1329 Gram Labradorite Specimen. 7 3/8" x 3.5" x 2", large polished specimen. There are few gemstones that display the 'play-of-color' phenomenon better than Labradorite, reds, blues, purples, yellows and more dance before your eyes as it turns in your hand but there is much more to discover about this rare beauty. The Schiller effect, labradorescence, light interference, lattice distortions are some of the scientific explanations for flashes of color in Labradorite gemstones which we can go into later but perhaps the Inuit people of Labrador in Canada explain it best by saying that the Northern Lights or Aurora Borealis were trapped within Labradorite rocks. I think it's really old, 19th to early 20th century.<br>Nice estate fresh ceremonial mask covered in hide with some wear as shown.<br>15"high, 10"wide, 12.5"deep, crack in forehead, a few of the horns are a little<br>loose.<br><br>The Bete and Gere people reside in Ivore' Coast, just south of the Guro. ,<br>omnipresent in Bete life, aims to maintain a harmonious relationship between<br>nature and the ancestors, who are responsible for the welfare of the tribe.<br>Elaborate masquerades and ceremonies are performed by the men of the tribe who<br>belong to dance societies.According to the book, THE TRIBAL ARTS OF AFRICA<br>byBacquart: "Bete carvers are renowned for one particular type of face mask<br>which has exaggerated features- a large protruding mouth,an elongated nose,with<br>nostrils sometimes extending to each side of the face, and globular eyes set<br>beneath a high domed forehead carved with a medium ridge. Historically, this<br>type of mask was worn to prepare men for war; nowadays,it is worn for a variety<br>of ceremonies, including entertainment dances." These masks were influenced by<br>the tradition of their western neighbors, the "We". The Bete grew only what was<br>needed for a subsistence economy and placed more importance on the hunt. To<br>render the hostile forces of the forest material, they sculpted a type of mask<br>that would provoke terror: the "gre", with its grimacing face, distorted<br>features facial protuberances, bulging forehead. The Bete live in the<br>southwestern part of the country, between the Akan ethnic groups to the east and<br>the Guro tribe to the north. They number about 600,000 and are an agricultural<br>group. Patrilinear, the Bete live – under the ancestors’ authority – in small<br>“headless” villages. Historically they were hunters, but nowadays they also<br>farm. They grow what is needed for a subsistence economy. Amazing set here probably somewhat assembled and larger than what actually came in the box originally as there are different scales, It's estate fresh and this is how I got it. c1750's Battersea box Frog and Deer. Two English 18th century boxes one in the form of a frog, the other a deer. I can't be 100% sure it was made at the Battersea factory, it could be a Bilston box from 20-30 years later. It's 18th century and guaranteed so, both rare boxes. The frog is 1.5" tall x 1.5" wide with some crazing inside and out mainly on the base and bottom of the frog, one chip to the enamel shown in last two pics. The deer 2.25" wide x 1 3/8" tall crazing on top interior and inside and outside of bottom, , small restoration just below the figure on the base and on opposing side of interior. Selling both boxes, if you are interested in only one please have an offer in mind. Battersea boxes developed in the mid 18th century as tiny decorative containers covered with enamel or porcelain and decorated with pleasing designs. Originally the boxes were made of copper covered with white enamel, decorated with classical or scenes or portraits. They evolved over time to become more sentimental. The Battersea box got its name from a firm under the tutelage of Sir Stephen Theodore Janssen, Once Lord Mayor of London at York House in Battersea. The boxes were decorated by transfer printing, which took an impression from an engraved plate painted with enamel and printed on to the box which was then hand painted and fired. The firm existed only from 1753 to 1756 however other firms producing similar boxes, especially those in the village of Bilston, took up this technique. Battersea became the collective name for all such boxes. With advancements in the pottery industry due to the Industrial Revolution, Battersea boxes gradually fell from favour. Allowing small boxes to be produced at less cost than the enameled competitors made Battersea boxes decline significantly by the mid 19th century. They became popular again in the second half of the 20th century with the development of commemorative boxes produced for such well known firms as Tiffany & Co. tw239

