is resting in lighter fluid, from the top of the dog’s head. Then sliding the wand down the flint on the dog’s snout will cause a spark and ignite the tip of the wand. Ronson offered a variety of animal striker lighters. Some of the other animals include an elephant, a very Art Deco pelican and a bear. The Ronson lighter company started as The Art Metal Works in 1897 and was incorporated on July 20, 1898, by Max Hecht, Louis Vincent Aronson and Leopold Herzig, in Newark, New Jersey.Louis V. Aronson was a huge creative driving force for the company; and, with a few business adjustments, including the addition of Alexander Harris (1910-11)[4][5] as Business Manager, the company soon became World Famous. All accounts state that Louis Aronson was a gifted man, who at 16 years old set up a money-making shop in his parents' home - before receiving a U.S. patent for a commercially valuable metal-plating process he developed when he was 24 years old, and he sold half the rights while retaining the Right to Use. "His experiments, which he has been conducting since his early youth, resulted in 1893 in the discovery of a process for electrically producing tinplate. Much money was expended upon improving the process... and has been of great practical value to the whole industry.[7] Retaining its rights, he sold half the patent rights, and later used part of the proceeds to open the Art Metal Works in Newark, N.J.[8] Soon the company was producing a variety of high-quality Lamps, Book ends, Art Statues and other decorative items, prized today for their detail in the collector marketplace.tw154

  • 1930's University of Texas 50 year Anniversary glass Magic Lantern Slides - Estate Fresh Austin

1930's University of Texas 50 year Anniversary glass Magic Lantern Slides

    1 in stock

1933 University of Texas 50 year Anniversary Magic Lantern Slides George Littlefield Brackenridge Hall. Ok, the newest these can be is the thirties, they may be older. I'm assuming they are the same age. The one that just say's University had some writing on the outside that I didn't realize was on the outside when I cleaned them. I know I remember the word fifty. These are actual slides of course and nothing is going to clean off of them, I was very careful I just didn't see that was on the outside. I wouldn't mention it but I think it might help date them as I think they are one of a kind slides from the University. I think these were custom ordered by the University and likely shown at an important event there. I have no idea, but these are the only three I have. The one with the writing that came off has a crack in the corner, no other cracks or chips on the others. 4" x 3.5".  They are backlit in the pictures.   isshelf

  • 1930's Yale Town Padlock From Mount Royal Hotel Baltimore MD with Room key and T - Estate Fresh Austin

1930's Yale Town Padlock From Mount Royal Hotel Baltimore MD with Room key and T

    1 in stock

1930's Yale Town Padlock From Mount Royal Hotel Baltimore MD with Room key and Tag. This is a cool set I'm certain it's been together since it's beginning. The lock works with the key inside it. This was likely Hotel property as. The Mount Royal Hotel and Apartments were designed in 1899 by the well-respected Baltimore architect, Edward H. Glidden. The Neo-Italian Renaissance style buildings were constructed in early 1900; the 103 East Mount Royal Avenue building served as an upscale hotel and the 101 East Mount Royal Avenue building contained all upscale apartments. Centered in the rich artistic and cultural life concentrated in the then city’s center, Mount Vernon, Baltimore, The Mount Royal Hotel and Apartments were a very desirable place to visit as a hotel guest, or to live in as a resident of the apartments. Once the Pennsylvania Train Station was completed in 1911, The Mount Royal’s appeal only increased, as the property’s location attracted daily commuters to and from Washington, DC. Even in 1911, the train ride from Penn Station to Union Station was just 40 minutes. b12

