sz6.25 Wolf Robe Hunt Acoma silver tufa cast band ring with turquoise

    1 in stock

sz6.25 Wolf Robe Hunt Acoma silver ring with turquoise.Wayne Wolf Robe Hunt, a full-blood Acoma Indian (1905-1977). Born on the Acoma Reservation, Wolf Robe was the son of Chief Day Break (Edward Proctor Hunt), Chief of the Delight Makers -- a man instrumental in the improvement of relations between the Acomas and whites. His mother, Morning Star, whose own father was Governor of Acoma seven times, was a potter and weaver. Wolf Robe learned silver-smithing from his older brother on the reservation. Wolf Robe achieved recovnition and fame for his jewelry and art work, winning the prestigious Philbrook Art Center's Grand Award in 1967. In addition, he was a businessman, with his own arts and crafts store in Tulsa, a lecturer, international traveller, author, and translator for the Bureau of American Ethnology. He assited L. A. White in his extensive studies of the Acoma Indians and made recordings for the National Anthropological Archives. Wolf Robe was particularly interested in the preservation of tribal customs, language and culture, and devoted his own time to this and the encouragement of others in similar efforts. Of his work at BAE he said, "My work there as an interpreter is the highlight of my efforts in trying to preseve all of the rich and wholesome lore of my people."* Not only was the preservation of the 'old ways' important to Wolf Robe, but also the representation and dissemination of his culture to whites, in an effort to promote their understanding and appreciation. He travelled all over Europe and to Australia for the Departments of Agriculture and Commerce, representing the American Indian to an appreciative audience. All precious metals are tested and guaranteed. A Native American jewelry piece referred to as "silver" or "ingot" is guaranteed to be at least 90% silver. I rarely use the word "sterling" when referring to older Native American silver or really any older silver jewelry as silver contents vary and "sterling" is 92.5% silver. No older jewelry is going to be exactly 92.5% silver, some a little over, some a little under. It wasn't an exact thing with handmade jewelry. I've seen thousands of pieces xrf'd to prove this. • sz8.5 Benny Armijo (1937-2022) Navajo silver modernist corn row ring - Estate Fresh Austin

sz8.5 Benny Armijo (1937-2022) Navajo silver modernist corn row ring

    1 in stock

sz8.5 Benny Armijo (1937-2022) Navajo silver modernist corn row ring. No significant issues, measurements in pics. The marks on the rim are part of the casting, it was made to look "weathered". Benny Armijo (1937-2022).   Benny was a renowned master Navajo silversmith who specialized in this complex inlay and "corn row" type cobblestone inlay using high quality stones.  His jewelry was featured on the Oprah Winfrey show and was collected by many high-profile artists from James Taylor, Charlie Daniels, to Hank Williams Jr. His pieces can be seen on many album covers of top music groups and are highly collectable today. His incredible sense of humor was as well-known as his jewelry. He was simply the most generous man that one could ever imagine, always helping complete strangers he encountered along the way. He was active from the early 70's until the late 20th century..   His older mark from the 1970's looks like a tadpole and has been misattributed to "Edward Zuni", but I'm 100% sure this is Benny Armijo's work and hallmark, it's been confirmed by his living relatives.   Benny was born in Santa Fe, New Mexico Benito M Armijo Jr  The older stamp he first used was to represent the letter C and letter M which stood for Chief Marcos. Many years later maybe around 1989 he stamped his jewelry with Benny Armijo. He lived in California for many years and returned to New Mexico and passed away January 2022. He was known for his stone inlay on what he called a Hopi wedding band in which all the stones were inlaid inside the ring or bracelet. Giving the thought that the beauty between the couple is in the eye of the beholder and the couple would choose the different color of stones and their meanings to be inlaid on their wedding bands. sz7.5 Leo Yazzie Navajo Black Jade/coral inlay sterling silver ring