Texas Centennial Ice Cream Bowl Set Footed Sherberts set of 4 with multiple sets<br>available. These were made in 1936 I believe by Imperial Glass company to mark<br>the Texas centennial. They have no cracks, chips, or dings, no unacceptable or<br>detectable wear. The measure 4" wide x 3.5" tall. They are estate fresh,<br>guaranteed authentic. There are no reproductions other than the ones that were<br>reissued in 1946 which clearly say 1946 Edition on them and while still scarce<br>are much easier to come by than these that were actually from the 1936 Texas<br>centennial celebration and likely had ice cream served in them at that<br>celebration. c1949 Sterling Napoleon Hood Ornament by Garrard & Co Ltd. So I'm thinking this came off a Very expensive European car made in 1949 but I'm not 100% sure as I don't know the car, if I'm correct it would have been a limited production type of deal. I can find no other examples of this figure . The threading and another small prong I would assume to lock it in place extend slightly beyond it's base so it would need to be displayed on a base with a slight recess or the bolt could be ground down but if it is what I think it is and it's really that rare, maybe not such a good idea. 3 7/8" tall 167.8 grams. Regardless of what it is it is a high quality Sterling silver Napoleon figure that is extremely rare made by an important Silvermith that has been in business since the early 18th century. b3

Vintage Peruvian Folk Art Traditional Mate Burilado Carved Gourd 3.5" wide x 2.5" tall, extremely well detailed, telling a story as shown. This is a nice old one circa mid 20th century with a fantastic patina and no issues. People from the valley at the basin of the Mantaro River, who are known as huancas, produce carved gourds, masks, jewelry, embroidery, ceramics and textiles for the national and international markets. In the 1930s, after the introduction of highways and railroads brought low-cost industrial products into the market, many of these crafts evolved from functional to decorative, replacing the use of the traditional vessels. On the gourds you can see stories ranging from cultural events—celebrations, folklore, myths and tragedies—to displays of everyday life. However, carved gourds incorporate more than just visual storytelling as the textural qualities of the gourd offer a new perspective to understanding the story itself. The gourds are brought to Cochas from traveling merchants, and after a gourd is skinned, cleaned and dried, artists can begin carving to create a three-dimensional design. Some artisans even use a burning technique, called quemado, to incorporate varying shades of brown to the art. Hand Forged Tortilla Pan with Thick Hammered copper skillet. Personally found by me in an old Barn on a Ranch in Wimberley Texas. I have no way of knowing for sure how old it is but it's obviously old and obviously handmade completely 100% hand hammered copper and hand forged handle. It's functional and ready to use. 20.5" total length with 8 5/8" skillet section 12" handle. This is way thicker and heavier than any copper cookware I have seen. Likely intended for and used over open fire at a camp. I don't know if it's from 1800 or 1960 but a similar pot today would cost a small fortune and not be as well made. All hand painted 4.75" wide saucers, 2.25" tall and wide cups. One cup matches on one side but not the other, it was made by the same company but looks to have been decorated by another. Paul Jean Marie Sain (1853-1908) 1901 French Portrait of Chincholle. Really great original oil on Canvas. The man in the portrait resembles a French author named Charles Chincholle who died of a stroke in 1902. Hopefully I'll have more info at a later date. 16" x 19" framed, 11" x 14" canvas. No restorations, clean frame, clean painting other than two small scuffs one to the left of the top of his head, another just above it to the right of the signature. Below are the Biographies of both the artist and Charles Chincholle. One thing they have in common is They were both at one point named knights of the Legion of Honor. Charles Chincholle was appointed the year this painted was done, a year before his death. I've found a few portraits of him online and it looks like him to me. Jean-Paul Marie Saïn (5 December 1853, Avignon - 6 March 1908, Avignon) was a French painter, known primarily for landscapes and portraits. Paul Jean Marie Sain studied under noted Academic painters Jean Leon Gerome and Charles Michel Guilbert d'Anelle. Sain made his debut at the Paris Salon in 1879. His paintings of marine