1933 Boy Scout Silver Beaver Award With Certificate Frank Griffin Saginaw Michig

    1 in stock

1933 Boy Scout Silver Beaver Award With Certificate Frank Griffin Saginaw<br>Michigan. Exremely rare identified example with full sized 11" x 13 5/8"<br>certificate. The medal itself is solid sterling marked so weighing about 48<br>grams. This was awarded 2 years after the award was created so it is extremely<br>rare to find one this early especially named with the certificate.<br><br>I have a fairly large lot of Frank Griffin‘s Scouting items going back to the<br>20‘s. This listing is for this medal and certificate which I know to be<br>extremely important, I‘m still trying to decide how to do the rest of the lot as<br>I know it might be irresponsible to split it up. It ranges from the 20‘s to the<br>60‘s with photographs from the first quarter of the 20th century, scoutmaster<br>paperwork from the 20‘s and 30‘s, merit badges with paperwork, etc.<br><br>ABOUT THE AWARD<br><br>The Silver Beaver Award is the council-level distinguished service award of the<br>Boy Scouts of America. Upon nomination by their local Scout council and with the<br>approval of the National Court of Honor, recipients of this award are registered<br>adult leaders who have made an impact on the lives of youth through service<br>given to the council.[1] The Silver Beaver is an award given to those who<br>implement the Scouting program and perform community service through hard work,<br>self-sacrifice, dedication, and many years of service. It is given to those who<br>do not seek it.<br><br>Award<br>The medal consists of a silver beaver pendant suspended from a blue and white<br>ribbon worn around the neck. Recipients may wear the corresponding square knot,<br>with a white strand over a blue strand, on the BSA uniform. There is also a<br>lapel pin authorized and available for civilian wear.<br><br>Using the United States Military as the model, silver awards are the highest<br>awards in the BSA.<br><br>History<br>The Silver Beaver was introduced in 1931 as a pin-on medal, but due to the heavy<br>weight of the medallion it was switched over to a neck ribbon in mid-1932. A<br>blue-white-blue ribbon bar was introduced in 1934 for informal uniform wear. In<br>1946, ribbon bars were replaced by the current knot insignia.<br><br>The Silver Beaver was initially awarded only to men. The Silver Fawn Award, an<br>equivalent for women, was awarded starting in 1971. It used the same knot<br>insignia, but on a blue background, as women were mostly involved in Cub<br>Scouting during this period. The Silver Fawn was discontinued and the Silver<br>Beaver began to be awarded to women in 1974. A total of 2,455 Silver Fawns were<br>awarded to outstanding women for support of Cub Scouting before the award was<br>discontinued in 1974.<br><br>As this is a council BSA award, it is conceivably possible for a person to<br>receive this award multiple times from different councils. It is believed that<br>12-16 people are double-recipients of the Silver Beaver in this manner. There is<br>no record of a triple-recipient.<br>b3

1935 Ft Worth Texas Folk Art Order of the Eastern Star LFATA OES Campaign Miniat

    1 in stock

1935 Ft Worth Texas Folk Art Order of the Eastern Star LFATA OES Campaign<br>Miniature chair pin cushion. In many ways this is one of the coolest items I've<br>ever had. It appears to be a hand carved campaign item from depression era Ft<br>worth Texas. I believe Thelma Smith was campaigning for the Position of Electa<br>in the Ft Worth chapter 820 of the Order of the Eastern star. Not sure if she<br>won, if she did maybe this was a presentation item. Also interestingly 1936 was<br>Texas centennial so that's cool also. Stable cracks in wood as shown. 6.75" tall<br>x 3 1/8" wide.<br><br>The Order of the Eastern Star (or Eastern Star, or OES), is the world’s largest<br>fraternal organization that can be joined by both men and women. It is a member<br>of the Masonic family, but joining does not make a member a mason. It’s more of<br>an axillary group, that supports masonic lodges, masonic youth organizations, as<br>well as their own agenda. Like all Masonic organizations, they support<br>membership when in need, both financially and emotionally. They also provide a<br>framework for introspective thought and philosophical discussion on ethical and<br>spiritual topics.<br>isshelf

    4 in stock

Texas Centennial Ice Cream Bowl Set Footed Sherberts set of 4 with multiple sets<br>available. These were made in 1936 I believe by Imperial Glass company to mark<br>the Texas centennial. They have no cracks, chips, or dings, no unacceptable or<br>detectable wear. The measure 4" wide x 3.5" tall. They are estate fresh,<br>guaranteed authentic. There are no reproductions other than the ones that were<br>reissued in 1946 which clearly say 1946 Edition on them and while still scarce<br>are much easier to come by than these that were actually from the 1936 Texas<br>centennial celebration and likely had ice cream served in them at that<br>celebration. I am selling 4 for one price with multiple lots of 4 available as<br>they had a large set that had been in the family since 1936.