    1 in stock

sz7.5 Leo Yazzie Black Jade and coral channel inlay sterling ring. Overall good condition with minor wear.LEO YAZZIE Leo Yazzie has been designing and creating fine jewelry for more than 30 years. Born and raised at Black Mesa on the Navajo Reservation in northeastern Arizona, the influence of the land and his culture is a part of each piece of his contemporary and sophisticated jewelry.Leo uses both gold and silver to create jewelry with a unique combination of traditional and contemporary designs. “The inspiration for many of my designs came from watching my grandmother, mother and other women in the family weaving rugs. They told me their designs came from Spider. Now, I make designs inspired by the patterns they wove.”Leo’s patterns vary, from a delicate cutout border with intricate detail to bold geometrics. It might be a gold panel with a geometric motif overlaid on a silver pendant; a cut-out stepped pattern encircling a stone; or a lightning shaped band on a ring. Whatever the pattern, the effect is sophisticated and elegant. The classic use of turquoise and coral is a favorite combination of Leo’s. The coral may range from pale pink to a very deep red. Leo uses turquoise of the highest quality, sometimes rare pieces from famous mines that have been closed for years. “I love working with quality stones,” says Leo. To guarantee he’d always have the best materials to work with, Leo has collected high quality stones from gem shows and traders over the years. In addition to turquoise and coral, Leo uses other semi-precious stones from around the world like sugilite, lapis, gaspeite, white opals and more. Sugilite has gained in popularity since its introduction in the 1980s. Found in the Kalahari Desert of South Africa, this stone with its deep rich purple to soft lavender color works beautifully with turquoise, or on its own. Leo enjoys pairing it with the fire in white opals.Leo’s settings are all handmade, often built up layer-by-layer. Designs are sawed out and appliquéd. Rich multi-colored side inlay will often be added to highlight a larger stone or add accent colors to the design. He uses channel inlay on some pieces, with the stones precisely cut flush with each other, so that they almost appear to be one stone. Some pieces will have a sculptural inlay, where each stone is cut and shaped, then fitted together.Leo’s avant-garde work is fitting for today’s contemporary fashions. His attention to detail and craftsmanship is evident in each piece and reflects his willingness to take the time to let a design emerge.“I enjoy what I do and I like to take my time with each piece,” says Leo. He usually works on several pieces at a time, working with one and then setting it aside to work on another, or taking one of his long walks. “I usually work for three hours each morning and then leave the pieces alone,” says Leo. His long walks are important; they reconnect him with the land and life surrounding him.The care and time that Leo takes fabricating each of his pieces has resulted in his winning enough awards and ribbons to fill two large boxes. Today, Leo has stopped entering contests. “I wanted to make room for the younger artists,” says Leo. He may have stopped competing, but he has not stopped creating. This quiet man and gifted artist continues to innovate and dazzle us with his eye for color and attention to detail. • sz6 c1974 Luis Mojica modernist silver sodalite ring - Estate Fresh Austin

sz6 c1974 Luis Mojica modernist silver sodalite ring

    1 in stock

sz6 c1974 Luis Mojica modernist silver sodalite ring, total masterpiece with no issues. Acquired with a similar bracelet by the same artist, selling the ring shown 2" long, 22.4 grams. Below is the information I recieved with it from it's original owner."Both pieces were purchased during the time that I lived in New Mexico in 1972-75 time frame. They were purchased from J. Ray Corliss (aka Rick Corliss) who owned a shop on Old Canyon Road in Santa Fe called Yazzi, Mohamed and Muldoon. Rick was quite connected to the art community at the time in Santa Fe and he was always looking for new and unusual things to sell in his store. He was quite taken with Mojica's work and told us on more than one occasion that he had visited Luis. My husband (now deceased) commissioned a bracelet from Mojica through Rick and this bracelet I am selling is the result. He had asked for a show stopper ladies ring (to me it could be either male or female) as well which is the other piece for sale. Mojica was just beginning to gain acclaim for his work but it was in no way main stream. Rick Corliss and I grew up in the same small town in CA so he was not a stranger to me and therefore I did not question him when he said he knew Luis. Rick had other pieces by the artist for sale as well during the years I lived there. That is all I can tell you about the provenance."LUIS MOJICA The artist has lived all his life in the Rio Grande valley of southern Colorado and New Mexico in the region once known as the frontier territory of the Spanish Empire in the new world and later as a state of the Republic of Mexico. The region became part of the United States in 1848. the term mestizo or “mixed blood” describing the heritage of inter-marriage between Europeans and the native peoples of the Americas is correctly applied to the artist, and is where his artistic identity began and continues. The cultural roots that underlie the artwork of Luis Mojica may not be obvious to the casual observer. Throughout his extended career as as an artist, designer, jeweler, ceramist, and painter, he has striven to transcend the limitations of provincialism and conservatism that characterize his traditional Hispanic upbringing in order to create work that is current and expressive of a larger world view. Yet, values such as respect for tradition, persistence in the face of adversity, and a belief in the importance of life long education and spiritual growth have formed the foundation of his artistic efforts as well.Over the years of his career, Mojica has become recognized as one of the most innovative and proficient jewelry artists in the Southwest. His work is distinguished by the highest standards of craftsmanship, unusual combinations of materials, and a clear sense of functional design. His inspirations include the landscape, colors and cultural icons of the American southwest which are subsequently abstracted into his jewelry designs and finished pieces. His intent to offer jewelry that is well designed and executed, which has the distinct and unique qualities that can only come from the hands of a seasoned practitioner.Mojica’s work in precious metals has been seen in museum exhibitions and collections of the Heard Museum, Phoenix, AZ, the Museum of International Folk Art, and the Museum of Spanish Colonial art in Santa Fe, NM, the Albuquerque Museum of Art and History, Albuquerque, NM and the Millicent Rogers Museum, Taos, NM. For over twelve years the artist was a participant in the annual Traditional Spanish Market held each July on the Plaza in Santa Fe, where his role as award winning exhibitor expanded to include lecturer, teacher and mentor of aspiring youth artist. He retired from Spanish Market in 2011.The artist currently maintains a home and studio in Albuquerque, NM.All precious metals are tested and guaranteed. Sz7.5 Dina Huntinghorse Native American silver and high grade turquoise ring Wichita jewelry designer Dina Huntinghorse incorporates a blend of traditional and contemporary jewelry techniques to create masterful works of wearable art. Although gold and silver work is rarely seen among the tribes of the Great Plains, Dina's life experiences introduced her to the craft, and inspired her to develop her own unique style. Raised in southwestern Oklahoma, Dina's first love was of horses, and she learned to reproduce their likeness in pencil sketches and paintings. She was later taught the traditional art of beadwork by an aunt, and became known for her beaded deerskin purses. In 1989, her interest in jewelry was piqued when her late husband, Navajo jeweler Herbert Taylor, taught her to cut beads and do inlay work. Dina began making jewelry on her own in 1996. Her work is featured in galleries throughout the southwest, and she is a regular participant at the Heard Museum Market and the Santa Fe Indian Market. Women's Size 7 Ring.