scenes and lush romantic landscapes were well received and he was awarded honorable mention in 1883, a third place medal in 1886, a bronze medal in 1889 and in 1900 at the Paris Exposition Universelle. He was made a Knight of the Legion of Honor in 1895. His works are in the collection of the Musee du Louvre, Paris, Musee du Luxembourg, Paris, Musee de Perpignan and the Alencon Fine Art Museum. Charles Henri Hippolyte Chincholle , born on July 16, 1843 in Amiens 1 and died onAugust 26, 1902in Paris , is a French journalist and writer . He is considered to be the first major French reporter. Biography Son of Barthélémy Hyppolite Chincholle and Pélagie Victoire Aimée Quequet, Charles Chincholle was declared by his father under the first names of Henri Charles Hippolyte 4 , 5 . He began studying medicine, which he left quite quickly. Last secretary of Alexandre Dumas from 1865 to 1870 6 , Chincholle wrote in the newspapers founded by the latter such as Le Mousquetaire or Le D'Artagnan , as well as the Parlement , la Liberté , Paris-Journal , before entering, in 1872, at Villemessant 7 au Figaro where he became one of the main reporters, following all the important public events and signing some of his articles under the pseudonym of Henri Hamoise 8 or Georges Rip 7 . He thus follows the Boulangist campaignand let himself be seduced for a time by the personality of General Boulanger , of whom he became the unofficial memorialist. However, when the latter was installed in Jersey, Chincholle wanted to see him and was not received. Therefore, it burned down what he loved, and we could read, under his signature, the phrase: "I leave the Boulangism as it leaves a bad love 9 . " Founder of several newspapers such as Le Lucifer , which only saw a few issues 10 and L'Estampe, artistic journal (1884-?) 11 , being a great fan of engravings, he was also president of the Cercle de l'escrime. We owe him numerous interviews with celebrities such as Paul Verlaine and Auguste Rodin . In addition to his countless reportage and current affairs articles and despite his active life and his almost daily collaboration with Le Figaro , Chincholle has written a dozen novels, including La Juive du Château-Trompette published under the name of Ponson du Terrail , serialized in the Little Bordelais, in 1871 12 , eight plays, five or six volumes of contemporary history or biography, and a number of short stories, fantasies and varieties 7 . In 1870, he had a very cheerful little act performed at the Folies-Dramatiques , Uncle Margottin , which had more than three hundred performances. He then praised the theater's new order to give a drama of it, the husband of Joan , black drama that ended with the of the wife and the lover 10 . One fine day, passers-by stopped, bewildered, in front of his poster which read "Free entry for adulterous women." »The story does not say if there were many of them at the control.9 . Entered the Société des gens de lettres in 1885, he made eleven years on the Committee, and has successively served as secretary, Quaestor and Vice President 7 . He had also succeeded Aurélien Scholl as president of the Cercle de l'Escrime et des Arts 13 . In 1901, he was appointed knight of the Legion of Honor 14 . He succumbed to a stroke the following year 15 . He is buried in the cemetery of Cergy 7 : 175 .

Dresden decorated on a Rosenthal blank with near mint gold and no cracks, chips, or restorations. 11 3/8" x 7.75" The term "Dresden porcelain" refers more to an artistic movement than a particular line of figurines or dinnerware. Several decorating studios emerged in this Saxony capital in response to the rise of "Romanticism" during the 19th century. Dresden was an important center of this artistic, cultural and intellectual movement, which attracted painters, sculptors, poets, philosophers and porcelain decorators alike. In 1883, in response to the exciting developments happening all around them, four prominent ceramic decorators registered the famous blue crown Dresden mark, and the widely popular "Dresden style" was born. Graziella Jacoby (American/Czech, 1885-1980) pencil drawing of a gentleman. 14" x 20" sight 19" x 25" framed. No issues with drawing, clean frame and matting. Born in Illinois on August 12, 1885, Jacoby worked in Chicago during 1908-27. While there, she studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and continued with Mucha in Czechoslovakia and with Bellows in New York City. Upon moving to southern California in 1928, she settled in Pasadena and became active in the local art scene. During the 1940s she gave art lessons to servicement at Pasadena's Hospitality House.