Mr. Avery believed that meaning is what makes life more beautiful<br>and this concept continues to drive how we design jewelry to this day. Carmen Beckmann sold jewelry from a shop she owned and operated out of her home in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico from the 1950’s through the 1970’s. Experts believe her jewelry was produced by multiple silversmiths and her hallmark affixed to the jewelry. Her work often draws on pre-Columbian designs presented in modernist contexts. She is known for necklaces, rings, pins, brooches, and earrings that employ silver and copper decorated with jade and other semi-precious stones. It is not entirely clear what role she played in the design of work she sold, but her mark on sterling silver jewelry indicates a collectible piece. He sought out remote villages in the state of Guerrero, 110 miles<br>from Mexico City, where in some places Nahuatl, the Aztec language, was spoken.<br>Spratling collected artifacts and contemporary indigenous crafts. Spratling made<br>a fortune manufacturing and designing silver, but his true life's work was to<br>conserve, redeem, and interpret the ancient culture of his adopted country. He<br>explained for North American audiences the paintings of Mexico's modern masters<br>and earned distinction as a learned and early collector of pre-Columbian art.<br>Spratling and his workshop gradually became a visible and culturally attractive<br>link between a steady stream of notable American visitors and the country they<br>wanted to see and experience. Spratling had the rare good fortune to witness his<br>own reputation -- as one of the most admired Americans in Mexico -- assume<br>legendary status before his death. William Spratling, His Life and Art vividly<br>reconstructs this richly diverse life whose unique aesthetic legacy is but a<br>part of its larger cultural achievement of profoundly influencing Americans'<br>attitudes toward a civilization different from their own. Most rings are shown on a a ring sizer in the pictures and the size is typically given at the beginning of the title and description. Women's Size 5 Ring.

<br><br>All precious metals are tested and guaranteed. Mr. Avery believed that meaning is what makes life more beautiful<br>and this concept continues to drive how we design jewelry to this day. In 2007,<br>53 years after he first founded the company, James Avery officially stepped down<br>as CEO and passed the reins on to his sons, Chris and Paul.<br><br>Mr. Avery’s mission was simple: to create jewelry with meaning—both for himself<br>and others. With a focus on creating straightforward designs and a core belief<br>of integrity in all things, his jewelry became more than precious metals and<br>gemstones. Guests came to him with their stories—their special moments—so he<br>could craft them into pieces they would wear with pride for a lifetime. From<br>writing letters to greeting Customers, Mr. Avery prioritized developing lasting<br>relationships with each person who connected with his designs.