Louis-Ernest Barrias (French, 1841 - 1905) Ferdinand Barbedienne (1810-1892) Diminutive Bronze footed vase with Child hanging from vines. A Barrias work cast by Barbedienne. A fantastic piece from the last quarter of the 19th century that everyone has room for. 4.25" tall x 4" handle to handle, solid bronze, extremely heavy for it's size, great patina. Louis-Ernest Barrias (13 April 1841 – 4 February 1905) was a French sculptor of the Beaux-Arts school. In 1865 Barrias won the Prix de Rome for study at the French Academy in Rome. Barrias was involved in the decoration of the Paris Opéra and the Hôtel de la Païva in the Champs-Élysées. His work was mostly in marble, in a Romantic realist style indebted to Jean-Baptiste Carpeaux. He was born in Paris into a family of artists. His father was a porcelain-painter, and his older brother Félix-Joseph Barrias a well-known painter. Louis-Ernest also started out as a painter, studying under Léon Cogniet, but later took up sculpture with Pierre-Jules Cavelier as teacher. In 1858 he was admitted to the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris, where his teacher was François Jouffroy. In 1865 Barrias won the Prix de Rome for study at the French Academy in Rome. Barrias was involved in the decoration of the Paris Opéra and the Hôtel de la Païva in the Champs-Élysées. His work was mostly in marble, in a Romantic realist style indebted to Jean-Baptiste Carpeaux. In 1878 he was made a knight of the Legion of Honour, an officer in 1881, and a commander in 1900. Barrias replaced Dumont at the Institut de France in 1884 then succeeded Cavelier as professor at the École des Beaux-Arts. In 1900-03 he served on the Council for the National Museums. Among his students were Josep Clarà, Charles Despiau, Henri Bouchard, Fernand Hamar, and Victor Ségoffin. Ferdinand Barbedienne (1810-1892) was the inspiration and driving force behind one of the most important French art foundries. He pioneered the use of mounts and, more commonly, bronze sculpture including figures and animals. Barbedienne produced catalogues of bronze reproductions of Greek and Roman classical sculpture and experimented with champlève and cloisonné enamels during the third quarter of the century. Barbedienne exhibited several pieces of furniture at the 1855 Paris Exhibition including an ormolu mounted oak dressing table and an ormolu mounted ebony veneered bookcase. Both pieces were executed in his favoured Renaissance revival style for furniture. Furniture with mounts signed by Barbedienne is extremely rare. The Barbedienne foundry handled the casting of numerous national monuments and architectural schemes. Ferdinand Barbedienne himself also took an active part in the promotion of contemporary sculpture and became one of the founders for Davis d'Angers' medallions as well as much of Rude's sculpture. His signature varied from hand written capitals to stamp in capitals, usually F. Barbedienne, Fondeur or BARBEDIENNE PARIS. In 1839 Barbedienne collaborated with the inventor Achille Collas who had succeeded in enlarging and reducing works of art to arbitrary sizes by a simple mathematical calculation, allowing the accurate reduction of classical and contemporary marbles for the purpose of reproduction in bronze. In 1850 Barbedienne was commissioned to furnish the Paris town hall for which he was awarded with the 'medaille d' honneur' at the Paris Exposition Universelle in 1855. 1933 University of Texas 50 year Anniversary Magic Lantern Slides George Littlefield Brackenridge Hall. Ok, the newest these can be is the thirties, they may be older. I'm assuming they are the same age. The one that just say's University had some writing on the outside that I didn't realize was on the outside when I cleaned them. I know I remember the word fifty. These are actual slides of course and nothing is going to clean off of them, I was very careful I just didn't see that was on the outside. I wouldn't mention it but I think it might help date them as I think they are one of a kind slides from the University. I think these were custom ordered by the University and likely shown at an important event there. I have no idea, but these are the only three I have. The one with the writing that came off has a crack in the corner, no other cracks or chips on the others. 4" x 3.5".  They are backlit in the pictures.   isshelf

c1890 Guilloche Enamel Gilt 900 Silver Calling card case. I believe this is Austrian, the quality is the best from the construction of the heavy for it's size box to the painting on the front enamel plaque to the the guilloche sides and reverse, all great. Some damage as shown to the Guilloche on sides, front and back are good with no scratches. 154.2 grams 2.25" x 3.5. Entirely hand painted portrait with thick gold interior, the box only opens just under 90 degrees as shown, that's how it was manufactured 130 or so years ago. tw208

Case has some expected wear, Interior chip to bottom right of glass on front, exterior chip in same place on back. Insignificant issues in my opinon. It's running right now and keeping good time. When you get it, if you set it turning the hands clockwise it should start ticking if you wound it first and don't overwind it of course. 4.25" tall without handle or case.
